Episode 15: Let's Go, Girls

I've been following the podcast from the first episode, and really enjoy listening to them. But the randomness seems to be taking over the entire podcast. I'm hoping for more Green Day-related talk.

It has not been a slow Green Day-week at all, lots of things to talk about with regards to the shows. It makes me a bit worried for future podcasts: how will the ones be when Green Day are having weeks/months off?

Suggestions to keep on track:

-Put more effort into preparing topics

-Invite guests to talk about their Green Day-experiences (like one of the first podcasts)

-Interviews

-More soundbytes

-Do some minor editing (everything in one long take doesn't really suggest keeping things on track)

That being said; I'll probably still be listening to the podcast :)

Thanks for the suggestions (and an even bigger thanks for listening to all 15 episodes), but I have to repeat what Mikey said before - we mentioned up top that this was a "random" episode. Let's not treat this as if it's some new criteria we're going to take for all future episodes.

- We could be more prepared to talk about stuff, but in our defense we do have a list of stories we share that we build up throughout the week, it's not all last minute wandering around the internet.

- I do want more guests. It's just never easy to pick a single person and instead I just avoid it most of the time because I don't personally know most of the people and have no idea whether they'd be good for the podcast or not.

- Not too big on the interviews idea, yet.

- We include relevant sound-bytes when there are some for that week. If there's something more we could be doing, I'd be open to that.

- We do edit the episodes (more accurately, Alex or Matt have edited the episodes). Sometimes very little, sometimes a little more. However, I've mentioned before that I don't really want to edit them too much. This shouldn't be a sitcom with all the crap removed or shitty takes removed. I think that takes away the conversational feel of the podcast. Not just for the listener, but for us. We want it to be a casual conversation about Green Day stuff, not the nightly news with tightly rehearsed segments. Sometimes we end up with the crap liked we did in this episode (which I still enjoyed quite a bit, regardless of the handful of negative feedback). If we started editing stuff out, I feel like it'd lose some of the fun for us, I'd hate for us to be comfortable with the idea that a lot of what we did would end up cut out.

What i've told Alex is that instead of depending on editing in post, we just need to do a better job of making it better while we record. Being aware when we're going too far one way. That said, this episode was not recorded with the intention of being some example that people should hold up on a pedestal of what's wrong with the podcast. We were talking before we started, and instead of stopping and starting the show, we decided to just keep going and let Alex decide where the start and end would be. Some people loved it, some people hated it. Either way, it wasn't some sort of decision to do things differently.

So far, I've noticed that you are the only one ~complaining~ about the way the podcast is ran. Either that, or people aren't speaking up.

Andres is right, I really don't give a crap about whether or not people "like" our topics (or what we talk about)....... WE have fun doing it and as long as it gets downloads, some positive feedback, and we enjoy doing it, we are going to keep on doing it! I don't think the four of us care about our perception (at least I don't).

Awesome episode! There wasn't much GD news, but u guys still entertained me! It's not like u don't get to the news. No need to change anything in my opinion. When Scotty and Clover were with u guys I didn't have a problem knowing who's talking.

Matt, without you I wonder whether or not Mikey, Andres and Alex will remember that they're on a GD podcast! You are the glue that keeps the Static Noise Podcast together!

see this podcast if i remember correctly is supposed to be going on for about or around a year and to see how it goes. now despite the fact that this week was quite eventful in the green day world there's bound to be a few episodes where there's only a few things to mention. this is episode 15 and only 2 episodes have been about nothing at all this one and episode 7. that's only 2 podcasts. now that's a pretty damn good job and even in episode 7 they gave some green day news and talked about butch vig albums. i think as long as we only get one random episode every few weeks there's nothing to worry about but that's just me.

I don't really see anything wrong with the random talk. Obviously Green Day's news is becoming shorter because there aren't many news articles out right now. A podcast is treated like a radio show; music information some part of the time, and conversations the other part. But as far as it being random and having four people talking at once, I think that's what kind of makes the show GDA. You guys are just having a good time recording it and the fun vibe usually transfers to everyone. I think four people is a great set number for the podcast. You guys are all great friends and it really comes off as that. Personally to me, if it was all about Green Day and just reciting the stories that I've already read on GDA, I think it would be incredibly boring and just like every other news show out there. The randomness at least brings life into it and it's different from a normal informative show.

In the morning when I got to school I realised that I forgot to download it before I left so I had to go the whole day waiting to get home and download it but it was well worth the wait :)

I don't think you've read this thread thoroughly. Nobody's saying "We want only green day talk and nothing else!". We're saying there should be more of a balance between the amount of GD and random stuff in each episode. I don't think it's a good thing to have 10% of the podcast being Green Day-related things and the other 90% being random conversation about gay sex, just as I don't think it'd be good to have 10% random conversation and 90% Green Day. Both of those sound extremely boring for me (and for a few others, I'm sure). Now, if there was a 50% - 50%...I think that would be pretty damn good.

i love how dai says her opinion on something and everyone's all saying ASLDADS A GRRRR YOUR WRONG lol. but i agree with dai, i mean i absolutley loved this episode despite the random shit. however i do think if there was just a tad bit more gd info it'd be even better. personally though i think it should be 40% gd and 60% randomness

'Let's go, girls'

:lol::dance::lol:

I really liked this episode. You made me laugh so hard and you have such good chemistry.

On the whole 'random chat' thing, maybe just talk a tiny bit more Green Day? It got a little labourious at times, and I agree with Dai that it is a Green Day podcast.

I loved it though, really, and good luck with next week :)

Mmm dirty. I approve of this episode , and that's all that matters.

LOL I still might get to do Episode 16. But after that... it looks like a very bleak 3 months for me.

I agree with Dai, i dont have a problem with random talk at all, but the gay sex stuff has gone a little far. thats probably not very appropriate considering all the young people who listen to this show. i know you warned the show would be off topic this week but damn. and im not a prude, i like dirty stuff as much as the next guy, i just dont think this is the place for it. also i agree that if this counts as a slow green day week, i wonder whats going to happen when they go on a ? year hiatus.

I was really glad I had my headphones on!! And that was the most random 1 hour podcast ever!! Which I loved! Imagine if it was like the news..just plain and boring..who would listen to it?! And if people don't like it they can just hit stop and quit complaining!! Thanks guys for cheering me up and talking about the project too!!! You guys are awesome! :D

I understand why some people could be annoyed with this episode having too much random talk, personally I feel like the random talk is good and entertaining. But in other episodes the random talk was always somewhat Green Day related (butch vig, get lost and die, she hates my obsession, see you guys in hell, or opinions of Know Your Enemy or singles) but now it seems like it has completely nothing to do with Green Day at all. That being said I really did enjoy this episode, its just that the other episodes, as Dai said, had a lot more balance then this one.

PS:

LOL I still might get to do Episode 16. But after that... it looks like a very bleak 3 months for me.
