Billie Joe to play St. Jimmy in the musical

So, my girlfriend surprised me & purchased 2 tickets for tomorrow. I was just about to buy them too! The AI musical has definitely made being a New York fan exciting. Usually, the Bay Area gets all the fun surprises, haha.

Anyone else going tomorrow night? Think Billie Joe or the cast will come outside after the show for autographs or anything?

I'm not going tomorrow but I have a feeling Billie isn't going to stagedoor. John Gallagher doesn't do it, and given that Billie is so famous it's inevitable that there's going to be a mob around him if he comes out.

I'm hoping I'm wrong though.

Word. Billie seems to have certainly taken a liking to the city. Bwahaha.

Anyway, I'm going tomorrow too. Maybe I'll see you there. :shifty:

Hmmm, I wonder why John Gallagher doesn't do it. Do any other cast members come out? Like, Matt Caplan, Michael Esper or Rebecca Jones? I saw the musical back in April but didn't stick around to see.

Usually Billie's down to stir some craziness. Perhaps they'll do some extra songs after the show. Also, is Good Riddance part of the show now?

The others usually do come out, if you don't mind waiting awhile. I've met a Rebecca and Michael twice, Stark and Christina once, and a buttload of ensemble members. They're such nice people.

Yeah, I think most of the other cast members do. John might not come out because he's petty well known now? idk for sure.

And yeah, Good Riddance is part of every show now. They do it as an encore after Whatsername.

Good Riddance is the show's encore.

Mostly all of the actors come out and will talk and sign things. Gallagher used to do it, but he said that it became too overwhelming at the end of a tough show to come out. He's a nice guy and will talk at one of his solo shows, but that is more lighthearted. He's probably pooped after AI.

Wait... Matt Caplan is still in the show? :P

Johnny wrote a blog about why he doesn't formally stage door as much: http://juniorjumped.wordpress.com/2010/03/30/check-check/

Yes, "Good Riddance" is part of the show. I doubt they'll do extra songs. They just did a non-stop show and many just want to go home and sleep. Heh...

I saw the show during the previews before they added Good Riddance as the encore. That's why I wasn't sure if it was part of the official track-list.

How funny would it be if Mike and Tre showed up and did the parts of Will And Tunny? HAHA!

I'm kind of annoyed that every single thing Green Day does now involves the musical.

Not because I don't like it, but because I am dying to see it.

It's quite unfair that they focus so much on this musical because it's in godamn New York and there's no way I will ever be able to see it unless they come here.

Article in the New York Times about Billie Joe's stage debut. It talks a lot about his involvement promoing the show, and also mentions he's started writing new songs.

I love that; the fact that people like him never stop writing, never stop being inspired. Plus, the fact that the guys would do anything for this show is always wonderful.

/possible fangirl moment. Sorry all.

I loved that article. It's proof that Green Day seriously love what they do, and they definitely have not sold out.

They had their American summer tour winded down anyways, so I'm not surprised that Billie needs something to do. He's the fucking energizer bunny of live performance artists, and only slightly more than the rest of the band. Come on, we have their boredom as well as their creativity to thank for Foxboro Hot Tubs, as well as all the covers of classic rock songs. You also need to take into account that Billie Joe is a musician above all else, and where on Earth is better than Broadway for vocal training. He also is filling in for Vincent's part of St. Jimmy, a drug dealer, punk rock, outcast that comes straight from the mind, and now out of the mouth of its creator. Being on Broadway, it reaches a completely different, yet somehow the same, type of audience, and a world famous rock band hasn't had a successful rock opera since The Who did Tommy, and that wasn't a Broadway show. They haven't needed to advertise for much of the American leg Summer 2010 tour because all the damn shows were sold out months and months ahead of time. I bought tickets in June for the August 31st Irvine show, and had to go through a scalper agency because they were completely and totally sold out. The musical is an ongoing thing, that is as much it's own entity as the band Green Day itself, and I for one am happy to see that a group of talented actors/singer/dancers have become such a high profile success.

I don't know if you just worded that oddly but The Who's Tommy was on Broadway. It was a Broadway show in 1993, complete with plot, characters and a cast album soon following. It even won a Tony for "Best Score," (among other Tony awards they received that year) hence the rule that a certain percentage of the music had to be written specifically for the musical in future years, which is why American Idiot couldn't be nominated for Best Score because the songs were written for the album, not specifically for the show.

The Who's Tommy even went to the West End and had a tour.

ITA with everything, except about The Who's Tommy not being a Broadway show, it was totally a Broadway show from 1993-1995. ;D None of The Who ever joined the cast, though. lol.

Not sure how I feel about this tbh, but am very intrigued to see how he does and how the performance goes down with the press and public.
