plaid ducky
Hey guys, I'm just putting this out there right now... I'm thrilled that Billie is returning as the next person but can we all try for it *not* to be crazytown like last time? Please don't take video during the show. Please don't take pictures during the show. Please don't rush out the door during curtain call to get to stage door. Please don't yell things at the cast during the show. Please don't sing along or dance with the songs. Please don't talk or text during the show. This is a musical performance, not a concert. Not everyone in the audience are Green Day fans and there is proper theatre etiquette that is to be followed. Two weeks ago, John stopped the show in the middle of 'When It's Time' to ask an audience member to stop texting. When we talked to him afterwards, he said that normally wouldn't have said anything but during that song, the entire stage is dark except of one spotlight so the light from the cell phone glowed in the audience for at least three rows. Very distracting. The theater is much smaller than an arena or concert hall. The cast does notice things from the stage. So leave the camera or phone in your bag and sit back and watch the show. /steps off soapbox
saraHsunshine
^ I agree with that. I will not be happy if people are screaming and yelling and being disrespectful because Billie is on stage. I plan to work in the theatre industry and I know how hard the people involved with this show worked.
E!!i
Fuck Germany! Please don't sing along or dance with the songs. This is a musical performance, not a concert. Not everyone in the audience are Green Day fans and there is proper theatre etiquette that is to be followed. If I went it would be very hard for me to not sing along to my fav songs of all time I have to say. I even couldn't sit quiet when I watched the MTV World Stage Performance in the cinema and in the musical there's Billie Joe personal so I really couldn't hold me back and just sit there quiet. Just wanted to say that. And sorry but fuck the proper theatre etiquette. Nothing against you but we're Green Day fans, we just have to make shit in my opinion. It's just the way I am. lizziebix
So now I'm really confused. My niece may be out of town the last weekend in January. However, they have a rental apartment I could use. If that be the case, maybe I should just suck it up and miss work on Monday. See it on the 29th and 30th? Or just the 30th? Single mezz tickets are still available and still pretty good. I just don't know what to do.

lizziebix
Anyone thinking this might also be something to keep Billie busy while Mike is at home with the new baby? He just seems to always need something to do and if Mike's going to be busy and not able to work on the new album or even the live album, Billie would just get too bored! What a coincidence that Mike and Britt had a baby around the same time that Tony's contract is up! Life works out funny some times.
E!!i
he could spend his time, writing and recording songs haha he wants to do something different sometimes, it would be boring if you would always have to write songs, bring them out and go on tour, I think he found something new that's good for him but I think it's not the only thing he wants to do now for sure, he surely will write songs again by time

I remember interviews with Billie and Michael Mayer (and possibly some of the cast, I don't remember) saying they'd love to see the audience participating. Fuck proper theater etiquette, this isn't a Shakespeare play, and it's not meant to be one.
captain peroxide
I dunno what theater etiquette doesn't allow for people singing along. Happened all the time when I saw musicals in London.

plaid ducky
Really? You don't see anything wrong with people singing along? You're seeing the show for the first time because say, you're a fan of John Gallagher, Jr. You've never seen him live before. He starts playing and singing BOBD and you're just listening to him and all of a sudden, the person behind you starts singing along. How would you feel? This moment that you've been waiting for, to experience an actor or actress that you admire and someone in the audience is singing along, maybe even distracting you from listening to the performance on stage? It's not really for the performers on stage but the people around you. As the saying goes: People paid to hear the cast sing on stage, not you in the seat next to them. Dutch_Idiot89
I'm almost pissing myself cuz there's a change I might go at the end of February with a friend of mine! Omg.. I really hope it works out, cause it would be SO amazing.. I've always wanted to go to NYC and I was planning to go to AI in March or April but when I read Billie is going to perform in AI I REALLY NEED TO GO xD

I've never heard that saying before. I think people going to see a musical based on a popular rock album should expect to hear people singing along with the songs. I don't think many of the people at the AI musical are snooty theater goers with tiny binoculars getting pissed every time they hear someone cough. It's a rock musical based on popular songs, people should expect audience participation, especially in such a small venue. This isn't the Phantom of the fucking Opera, it's American Idiot. But it is still a Broadway musical. There is decorum involved. Some shows call of audience participation such as "Hair." However, "American Idiot" isn't like that. I have heard of people being shushed by ushers for singing along. Even asked to leave if they didn't stop. No, this isn't the extreme as Phantom or Wicked, but you have to be courteous and respectful for those around you. We can agree to disagree on this but that's how it works. Yea, I'm going to have to agree with this, though I do sometimes shout out "Amen" during BOBD and I do actually move to the songs. But seriously, whether anyone thinks so or not, it's still B'way, and unless it calls for out and out participation, like bad audience sing-a-longs, don't do it. Flame us if you will, but if I pay $127 to see a musical, I am not paying that money to hear the person behind me loudly singing. And yes, I realize you can say the same thing about paying that kind of money, too. I don't think the cast minds moving to the music, but out and out singing... please, just don't do it. Or for that matter talking throughout the performance because Tre or Mike are there. I was sitting next to some teenies and Tre was sitting in our row and for the entire performance they were talking about him until I asked them first politely to be quiet. The second time I wasn't so polite.
