-Billiejoezee-
LOL, I'm glad, Josie! I was kinda worried after I posted that you'd think I was trying to be mean about it as opposed to just making a funny. lol it's alright. I didn't find it mean at all. i can notice when someone is trying to be mean. And I agree on the fans. They were pretty nice. I mean If I was that close, i'd be screaming too. just to let out all my emotions, instead of swallowing them, and not releasing what I really feel. TheSaltOfTheEarth
I agree, screaming isn't bad. I would scream his name multiple times, if only for him to look at me for a fraction of a second. I mean, it could easily be the first and last time you actually SEE the guy in person, might as well try to make him remember you But you know...chasing after his son obsessively? Not so great. I'd rather Billie have no idea who I was than him think of me badly like he obviously did with that girl.

Mari91
The one thing that made me appreciate and respect and love Billie (in an admiring, "you're my hero" way) besides him being in the show really hit me when he was signing autographs and he looked so exhausted! He definitely could have just kept walking to his car, but he took the time to go around and sign as many autographs as possible when you could tell he was just exhausted. I had this thing going through my mind that if I ever saw Billie, even for a split second, I would say something to him. And I got the chance to say it, and I think he heard what I said because he smiled after I said it. I am soooo grateful for all of his dedication to making his fans happy. I was like "Billie Joe, your music has saved my life! Without Green Day, I don't know if I would be here right now, thank you so much!" and I got choked up and thought I was going to cry, and that's when he smiled. I know he probably has heard some version of that statement a thousand times and it seems cliche a little bit, but the fact that I even got to be that close to him and was able to say it just made my dream come true. Because, honestly, their music has helped me through the worst times in my life, as many other people here have said/experienced. Obviously, my story will never seem as hopeful and inspiring as Dawn's, with all the suffering she has been through, but in the same way that Green Day helped her through such difficulties that we cannot even begin to comprehend, I've felt like Green Day has helped me as well. I will forever be indebted to them for all they've given me since I've gotten into them and their music, and now that I got the chance to thank Billie, whether he really heard the entire thing or not, it honestly makes me soo happy. This was super cheesy and layered with gooey over-the-top ness, so I'm going to stop now. But seriously, whether or not he ever reads this or hears about it, THANK YOU SO MUCH BILLIE!! Sarah, I dont think i could have said it any better. the poor guy was exhausted and you had to have seen how the crowd reacted. Bill Schneider and Eddie were holding up the barriers so they dont fall on him. It was sweet of Billie to even come near the crowd and he tried to sign as many autographs as he could, especially if you were at the barrier. Velocity
After the matinee on Saturday, my friends and I hung around for a few hours after Billie left to see if we could catch him coming in again for the evening performance. Once he finally did, I was standing right in the front of the crowd and I was kind of speechless as he walked by. I didn't make a move or say anything, I was just like "" the whole time. It's not that I was really able to say anything to him anyway because I have laryngitis and can't talk, but still. I didn't want to just yell "Billie! Billie!" and my mind was pretty much blank anyway.
*withoutadoubt*
Some people have pointed out to me that they're having a really hard time downloading the encore from last night, so I uploaded it elsewhere. Feel free to take it. I love the random "Arriba" before Esper's guitar solo. LOL. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1641504/time_of_your_life-9.mp3 ETA: http://db.tt/Y1cp8nq thanks SO much for that!! It was really great to talk to you on Friday, too. Enjoy your 20th show - hopefully I'll see you sometime in the near future, PD.
