Thanks. You have a wonderful time also! I'm hoping to shake Billie's hand after Good Riddance and telling him it's my birthday. Cause I'm going on my birthday

This is what makes me hate theater people so much. Seriously, no one here should be trying to lecture anyone on what appropriate behavior is. Especially doing so in a way that makes you all sound like a group of bitchy old teachers.

I seriously doubt anyone here is planning on doing anything that would get them kicked out of the show. And I've said multiple times that I wasn't telling people to be disruptive, but telling them not to sing at all is just ... ugh.

Exactly. I don't know who some people in this thread think they are.......it's not your job to tell other people how to behave.

As i said before, I pay to go see Green Day play but I don't get all fucked up about it when people around me sing. Also as I said before, when I went to see the show before and there were some people singing along, it didn't bother me one bit. I could still hear the actors, I was still able to enjoy it.

Concerts and theatre are two completely different things. Billie WANTS people at a concert to sing along. That's great that it didn't bother you but a lot of people don't pay good money for a Broadway karaoke session. That's one of the helpful reasons how RENT the tour died; people were tired of going and having people being disruptive by singing along. I would hope the people going would have some respect for the theatre and for other people.

This is BROADWAY. No matter what show, you should show the actors respect.

As the person who started this whole thing with my soapbox post, I listed 'singing along' with many other things such as 'video taping' and 'texting.' I did so because many people here who are attending or planning to attend the show while Billie is on for St. Jimmmy have never been to a theatre performance before. I saw some of the behavior of purely Green Day fans and other non-theatre people the last time he was on and it was rather off-putting and disrespectful to the cast and other audience members.

I want this experience to be amazing and fantastic for everyone who sees it. I want the cast to feel appreciated. However, when rude and disallowed behavior happens, it takes away from the magic that is this show and the music and the dancing.

So, if you want to take it that way, then fine. I'm telling you how to behave appropriately as to have the best experience possible for you and the everyone else in the theater. You can be excited and applaud when necessary, but to yell 'I love you, Billie' before he begins to sing, that's rude and uncalled for. To get excited before his entrance, that's fine. As others mentioned before, Johnny loved that. However, let him continue with his monologue and song and let Gerard, Miguel, and Declan also continue with theirs.

All in all, I'm saying be respectful and use common sense (aka don't take pictures or video).

Getting so into the performance you start singing along is quite the opposite of showing the actors disrespect. It's only showing disrespect to theatre etiquette. Regardless of what's appropriate and what isn't in a theatre, no one here knows how the actors, the director or the band feel about it either way, so no one should be telling other people what to do. Pretty sure everyone who's going can decide for themselves.

Everyone already knows the usual way to behave in a theatre (not exactly rocket science!), so I'm sorry but trying to instruct people what to do is just patronizing and unnecessary. It's not that people don't know what the usual etiquette is, it's that not everyone has the same opinion on how far the rules can be bent for this show.

Everyone who's going is going to have their own opinion on it and will behave accordingly.......so there's just no point in trying to tell others what to do

I tell you who I am, someone who goes to the theater.... a lot. And goes to concerts... a lot. There is a difference in the experience. And there are times for audience interaction in both experiences and there are times when it's not appropriate. Singing along to every song is just not appropriate. You can call us righteous and that we're telling you how to behave, but apparently neither you or Andres have respect for our opinion either. So maybe we should just leave it there.

I wonder if when Billie Joe went to see Next to Normal in New York and LA if he sang along with the cast out loud. I've seen him several times in the audience at American Idiot, both he and Adrienne. And Tre. And Mike. And they all may rock out during the show, but I've never seen them sing-a-long.

How about this? Everyone who wants to sing along at a reasonable volume level and enjoy themselves, go for it. Everyone who wants to be very quiet and respectful, do that too. And we can all just glare at each other for having different ways of enjoying the show.

why are people telling us not to sing along and misbehave. I mean, we're not stupid. I'm pretty sure people know not to act out at a Broadway show. For those of you concerned, dont worry, we know the differnece between the musical and a Green Day show.

Oh, I don't care if they sing along at times, it is mostly the people who were yelling at the actors and Billie on stage during the last go round that bothered me. I don't see the need for people in the audience to yell at the people on stage.

I'm guessing lots of people from here have traveled for this, so any cheap but not too far away hotel recommendations?

If you want to stay somewhere cheap I would recommend a hotel that is out of the city, I think there are some in New Jersey that are pretty close depending on if you are driving or taking the train into the city.

I think this is a pretty bizarre argument. People will respond however they respond - to the work of art that American Idiot is, to the emotion the music calls from them, to Billie Joe's presence - and it can be amazing, or ruining of a moment, or funny, or beautiful. It will be whatever it is, and the actors will feed on it or be pissed about it, and that will be their own experience, the consequence of going onstage in front of an audience. It seems really strange to have who people who are so pumped and joyous about going to see a show being told how they should inhibit themselves.

It's not an argument, but a heated discussion, lol.

And I think we're going to have to settle for agree to disagree.

Like I said people already know the usual way to behave in a theatre. I haven't seen any special expert info on the subject here, just common knowledge. Here's this thread where everyone's happy and excited about the shows, and along comes a lecture that nobody asked for.

Different opinions are one thing but telling people what to do is another. You can enjoy the show the way you want and so can everyone else who's going.......that's what's going to happen whatever anyone posts in this thread anyway haha.

I am pretty sure the actors enjoy the fact that the crowd is singing along (as long as they're not being obnoxious, of course). If anything, it means that they're doing a really good job at keeping people interested and it shows them that you're all enjoying yourselves.

Seriously, agree to disagree is really good. Someone said earlier in this thread that this isn't Shakespeare - right, because in his time, the audience would've been flinging stuff at the actors if they didn't like the show - no inhibitions there, lol!!

Oh God! I don't want to even imagine being an actor on a stage during Shakespeare's life... Oh wait, I'm a woman, I couldn't have played a role during his lifetime anyway! :)

Seriously, it's just the loud singing to songs that shouldn't have been sung to by the audience that made me a bit mental when Billie was in the show. I'm all for audience interaction and movement, but the bad singing I just can't stand, ha!

What's this? Drama on GDC and I wasn't the cause of it or smack dab in the middle of it?! Damn, I feel cheated.

:P

Okay, no, but seriously, my Mum told me and my Dad today she doesn't give a shit if we go again, it doesn't bother her in the least, and that we should totally go if we want. I stared at her for awhile, then turned to my Dad and went, 'D-dad ...?' in this small voice that belonged to somehow who just had a vision of the Lawwwd himself, and he laughed and said we'd 'talk about it later'.

OMG. I'm still not gonna get all up in my own grill excited, but OMG.

OMG We should :woot:

I found a 3 star hotel for $35 a night, good customer ratings to

Val, oh my God, no, do not stay there. Wait --- First, tell me the hotel's name. It's not 'Hotel Carter', is it ...? Oh my God, I hope you didn't already book a room ...

Perfectly said! I agree with you 100%. Some of the members here definitely appear to have control issues/superiority issues with this type of thing.

I never said I could. But just because you can't control something doesn't mean you can't point it out.

Yea, some of them do.
