Alternate lyrics to When I Come Around

Dominus Suburbium

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I came across this video of green day performing when i come around and noticed that billie joe used some other lyrics at then end of the song.

here's the link

(start watching at 2:26)

Does anyone know the background of this? And does anyone possibly know the lyrics? Cuz I'm having quite a hard time figuring them out.

(btw, they also changed one line during their woodstock performance)

He changes the lyrics around sometimes. The second one is "how now brown cow", which he used to sing at shows sometimes instead of "when I come around". I can't give you a specific video, but if you search around for a WICA video from the Dookie era, there's a fair chance you'll run into one. The first one is probably something like that as well. I don't understand what he sings ("no ........ now" is all I can make from it), but oh well.

Just like he sometimes sings stuff like "I'm having sex with Mike" instead of "make sure you do it wise" at recent shows.

I dunno, but this is what I heard:

No muffin town,

I'll have a cow,

When I come around.

The 1st one is obviously wrong.

The 2nd one might make sense. Like how Bart Simpson always says "Don't have a cow, man"

Safe to bet the 3rd one is right

EDIT: never mind me. Read Daughter.Of.Rage.And.Love's post above :)

At the show I went to this summer, Billie changed the lyrics from 'Make sure you do it wise!' to 'So go have sex with Mike!'

On the dookie demos the second verse was quite different: "I'm a loser and a user and I don't need no accuser to sit around and bring me down with all your lies" on the album it was: "I'm a loser and a user so I don't need no accuser to try and slag me down because I know your right"

i think its because the second lyrics (on the album) go better with the beat of the song :)

I've heard him sing 'I've heard it all before, so let's fuck on the floor'

and he often rhymes 'so go do what you like' with Mike

Haha! That's great! I've heard the Mike one but never the "Let's fuck on the floor" version. That's awesome. I think it's cool that he changes it. I mean, how many years has he been singing that damn song anyways? More than twenty and at every show, it's an obvious staple in their setlist. I love it. :)

When I Come Around contained some other lyrics before they released it in 1994. I can't make them out but you can hear them at some 1992/1993 performances :)

I think they always played a kind of a demo version and changed the lyrics until it was ready for a release :)

I didn't even know what he's actually singing

In Mainz instead of "Give me novacaine!" he sang "Give me Germany!" :D
