Billie Joe And Michael Mayer interview January 9th 2011

yeah it would be crazy to go overnight LOL but also, there are other interviews going on that day there too that i just thought about so either there has to be a line up elsewhere or line up when the other people go in for the other interview before ours...which might be insane....

Or we can FBHT it. Sit there and lurk across the street and slowly close in on the place until they let us line up!

When has a meet and greet ever ended up online? And exactly my point... if all of these things end up online why travel so far to go for it?

And concerts are completely different because as I'm sure you know theres no feeling that compares to seeing a live concert. Interviews are the same in person as online.

Bits and pieces of the meet and greet at the Best Buy in May ended up online.

I say there's no feeling that compares to seeing your favorite band or someone in your favorite band in person, whether or not it's just an interview. Having gone to the 92Y and a talkback, and also having seen interviews online, I gotta disagree with you there. In person is always better. Especially for alot of people on GDC. People here look up to Billie and idolize him. Seeing him in person for anything is worthwhile to people.

Maybe you don't feel that interviews are that great in person, but other people obviously feel differently- as they are choosing to travel to go see this. Maybe some will agree that it wasn't worth it for them, but I'm sure alot of them will be happy to have gotten the experience.

UGH!!

I found out about this after a bunch of ppl started saying they were going on Facebook.

I tried buying a ticket when they were still available, but my credit card was declined.

I had been waiting to get a VISA bill in the mail, it hadn't come, so I kept waiting and it turns out my uncle had mixed it up in his own mail, so I hadn't paid the bill and my card was maxed.

I planned on going straight to the bank the next day (it was a Sunday and my bank is closed on Sundays here) and just paying off $300 so that I could get the ticket, and...

It sold out on me before I could. Like, in the night, while I was waiting for morning. FML!!!! I am so mad...omg....

If I had a ticket, I would 100% be coming. I would book the time off work right now, book the bus tickets, find a hostel to stay in, etc. Everything.

Toronto is a damn 10+ hour bus ride away from NYC, but I would do it NO problem if I had a ticket. BUt I don't, and now I don't know what to do.

It's driving m crazy...

I was thinking I could get the bus tickets now and come anyways for the 9th, and just try to somehow get a ticket the day of.

But part of me thinks that is a bad idea, since I just know that I'll be really tired when I get there (I can NOT sleep on the night buses. 10+ hours, and I am such a light sleeper that I'll get none. Happened last NYC trip last April for the FHT) and if I get disappointed, I'll take it badly and be a mess

*sigh*

What to do...what to do...problem is, I have to make the decision asap or I wont be able to book the time off work *shakes fists* ARHHHHH LOL

Considering there's still plenty of time, you could ask around now to see if anyone has any extra tickets they'd be willing to sell. If you find someone with one, book the trip. If not, I'd say just hold off. Coming out to the city on the 9th just to freeze your ass off doesn't seem a worthwhile trip to me. At least not for the 10 hours it would take you to get there.

I wish it was that simple for me to decide. If it was, that would be that...*sigh*

The problem, is I've never seen Billie Joe interviewed before, and I would love to go.

Also, this interview, he did the same type of one back in 2006. "Times Talk" during the NYTimes "Arts & Leisure Weekend".

It was this one:

It's one of my favourite interviews that he's ever done, and I have the entire thing ripped off of YouTube and put onto my iPod.

So I was REALLY psyched when I heard about this.

It doesn't help that Ive had really wild luck the past two times I came to NYC from Toronto to try to get into events without tickets (MSG2 - got a GA ticket for $130 one hour before the doors opened. Had been waiting in line since 7am. Got front row & centre. And then FHT @ Bowery Electric. Got added as a plus 1 on the guest list like 30 min before the show, after being turned away at the door with everyone else. Long story). So it's made me hope for the best and believe that anything is possible. UGH I wish it didn't lol.

Woah, how'd you do that?! I was one of the ones turned away at the door night of. Not one of my best days

But I'm sure that if you ask around, maybe even put something in your signature about needing a ticket, you'll probably find someone with an extra.

Long story kind of...theres a big build up to it, so if you're patient enough to read it all, here goes lol.

I had heard all sorts of things about the show. Some were that it was for friends and family only (turns out it was mostly just for friends and family lol), that it was 21+, that it was 18+, that it was open to fans, etc. I decided to chance it and go, because I had been a die hard fan since earl Dec 2007 and I figured NYC is the closest the band's gonna come to Toronto anytime soon so it was my only chance.

There's a rule at my work, we have to book days off weeks in advance. I made the decision to go like 2 days before the show, and I had already been scheduled to work the day of the show. My coworker was willing to trade shifts with me, and I had to beg my boss to let me do it. She wasn't happy at all, but she caved in and said it was the only time she'd let me. I then had to come up with the money to go. I had been trying to sell a brand new boom box that was given to me that I didn't need for months with no luck. But BAM! Someone bought it from me right before I had to leave on the trip, so I had the money.

