Misheard Green Day Lyrics

LaughingClock

Recommended Posts

Read the 21st Century booklet with the album today and noticed a lot of lyrics I had wrong.

Shots ringing out at the holy palisades.

For some reason I always heard..sweet young bella, instead of vendetta. Then, mismerelda, of the night. Just never went through the lyric book word for word before.

Prosthetic Head: I always heard

"And you got noseblood"

instead of

"And you got no reply"

@LaughingClock are you aware that J'net mentioned "RAW HAM" to none other than Green Day themselves during the last part of her interview with them for GDA? How great is that? And "I wore cologne", "broken gnomes", "somebody take my pants I think they're falling off" and "dump truck colour me stupid". I felt this needed mentioning in this thread :D

Funny.

Bille had seen that many years ago though so he either forgot or acted like he did but he was well aware of that thread in like 2010. Funny though.  Some of the greatest lyrics never written came out of it. :)

Is there a recording of the interview? Would love to see it and you look great in the photo @J'net! (NM, I see the audio).

My dad reckons that the first line of Good Riddance is "another turnip boy, a fork stuck in the road."

I mean you literally can't write this shit. Best thread anywhere, ever.

There's audio clips of it included in the post.

I never heard Billie was aware of the thread! How did he come to know about it?

I might have mentioned this before but my favorite misheard lyric is from Ashley. I thought Billie said "Are you crying on Michael Jordan?"

Just listened to it. Funnier hearing Billie sing the "somebody take my pants".  I'm not even kidding when I say I read this thread when I'm in a bad mood. Misheard Green Day lyrics are the best and you can hear Billie's relief that it wasn't going into a mis-interpreted conversation because that would have been the usual canned "everyone makes their own interpretations" answer. They definitely enjoyed that.

Awesome that J'net brought it up. Good stuff!

He was shown it and had a great laugh. It's been 7 years of daily things since then so I am not surprised he forgot although I think it's in the Green Day lexicon after an interview, plus Tre seemed to dig the misheard stuff.  It's funny because they got Raw Ham immediately and then the other stuff made sense. I'll never forget the first person that wrote raw ham. I need to go see who it was. I would be driving down the street and just think of it and laugh. I'm going to look.

I think it was actually Mike that was singing that line,.

There is something that also happens with mishearing lyrics... if you are bilingual you tend to heard some lyrics as they were sang in another language. For instance in some parts of "When I Come Around" it sounds like "Huele a camarón" which translates to "Smells like shrimp".  And with "Jesus of Suburbia - Tales of another broken home" the frase "To run, to run away" my little cousin sings "Turrón, turrón con miel" which translates to "Turron, turron with honey"

And I forgot that when Know Your Enemy came out, I sang the "ra-hey" part or whatever as "raw ham." I was singing it in the car one day and I was like "Do you know your enemy RAW HAM!" My family was confused :pinch:

Ok, Erica was the first to start the Raw Ham lyric and there was an avalanche of followers! It's insanely funny to me for some reason. I think because out of everything it literally makes no sense. Even on its own. Who would ever say "raw ham"? I mean ever.

I mean the only way in life I could see that being said is if somebody had a wrapped piece of brown paper and someone had their hands on it and you would say "don't touch that, its raw ham".  Literally can't think of another time.

Lol! Maybe the enemy is raw ham after all. Maybe Trump ate raw ham as a child and somehow Billie knew this and was being prophetic. "know your enemy, raw ham".

its coming clear now.

OMFG, please tell me you thought WICA has a chorus that said "Smells Like Shrimp". Just lie to me if you didn't. That is just beautiful.

Im afraid to ask what "Smells Like Teen Spirit" translates to (Nirvana).

Holy shit.  I just found a misheard lyric from ME on TDTD from the lyric video.

Unfortunately, it's not nearly as funny as pretty much all of these.  In fact, it's not funny at all.

I thought it said "I was a high school animal", not "atom bomb".

"My name is Howard, I'm the long lost son Born on the fourth of July... "

Whoever's in charge of the green day twitter lyric bot, y'all got some work to do

Either that, or I COMPLETELY missed something,...

I know it's atom bomb but I hear it as animal too. Enunciate, Billie :P

Holiday:

"This is the DINING of the rest of our lives"

instead of

"This is the dawning of the rest of our lives".

Oh wow I also thought it was the more sensible "lost in a tangle" but there it is in the booklet, "tango", how silly
