I don't care
A few weeks ago I was blasting KFAD, and in the heat of the moment I heard "King for a day, incest by dawn" instead of "princess by dawn" and I realized that it makes the song so much more twisted. "Started at the age of four..." Dear god

Easy to misunderstand. I used to think it was "sometimes I wish a polar bear will find me" 😂
Backyard Skulls
Was just reading the unpopular opinions thread and had a little listen to tight wad hill and just realising now that it's not 'dirty tricks for those people one more night', oops! I used to hear the princess by dawn part in King For A Day as 'vengeance by dawn' - my first exposure to that song was through BIAB so
tinamariek4
In "Nice Guys Finish Last" instead of "when you are the outcast", I thought he sang "when you are out of gas".

My favorite thread reemerged and I always laugh my ass off on every one. Im telling you, I still plan on finding out the legal rights to the posts on here. A coffee table book to Green Day fans of this shit is a no brainer. Misheard Green Day lyrics are the funniest because of Billies purposeful often ambiguity in innuncuiation. I would buy this book.

LPbilliejr
It makes no logical sense but sometimes I swear Billie says "armored cannon flame" vs "Armageddon flame" Lol

I think it is the most common but it really doesn't sound like when you run out of gas if you listen to it, when you are the outcast is quite clear. I think it's only because of it saying "nice guys finish last, you're running out of gas" in the first verse, when your brain hears "nice guys finish last..." again in the chorus it expects something about running out of gas next . And if you've also seen it the incorrect way on a lyrics site it doesn't help.

Could you point me towards the time in the song where it sounds like that? I'm interested to hear/judge.

You are correct, he says it in the first verse, but the person who started it didn't say where they heard it. Technically he sings both in the course of the song. You're running out of gas is the 1st verse and the chorus is when you are the outkast.

Regardless of the running out of gas part in the first verse, I always thought it was "when you run out of gas" in the chorus and that's what I STILL hear. Maybe that's what Mike is singing in the chorus while BJ is singing the outcast part and I just hear Mike? I don't hear the "...outcast" at all in the chorus even though the lyrics say that's what I'm hearing lol Dry Ice I always heard "To me it's a pain that's in my heart" instead of "Come ease the pain that's in my heart"

But that's all it sounds like to me so I don't know. And I also hear Dry Ice that way!

It bothers so much for some reason...how can he even do that? It's difficult. The chorus of Nice Guys is absolute mess - the "the outcast" part is barely audible and impossible to sing along to! I can't really tell if that's correct to be honest.
unextraordinarygirl
The second verse in Uptight drives me nuts! I can't for the life of me figure out what he's saying. Here is what I always hear... I got a start on a deadend road. Keep, keep that orange shifting low. Honest to God, that's how I sing it.
