St. Billie Returns To The St. James

My point was, he doesn't do anything half-assed. He either gives it 150% effort or he doesn't do it......"phone it in" doesn't seem to exist in his world. :)

There was a Twitter discussion yesterday with @NewYorkTheater about Bono going to his first preview of Spider-Man only a few days ago. He's the composer of the music and he only went for the first time yesterday? Egads! I tweeted back to @NewYorkTheater how Bono was unlike Billie Joe and Green Day regarding their respective shows. Green Day would have never just sat back and let someone else handled their stuff. They don't phone it in, as far as I can tell, ever.

Silly Bono... he went to see American Idiot before he went to see his own dang show, lol.

Were going to the interview sunday so we'll meet him again after the matinee again.

For those of you wondering how to meet him. If your not seeing a show but happen to be in the area (or if your seeing a later show) get to the theater hours before and stand outside. 20 minutes before the show ends they put up barriers and your one of the first people there so your garenteed a front row spot.

I edited the video now I just have to upload it to youtube. Be about 5 minutes.

Edit: Here's the video!

Oh God... that must be the greatest birthday present you ever received!!! Congratulations, by the way :)

I'm just melting and crying, he's the sweetest guy on earth

You'll probably have a better chance after the show, though you might catch him going in for the matinee or for the evening show.

I bought those tickets in November, though. It was confusing to me as to why the show was being advertised as if it was added only days before.

Oh, and new epiphany: Perhaps Whatsername is unnamed because in Billie's real life, Adrienne stuck by him, so he never had a situation in which the love of his life left him, which is why she's unnamed because she didn't exist.

Or maybe its just because she's fleeting, even though the play presents her as more of a rock than the album does.

Around the time he was writing Dookie he was with a girl for a year who left him to go travelling, he's talked before about how it was a bit of a messed up time. A lot of the songs on Dookie (and Good Riddance) are about her, I assume part of Whatsername must've come from her. I've always thought the Whatsername character is drawn from the different experiences he's had with women/relationships in his life rather than just one person.

Wife and I are taking the train up from DC on Sunday, back on Monday. If you take the express ("Acela") the trip takes less than 3 hours each way. We're squeezing in two visits with family around the show and the talk on Sunday.

Just put a gun to my head now and it'll be all better, right? :whistle

Alright now that I'm all settled in I can now write my review.

We got up around 8am, got breakfast and headed for the train station. We got into the city just about 12. We walked to the theater where we waited about a half hour to see Billie arrive. We got to see him arrive and I would have gotten a pic with him but the other guy that was there did. I tried anyway but he just walked in.

We then got lunch and just sat for a while then went back to the theater around 2 and just stood outside. About 20 minutes before the show ended they put up the barriers and we took our spots. Everyone starts coming out of the show and it starts filling up. I don't think it was to bad though. I looked at the ceiling and it didn't look like to many people. Then the cast starts coming out. We met Chase and he wished me a happy birthday on camera! I also got a pic with him. Also met Brian and got a pic with him too. I got Stark to say happy birthday on camera but I didn't realize I wasn't recording! And the last one to come out was Rebecca. Also got her to say happy birthday on camera! Then this older lady who didn't even know who Billie Joe was at first asked us and then she went to about the 3rd or 4th row to get an autograph. When Billie came out everyone screamed and the lady started pushing the girl in front of her into my friend! And kept shouting "Billie, Billie, Billie Joe" I wanted to turn around and say "chill let him sign the other side first then he will come over here!" then he came over here and the lady is still "Billie Joe, Billie Joe" Then finally I think she got the autograph and she shut up and he came over to me and I said "can you say happy birthday Robin?" and he leans over and says "happy bir... birthday to who?" So I said "Robin" and he smiles and looks directly into my camera and says "hey happy birthday Robin" Made my life complete! I couldn't believe it.

After that we went and sat down for a little while to unwind and calm down before getting dinner. After dinner we got in line to see the show. OMG I almost had a heart attack when I saw how close we were. Pretty much on the stage! During American Idiot one of the cast members slides out all the way to the end and almost kicked me in the face. I think he realized it too and when he got up he sang right in my face!. It was so cool seeing it front row. During Are We The Waiting I started getting a little nervous because Billie was coming out next. You could hear him scream from back stage. "Here we go! Hey! Hey!" and then he comes out :woot: . The only bad thing was during homecoming Johnny blocked my view of Billie taking his shirt off so I wasn't able to see him at all. I saw him fall back slightly but that was it but I'm not complaining.

After Good Riddance Billie was standing 2 seats away from me and Michael was standing in front of me so I held up the bear and Michael thought it was for him so I pointed to Billie and Billie saw me and leaned down and took it. He looked at it like what the fuck and I showed him the back and then he realized and smiled and walked offstage.

It was such a good day. I can't wait to go back on sunday. When I meet him again I'm going to ask him what he thought of the bear.

Aww that sounds like such a great day Robin! I'm so happy you had such an awesome birthday :D

The only thing I feel bad about (and actually I have for a while) is the lack of love that the cast gets when Billie's around. So when you just explained how you said no to Michael and indicated that the bear was for Beej, I can't help but imagine the feeling of rejection he must've felt

It must've been great to sit that close to the stage, watching the musical. And awesome Billie said happy birthday! So nice.

billie got there at 12:30 yesterday? i was there at 12:30 and did not see him walk in

or did he sneak in during the lotto drawing? which door did he walk in ?

and yeah the only disadvantage of front row yesterday was some of the other cast members blocking billie at times

and poor michael thought the bear was for him

but yeah great story really cool that bilie said happy birthday to you

and yeah i felt bad for chase yesterday he was the guy by me for the american idiot 'sing in your face part" he probaly wanted some pretty girl to sing to and he got me

and christina totally ignored me at the end for her guitar pick for some reason she gave it to the girl in back of me

Yeah, especially as she was apparently a proper hardcore vegetarian/feminist/idealistic/punk type of person. I guess everything on the album comes from a mixture of different experiences he's had.

Yeah exactly. When people talk about the correlation between Whatsername and Adrienne, it just doesn't make as much sense to me as it being related to that other relationship he had. Especially since she left him. You're right, though, I'm sure he drew from a number of places regarding the character.

We are taking the train too but we get a nice 10hour ride :whistle Wish we could get there faster but my daughter is excited to take the train so that makes it a little better...oh and I feel for you with the family thing...I was living with family recently after my very unpleasant divorce and I thought I was going to DIE!!!

Yeah Billie walked in almost right after lotto. He went through the glass door. I kind of felt bad for Michael because he thought the bear was for him and he was going to give me his guitar pick but I was so focused on Billie that he gave it to my friend instead. I'm glad he gave it to her though. I wanted her to have it. This was her first time seeing the show so that was a treat for her.

I feel your pain. Last time St. Billie happened, I had to take the bus up from DC in the morning and back at night. I did have the "only in the city for five hours!" excuse to dodge the family though. It was nuts. I'm glad this trip is at least for a little over two days. Plus, then in February I've got a two week internship in NYC and I can actually settle into the city a bit. Plus, hopefully I'll be able to see a few of Billie's shows and then one or two with Chase if he goes on for St. Jimmy.

On the radio yesterday they were talking about AI and then said that U2 saw it and then decided to do their own musical because it looked fun

They were joking... I think. They also complemented AI a lot :D

I just had a thought: I wonder if he's living in a hotel for these two months, or if he rented a place out.

Nah hes probably living in the sewers and subways.

He probably dropped it in his sewer home after the show