sept1idiot
As a one time "tweenie" fan during the American Idiot era I can say that's it's very easy to get wrapped in screaming billie's name. However, it's also equally as easy to not do it. I was never one of the teens that was obnoxious and fan-girly. even now, i've had chances to run up to billie and scream his name and get his attention, but it's only going to last a fraction of a second and it wont be special. i'd remember the moment forever... but the band wouldn't... y'know? (also i'm just super shy... what if he started talking to me...what would i say??! ) it's prolly super foolish but i've convinced myself that i'm going to meet the band in a much more special way than after a show or at the stagedoor. dunno why, but i'm convined .... eep but at the same time, i'd say let the girls have their fun, it'll last for a few years and then they'll realize how embarrassing they're being ( i do not agree with the chasing of the son however... just.....why?!) Fuzz
No, it's not just monetary, but that does play a part, but not the main issue. The theater is performed live, it's not a movie, it's a different flavor, a different animal and really can't be translated well on film. You lose a LOT of what happens in a theater when you attempt to record it and present it. I've seen plays filmed before and I can't even sit through them. It's a very personal form of entertainment to an actor, and it's the direct relationship of the actor onstage and the audience. Urgh. I wish I could explain it better. It's also the idea of the theater being a sacred space. A play/musical really happens for a specific amount of time, in a specific place and has more to do with memory and space and the connection between the actor and audience. Anyway, this helps a bit explain what I'm talking about, though not much. I have an undergraduate degree in theater, and if I did theater still, and someone was filming me while performing, I'd rip their fucking head off. It's almost as bad as hearing a phone go off during a show. I saw Ed Harris in a play at the public a few years ago, and he almost had a conniption fit when a phone went off during the show. The script kinda sucked, and that part was the best of the show, actually. Haha. Anyway, like I said, they understand it, but I think you are misinterpreting why it's annoying to an actor. http://www.fluther.com/47900/can-you-describe-the-experience-of-live-theatre-and-if-you/ That's the kind of stuff that has kept me away from theater. Acting is what I wanted to do while i was in school, and when I got to college and started understanding the scene, which I found pompous and borderline obnoxious, I was completely put off by it. If i was performing and someone felt my performance was good enough that they wanted to remember it by filming it, the last thing I'd do is get upset about it. Who cares if it doesn't transfer to other mediums well? I'm not expecting people to pay to see a shitty recording of a performance. I am not saying the actors in AI are obnoxious, they're all very pleasant people. But I do find tradition in the theater scene is pretty ... irksome. askier4ever
BTW, just to let you guys know, the cast is a bit peeved about all the videos coming out from the show. I don't blame them. They told us that some woman was in the front row at the matinee yesterday filming the entire show from behind her playbill. Billie Joe literally took her camera away from her during the show. I love it. EDIT: And I don't want to start a big discussion about it, but just thought that you all should know. Heh... Very nice, Billie. I also heard that Esper said between "Nobody's Likes You" and "Rock & Roll Girlfriend" to 'Put that fucking thing away.' i sat next to her. i could tell the entire cast noticed it. and i couldn't understand why she couldn't just enjoy the show instead of filming it. right before they sang Good Riddance Billie came over to us and told her to give him her phone and he promised he would give it back. he took it backstage and his guard was supposed to give it back to her after the show. i couldn't figure out what he would want with it but it makes sense now that he probably went and deleted the videos. :eyebrow: just thought I'd throw in what everyone is already saying, Billie was fantastic! the whole show was amazing. i flew out from colorado last minute and it was my first time seeing it. i had front row seats and it was the best decision! MIchael Esper (Will) gave me his pick after good riddance and Billie gave me a big smile. it was so amazing i also talked to most of the cast after both Sunday shows and they're all just such sweethearts. i went with my cousin who lives in new york and shes not really a green day fan but she absolutely LOVED it. she couldn't stop talking about it (neither could i though) and shes trying to convince her boyfriend to take her again. looks like the musical made a new green day fan out of her

Laura!
To be honest, I was expecting very few, if any, videos. I kinda feel bad for the cast, they are on stage giving their everything to put on this amazing musical, and all people are doing is recording. I thought theaters had a strict no camera policy. ScreamsInSilence815
Someone posted a video of Billie doing autographs after the show... I just skipped through it and watched a couple seconds each time, but holy jeez. All you hear it people screaming and constantly there's someone screaming "billie billie billie billie billie". here. Omg. You can see me for a split second at 1:35 in the white shirt (my Dookie shirt xD) The security guy was right in front of me, holding the barriers up and he got in my way of Billie. Abbey.
i gave billie a single rose after good riddance, he gave me the handwritten lyrics to the new song he wrote. i'm pretty much still speechless, it means so much to me that he gave me something so special, and the look on his face as he was handing it to me was just so sweet. you rule. do not lick the paper. or at least wrap it in saran wrap before licking it. kerplunk_chick
i think they should record their final show in january and put it out as a dvd. even include some backstage footage and extras. they would help bring the show to those that can't make it out to nyc to see it and still make a profit after the show ends... i think it's only fair, being one of the unfortunate ones that can't make it to nyc
