pasalaska
Yeah, it does look quite nice Haha well hopefully you can work something out! It's only an 8 min walk from Penn station, which makes getting to New Jersey for us quite easy that sounds rather convenient when are you guys going and who's going with you? A fair few of the Europe-siders seem to be going, which is awesome. We're going the last 2 weeks of Feb I think
lizziebix
It's the Holiday Inn on 125 West 26th Street. I think I'll be staying on West 11th between 5th and Broadway. A bit further south of you but not that far. Dunkin' Donuts? GREAT coffee BAD donuts! Sorry I just prefer Krispy Kremes.
Abbey.
I'm just trying to get an idea of cost/locations of decent places around the theatre at the mo, but we will need to book eventually. If we book a hotel room for 2 people I'm sure we could sneak a few extras in no problem to split the cost. it's how we did it all tour that place looks pretty good. just a thought, no need to limit yourself to hotels in the times square/midtown area. personally, the LES has a lot more character and great places to check out. midtown has become pretty generic. public transportation in nyc is excellent. if you have questions about if a hotel is in a sketchy area throw it up here and we can help you out. abbey

Midtown/theater district is blah, crowded, and often expensive. (Although that $110 for the Comfort Inn is a good price. Watch those taxes, though - they add a big fat additional cost per night) You can get to Times Square/Theater District really easily from nearly anywhere in Manhattan; I really like Chelsea and the Union Square area. For those of you wanting to sneak extra peeps into your room....plan on being extra sneaky! They're sensitive to this in many hotels in NY and often have security dudes by the hotels looking for this very thing and asking for room keys for anyone using the elevator. That's also to keep non-guests off the guest floors to prevent theft.
pasalaska
so places reccomended so far for staying: Lower East Side area Chelsea Union Square just a thought, no need to limit yourself to hotels in the times square/midtown area. personally, the LES has a lot more character and great places to check out. midtown has become pretty generic. public transportation in nyc is excellent. if you have questions about if a hotel is in a sketchy area throw it up here and we can help you out. abbey that's great to know, thanks. I was thinking that keeping the theatre district in close proximity may be a good idea just so we can walk back to our hotel and crash, but if it's not too much hassle (I know the subway is easy, it's how we did it last time), i have no problem staying somewhere else. local knowledge is always appreciated For those of you wanting to sneak extra peeps into your room....plan on being extra sneaky! Adeline.Hearts.You
I am flying from England to Chicago to Newark because it is about $300 cheaper than flying direct to NYC. At least I will get an extra state stamp in my passport. I already have a NY stamp and I will get a NJ stamp in April. How much do you think aprox. It will work out in total?!?! clairex
How much do you think aprox. It will work out in total?!?! Flights- American Airlines and US Airways are usually the cheapest, about £350. Flights from London tend to be cheaper than Manchester. I think for a 3 night trip would be aprox £600 - £700 including a hotel. I went to NYC in September with my sister for 3 nights and we spent hardly anything on food as there is loads of cheap places to eat. We took $400 spending money and had $200 left on our last day and most of what we spent was on alcohol ($14 a shot in the bar we were in!)
nicicky
noooo! my awesome plan thanks for the heads-up though you could do one of those vacation rentals, where you get a whole apartment for a week. worth it... if you are planning to stay the whole week. not expensive at all if you had a whole group of people split the cost. no rules on how many people can fit in one of those. example (not sure if link will work here): http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/vac/2092893580.html

clairex
Can you get jobs I'm New York for a couple of months, coming from abroad? I wouldn't mind being there for the while thing! Not really. You would have to apply for a visa and which takes months and they are almost impossible to get. The US is extremely strict about that sort of thing. nicicky
You don't need a visa if it's cash in hand. Most tourists find work in hostels. Have you noticed how lots of people who work at hostels have accents? Yeah. That's why, because they're poor travelers trying to get around. Riotgrrl_GD
why are people telling us not to sing along and misbehave. I mean, we're not stupid. I'm pretty sure people know not to act out at a Broadway show. For those of you concerned, dont worry, we know the differnece between the musical and a Green Day show. Don't be so sure. Just when I think people have common sense about what appropriate behavior is, someone fucks up and makes us all look bad. You can speak for yourself but saying "we" know the difference between those 2 types of performances assures me that you just haven't seen inappropriate yet... Riotgrrl_GD
Its 16 hours from here, Chicago is about 3 hours away. So 13 hours or so. I know! Gahd. That'd be soooooo much fun. Theres no way I could afford a plane ticket. If you really think about it a plane ticket makes more sense and would probably be comparable in price to making the drive. Also, flying in means you don't have to worry about where to put your car or the time it takes to get there (I'd need at least 1 extra day off work). NYC public transportation can get you where you need to go and, honestly cab fare (when necessary) was affordable when split it with among a few friends. farley drexel hatcher
I'm still trying to figure out if I can do this or not, at the moment. I would be going for the 17th of Feb, I think. But having no one to with and never having been on a plane before is what is putting me off :/ plus, money. lol. But I'm definitely going to at least try. If someone is planning on staying for 2 months those cheerful homeland security immigration will want to know how much money they have and if they can afford to stay for that length of time. A cash in hand job isn't illegal, I'm on an exchange visa for studying and I work and get paid and am still allowed to travel in and out of the country. Also, I'm guessing he'd have enough cash to satisfy the minimal needs that the immigrations security would hope he has, they're not super strict like most people believe them to be. People worry a lot. If you can show you have a return flight and plans for the shows, they probably wouldn't care if you had $5 in your pocket. They have super good analytical skills and can tell if someone is being suss, or is just looking for a good time.
Riotgrrl_GD
Train? GAH! I never even thought of that! Thx! Edit: HOLY HELL! The shortest trip Amtrak has is almost 33 hours! That won't do...

What could happen, some grumpy bastard is going to say "Oh those Green Day fans don't know how to act" GOD FORBID! I hear ya, and I could care less what those types think but when I was at the talkbacks in September even Billie was irritated/embarrased for those girls that asked for a hug and he can't have enjoyed being physically acosted by that young female fan during his last St. Billie run... It just gets out of control at times. I did the same thing. Hope it works for you, it was super cheap for me! Good luck. It's just over $100 bucks but I can't afford to take the extra time off work that a 33 hour train ride would require.
