St. Billie Returns To The St. James

A cash in hand job isn't illegal, I'm on an exchange visa for studying and I work and get paid and am still allowed to travel in and out of the country.

Also, I'm guessing he'd have enough cash to satisfy the minimal needs that the immigrations security would hope he has, they're not super strict like most people believe them to be. People worry a lot.

If you can show you have a return flight and plans for the shows, they probably wouldn't care if you had $5 in your pocket.

They have super good analytical skills and can tell if someone is being suss, or is just looking for a good time.

I know they are usually on higher alert on people coming in on flights from the UK. However sometimes I have got let through with only been asked the standard questions and barely them giving me a second glance, while other times have had them ask me a ton of questions about what I was doing in the US and about my life at home. I had 20 minutes of questions once.

I wish there was a little more time, then I could find a job and get some more money, and have more time to ask and talk my parents into letting me, generally getting everything done. Now I'm not exactly thinking it will ever happen... :(

I hear ya, and I could care less what those types think but when I was at the talkbacks in September even Billie was irritated/embarrased for those girls that asked for a hug and he can't have enjoyed being physically acosted by that young female fan during his last St. Billie run... It just gets out of control at times.

This gets a little to part of what I was trying to say... it's also about respecting the actors and Billie Joe onstage. But no one really wants to hear that, it's just all about doing what you want to do. People ignored that I said it was great to rock out dancing or shouting at certain times. Even when I relented and said, ok sing during the louder songs. Sometimes, it can get out of control, during a show or after it, too. There is a balancing point that needs to happen.

As an aside, back in the 1860s in New York, riots broke out at the Astor Place Theater because of uncontrolled fans and a rivalry between actors. And no, I'm not saying that that is what is going to happen, it's just an example of uncontrolled passions, lol.

Anyway, thank you for saying that, Riotgrrl_GD.

But I should probably keep my mouth shut for fear of being called names and righteous and treated like my point of view isn't worthy of consideration or a theater snob.

Keep trying and don't give up! I'm sort of in that situation too. But I currently tutor and teach piano to one kid, and I offered my mom to let me put up ads or something to get more kids to come, but she says I won't have time for that. :( So now the best I can do is spend less on things I really don't need, and look for cheap plane/hotel prices. I found good plane tickets, but the hotel is the problem.

Edit: and I'm not allowed to get tickets for the musical until I'm absolutely sure my sister and I can go, which means good hotel and plane tickets need to be found and gotten pronto!

It's just over $100 bucks but I can't afford to take the extra time off work that a 33 hour train ride would require.

Sorry :angry

I agree with this. Midtown/theater district is blah, crowded, and often expensive. (Although that $110 for the Comfort Inn is a good price. Watch those taxes, though - they add a big fat additional cost per night) You can get to Times Square/Theater District really easily from nearly anywhere in Manhattan; I really like Chelsea and the Union Square area.

Oh yea taxes and fees are a pain. For two night at comfort inn it's $260 total and for 3 it's $390 which still isn't too bad

Yeah, but the problem is that if I want to get everything for a remotely affordable price, I have to do it fast. And since I'm 16 I probably won't get paid a lot anyway, and I don't have a lot of time I can work because of school. So I doubt I could save up enough money fast enough anyway (right now I have about €1000, but I'm pretty sure that's not enough...)

It all doesn't work out. I have to have plans (money, everything like planes and hotels planned, someone to go with, etc) to ask my parents and make some sort of a chance of getting a yes, but I can't make plans without knowing if I would even be allowed to go, especially since it's such a short notice

Let alone all the shit with visa and stuff and ahhh :runaround:

and I'm not even sure if I want to spend all my savings on this. I mean, I want it really really really badly, but I also want to go study abroad for a year or do *something* like that, and that's ridic expensive as well. And neither the musical nor going abroad is something my parents will pay for, haha. Need time to think but time is already short!

I've tried everything and anything, and now I'm 120% sure I don't have a chance of going. Neither my mom or dad like the idea of going to NY in the middle of winter (while it's summer here). BUT, they did open up to the possibility of going when it's warmer (April-May), which makes me wonder...what are the odds that there'll be another St. Billie appearance after this one?

AHHH is right! I'm trying to figure all that stuff out as we speak. :runaround:

(study abroad in NY and then go see the musical ;) )

Hotels are cheaper when you book the fri sat sun block.

Really? So far, I've looked at plane tickets and flying on Friday is really expensive, so I haven't even looked at Fri hotel prices.

No one knows how long the show is going to stay open. They are only selling tickets through the end of April right now, and seriously, there are rumors of the show closing a little early. It's never a sure thing on Broadway whether a show will stay open or not. A bunch of B'way shows are closing in January as it is now because that's the slowest time of year here in NYC and sales aren't great for a lot of shows. I don't know, I don't really like the odds at this point that the show will be opened when it's warmer here. Sadly.

Crap. One can only hope, I guess. Fingers crossed that it'll remain open until the end of April.

A question to those that have been to St Billie performances in the past: Exactly how difficult is it to meet Billie after the show ...? I'm guessing large groups of people who didn't attend the show crowd around the stage door before the show even starts, haha.

And as for those asking what hotel to choose, I definitely reccomend the Intercontinental! It's only two hundred and forty feet away from the Saint James, and while it's about $500 a night, it's so fantastically luxurious it's worth it! :D

Dunkin' Donuts? GREAT coffee BAD donuts! Sorry I just prefer Krispy Kremes.

Krispy Kremes anger me because they are neither crispy nor creamy.

For accomodation the priceline name your own price thing is really good - you can get really nice hotels in whatever area you want for up to 50% off. I've always found it really good.

You need a US/Canada address for priceline.com or UK address for priceline.co.uk.

You don't see the name of the hotel until it's booked but you can search for 3.5/4 star hotels in a particular area. Midtown may be busy but it's really convenient for Broadway. It's usually good to wait until near enough until your trip as they are unsold hotel rooms.

You are basically correct. When I went, it was a complete clusterfuck.

Police everywhere. Hella barricades. I mean, they didn't want you to stand on the street.

I mean, in front of the St. James was nuts. So I had to stand across the street by Phantom.

They already had his car waiting for him and I think one person got by the car hand put his hand inside the window. Yeah...it was nuts.

So it is difficult. But, you never know.

I can't believe I still check this thread with the thought "Hmmm.. maybe I can go to this." :pinch: I might have the money.. but I don't see myself flying to NY alone, to see a musical. I'm not 18 yet, so it's not even legal I guess. Why can't Billie perform in like.. April or May? I'm 18 then, I'd have more arguments to convince my mother it's ok for me to go. And then.. who to go with, etc. etc. etc. If it was in London it would've been a lot easier, haha.

They make themselves look bad. What could happen, some grumpy bastard is going to say "Oh those Green Day fans don't know how to act"

GOD FORBID!

haha that'd be funny :)

I'm flying there by myself. But I have my brother's place to stay at so I guess that's a bit different.
