Annie, get your gun
Glad to know some very lucky people of GDC went to the 1st show (and some others are going to) To read your experiences guys, honestly, makes me sad for not be able to go there, being so far away. But then at the same time is heartwarming, that he's doing the role of St Jimmy with so much love and passion, letting his fans to enjoy his wonderful talent, having an awesome time hearing some of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. The best way to start 2011.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love
It was spectacular! There are no words, so I apologise if this is incoherent. The front row is amazing, but yes, lots of spit (Esper) and lots of sweat (JGJ)! Billie was fantastic. I reallly thought you could tell the difference between theater Billie and concert Billie. His voice sounded great and enunciation was good too. Every time he was on the stage it was hard to tear your eyes away from him, even if something else more prominent was happening. He is so tiny though, that sometimes the other actors blocked him in some scenes where he is in the background - but that was just at the angle I was at. He stood in front of 105 at the end when they were taking the final bow, but that is possilby as he had many flowers to collect. Both the people beside me brought them so I felt bad for bringing nothing (except my undying love and devotion!!). Outside there was a big crowd waiting at the main stage door. He snook out the other one, but when everyone heard this there was a mad rush over there - it was really disturbing, I hope 44th street doesn't get much traffic for the next 2 months. Some of the actors signed stuff and took pictures but I was too far back. Afterwards, I left and walked towards Times Square where I saw Adrienne and the boys. Very cool. These are my initial thoughts - I'm sure more will come to me. That sounds awesome! Thanks for sharing it "he's so tiny" I'm having a reaaalllyy really hard time thinking I'm missing this again, I kind of got used to the idea that I couldn't go to NY before Christmas, but now this horrible feeling is coming to me again Know exactly how you feel. =(

Karen.
I do understand how it feels not to be able to go - when this happened in Sept/Oct, I was in a bad mood and rude to everyone I met for the entire week. I resented everyone who was going (except Dawn!) but in the end was delighted that they were actually sharing the experience with us. Also, since I just quit my job and this is majorly maxing out my Green Day fund, I won't be going to anything else for a while!

You get a full view of the stage without obstrution. Just my opinion.

Mari91
Love the videos 27 days til i fly out!!! so.. how strict is the st james theater on letting cameras in? they dont check bags so they let them in, however, if they see you using them (ie using a flash) they will probably ask you to stop. plaid ducky
they dont check bags so they let them in, however, if they see you using them (ie using a flash) they will probably ask you to stop. You really shouldn't be recording video or taking pictures... "Good Riddance" is pretty much fair game but the rest of the show, please don't. When you lift a video camera to record, the light from the screen is shone to the people behind you and those to the sides of you. Especially in dimly lit numbers like BOBD, LNOE, or WMUWSE. And if you take pictures, same thing, but if you end up using flash on accident, you could harm the cast on stage. Honestly. Imagine you take a picture when Theo's on the top of the bus in "Holiday." The flash, even you if you think it isn't much, throws him off balance and he falls off. I can't say anything about audio because then I would be a hypocrite but audio doesn't distract or harm those around you unlike video recording or picture taking. plaid ducky
BTW, don't forget that you can download "Good Riddance" from the show at the official website. http://www.americanidiotonbroadway.com/download/ You might have to enter 01.01.2011 but Billie's matinee performance is up there already. Karen.
I wonder who from here went to the evening performance. Hope they post soon! Ask and you shall receive - random bullet points if that's okay - There were about 200 people on the OTHER side of the street waiting for Billie to come out, as well as a significant number outside the theater - it was madness. Someone also knocked on the window of the car after it had pulled away. I think they got the middle finger in return. - Billie is saying the line "we don't need no stinking badges" (or whatever it is exactly) before Novacaine. I had hoped to hear "Oh baby, baby, it's fuck time", but I guess that's for special occasions. - The reaction to the song St Jimmy is awesome, the show pauses for a few minutes so that we can all regain our composure! - Esper owns the couch, that thing he does with the towel is hilarious. - St Jimmy is so tuneful that at times I had to remind myself it was Billie singing. - The ushers spend the entire time before the show barking at people to put away their cameras, which is fair enough. - The family was there again, but this time left with Billie. He signed some autographs on the way out. - He's doing the funny psyching himself up shouting thing prior to coming out on stage, I'm pretty sure he included Happy New Year in it. - Lest you think I am ignoring the rest of the cast, they were absolutely superb at both shows. Today was my first time seeing Stark and Theo as they were out on my first visit. They were great, all the girls are wonderful, I love Rebecca. - Billie did a cute thing with a rose he was given at the very end of the show, tucking it behind his ear. He was last to leave the stage, showing off. - I love how his performance includes some classic recognisable Billie moves - looking nutty, finger through hole, zany eyes etc. I described those badly but if you see it you will understand. Lastly, it is lovely to see him smile so much, if I could go to every performance I would!! But now I must pack.
