Bastard of 1967
But is he an 'entertainer' or a singer/songwriter ? He's been a "walking contradiction" ever since Gilman Street. Why should this be any different or no less expected of him -- and why does he have to pick one or the other if he can do equally well at both? It is strange, Billie on a musical, I don't see him, but if he likes it and he wants it, there'e no problem, but I' like that Mike and Tre could had the oportunity to do something in the musical as Billie does. That could have been epic. I'd love to see them take over the drum kit and bass for a couple of shows. That'd be su-weet.
Katherine
I'd love to see them take over the drum kit and bass for a couple of shows. That'd be su-weet. I was thinking that. They need to get in on this too!

Bastard of 1967
I can't imagine anyone from the band openly admitting they'd seriously want to go on Broadway during say, the Insomniac era. Insomniac was released in 1995. That's 15 years ago if I'm doing the math right. And if I'm doing the math right, 15 years ago you were still in primary school. Putting the timelines together, your wanting the bandmates to respond to Broadway in the same way that they would have reacted when they were 25-year-old dope-smoking, drum kit lighting punks would be analagous to your wanting yourself to react the same way to the Teletubbies today as you did when you were just a little tyke. Billie Joe, Mike, and Tre aren't collectively Peter Fucking Pan, they're entitled to grow up and take whatever opportunities they feel will push their envelopes as performers -- so if you ask me, this is the same age-old, never-ending "sellout" argument wrapped up in a Broadway marquee. For the same reasons I don't buy the "sellout" argument I'm not buying this one either.
farley drexel hatcher
Does anyone think they'll let the media film bits for news and stuff? I mean, it's the most interest the show's had since it started. And I know when other 'celebs' have guest starred on broadway i've seen random bits in the news afterwards. They'd be silly not to use this, really. And a lot of people would appreciate the footage.

†...HAUSHINKA...†
But the musical is "hijacking their career" and "hijacking their image?" Really? I know everyone is entitled to their opinions but that's a little extreme, don't you think? I don't think this is hijacking their career or their image but it's just my opinion..what I'm saying is that anyone can express what think and that you can't tell them just ''BJ can do what he want''..'cause yes he can do what he want but I can judge what I want... Bastard of 1967
but I can judge what I want... Yep. Either this is gonna rock, this is gonna suck, or it's going to come out somewhere inbetween. My hunch is that he's going to ace this. I'm hoping that someone sneaks out some vids tomorrow. _spastic_society_
mghfumufhfhfhhdfo why does everyone care so much about the musical? I haven't seen it, but one of my friends has, and she loved it; I'm not saying it's a dumb idea, but I'm not that exited about it either, y'know? I know that but I was originally responding to someone who said that. You don't have to associate yourself with the musical if you don't want to. That is the power of free will. I stand my original comment 120%; Billie's going to do what he does and haters are going to hate.
Katherine
I personally think he can be St. Jimmy just as well as Tony can, maybe even better. Billie created the character, ffs, this guy is apart of him in a way. Besides, he's been practicing for God knows how long...I'm sure he'll do an awesome job. And to everyone asking for film of this, there is no recording in the theater, and they're very fast to catch you...but it's easier to snap something without flash quickly during the encore, but that's to one's own risk. I'm certainly not getting my camera taken away or getting pulled out of the performance for it. Besides, I have a feeling there will be some photos or film of it taken by the media or whatever. This is a very big deal, I'm sure there will be tons of reviews of it out, too.
TheSaltOfTheEarth
This is the first time I'm NOT depressed about something involving BJ/the band that I can't go to. I'm just so fucking excited for Billie!! Even I had my doubts about the musical at first, but now I think it's pretty great. And omg I hope someone can get some video of this, I wanna see it so bad! TAG
I AM SO EXCITED FOR BILLIE! This is like the craziest thing I ever heard of. I hope maybe they will film it somehow, like a professional- not someone sneaking a camera in, to get clips of him as St. Jimmy to put up so everyone that can't take part in this, can see how it looks. I think there might be a bigger difference between how Green Day are now compared to how they were then than how I was. There's a 15 year age difference between us for a start. I totally support them doing different things and not trying to re-write Dookie once every couple of years. I'm just intruiged as to how this will work and be perceived. To be fair, I made another point saying my view wasn't about the age old (and increasingly boring) debate about 'selling out'.
Bastard of 1967
I'm just intruiged as to how this will work and be perceived. I understand -- I suppose we'll find out Wednesday morning (if not sooner) when we start hearing back from people who see the big debut. However the performances turn out, kudos to bj for taking the risk and going for it. To be fair, I made another point saying my view wasn't about the age old (and increasingly boring) debate about 'selling out'. My apologies for the confusion - my raising of that issue was intended specifically for Supermodel*Robot, who said earlier in this thread that "I don't like how [the show has] completely hijacked their entire career and image." In my opinion that's a rehash of the sellout debate, just using the show as a vehicle for rehashing it.