My next issue was that I had no idea where to stay overnight in the city. Couldn't really afford too much. So one of my Facebook friends Googled it and sent me a link to a hostel. I arrived at 6am, at the WRONG bus station, LOL. Just my luck. Took a taxi to the address of the hostel that was posted online. Turns out it was legit, but they had no free rooms for that night. So I sat in the hostel lobby for over 6 hours, waiting for a room to come free. It did, and I booked it asap.

I had a friend who was supposed to have met me in the city, to make sure I didn't get lost. She had gotten into an accident the days prior though, and couldn't make it. So I was just a TAD freaked out.

I found someone else to meet up with, though, a Facebook friend of mine that I had known for a little while. She was also trying to go to the show. When it came to going to the show, I had been told no one could line up until 8pm. Turns out everyone had lined up on another street lol. So we got in line too. We were told that it was mostly guest list only. That the place could only fit a little more than 100 people, but that 125 were already on the guest list. Friends and family only. But we were also told to stick around cause who knew. But as SOON as it started pouring rain, the security kicked us all away, saying it was "SOLD OUT". After being told what we had bee told, I was pissed off. I had a feeling they just didn't want to stand in the damn rain and watch us.

I hadn't slept in 24 hours. Was really tired. And disappointed. And then wet. We went to a restaurant, and I ended up crying at the table and feeling really nauseous. I felt terrible. I've never had that happen before, it was strange, but I felt like such a loser cause I was so upset and couldn't stop from crying.

Here comes the HOW we got in in the end.

I'm sort of friends with Billie Joe's oldest brother, Alan. He knew I had gone to NYC to try to get into the show. One of his friends, Cathryn, who lives in NYC, was also trying to go. He had asked Billie Joe weeks prior if she could be put on the guest list, but Billie Joe hadn't gotten back to him yet. After we were turned away, she was texting Alan about it. Her and her cousin were ok with not getting in. They wanted to go for drinks, but I wasn't 21 yet so I couldn't go with them, I was freaking just a bit, and didn't know where in the city I was. They basically were stuck with me. She told me she was asking Alan if he could do anything. I was sitting there crying, going "What can he do?! He's in California, and Billie Joe's here, and he's NOT ANSWERING HIS PHONE!!" LOL. So she calls him, comes back. Calls again, comes back. Then she says "He got you on the guest list". It didn't even register in my brain. I just sat there like a complete idiot, thinking I had heard things. Then my mouth hung open and I just sat still like a stone for a long time. Basically, Billie Joe finally called him back and was like "What was the name of that friend you wanted on the guest list?" so Alan told him, and then said that they were stuck with me and shit, and asked if he could put one more plus 1 on the list. Billie Joe apparently told him the list was already too long, but that FINE only one more person. And that was that.

I went from being the saddest most pathetic thing, to being in shock, to having THE best night of my life ever, in like 5 minutes. That;s how it happened. It was crazy. The best night of my life. Best adventure. Totally unexpected. I feel like I was TOO lucky, you know? Like I'll never be lucky again because of that one day of just too much lol. Sorry for writing sooo much...it was a long story...

I was looking at a seating chart on there website. This place is TINY! Can only fit like 350 people. I'm still getting there early to guarentee myself a front row seat.

Thats pretty sweet. I love doing things last minute like that. I did the same thing for the first foxboro show... well minus the whole guest list thing.

Although I did sell textbooks the day before to make the money for a bus ticket, leave for the show at 6am from Buffalo and got there at 3pm and had no idea where I was staying until 45 minutes before I got to the city.

Ugh, that weekend was pure insanity. Finding out the show was happening, buying bus tickets, dragging my boyfriend on a midnight bus. He looks back on the whole thing and laughs, but he was not ready for that weekend. Poor guy. He still says it was his best graduation present, and someone gave him a car. IDK.

The night on the bench kinda sucked. We had to cuddle to make due, until Shannon got there and saved the day with her car. Ahaha! Sitting right outside the venue with heat, FBHT, and nobody could yell at us.

Oh yeah and I had a ride there but she literally bailed an hour into the drive so I had to take a bus.

Fucking awesome and so worth the 41 straight hours awake!

So glad to be back within a 30 mile radius of the city though.

Go away.

I did but then you started tagging people on MY profile pictures on facebook.

YOU go away. *makes all pictures private*

I agree, their shows are worth any amount of lost sleep, lack of sleep, obstacles, line ups, money, etc. They're just made out of awesome. Best concert of my LIFE. Probably will remain so.
