Kaddi.
Seriously... they could have made really awesome videos for all the singles, because all the songs really have a meaning and a story behind them, but all they made were those three pretty lame videos and one good one. It's a pity. Bring back Sam Bayer.
ParadoxAndPlaid
The dancers weren't what pissed me off --- What pissed me off is the way an assload of 'I AM WOMAN HEAR ME ROAR' types started flipping the fuck out about them in comments section of GDA: http://www.greendayauthority.com/news/354/ Jesus fuckin' please us. Don't you love how people suddenly become super-feminists all of the sudden on the Internet?
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love
I think after all is said and done I'll give Marc Webb a B+ for this one. It's nice, it does capture some key themes of the song and the album, but it's not "killer" in the way that 21CB (or even 21 Guns) was. So....thumbs-up in general from me, and a B+ in particular. Good, not great, and a job reasonably well-done. yay for awesome analysis.

darenmay
oh, those blondies...no worries, they are just gloria's friends. she invited them in. =D bcuz gloria is kinda bored living alone. they aren't real, by the way, gloria is only imagining them. bcuz they represent her, in some old ways. but...those dancing blondes are very important. ;D they mean a lot! gloria isn't one of them (anymore?), she's not like them. but they are making gloria do the things they ask her to, they control her. they wake her up, they make gloria 'drown' herself into the tub. they make gloria watch the tv. but those things mean something else! it's like following what are the typical and boring and useless, the life that gloria has already left behind. however, for a start of she being the lotag, gloria listens to music instead. and when she watches the tv, she gets reminded by what she sees: green day, government, and christian. haha! and then at the end, you can see gloria shooting the car, making it explode (that means more than what is seen; there's not turning back now), but this time without the dancing girls around her! gloria made it. she has overcome them. =) she's the last of the american girls lol. and then at the end, she smiles. i know i'm not a good storyteller. lol. but that's how i can see the video. and i like the fact that the blondes do the dancing to make their presence show more meaning and energy (and even entertainment). for one, they aren't just dancing; they do things with their hands and body. WIN. Another awesome analysis. I particularly like your interpretation of the dancers not "really" existing in a literal sense, but being there in a way that subtly/subliminally forces Gloria to do things that are against her own nature. Love your "no turning back now" analysis of the last scene.... and I agree that "getting" the dancers' role in the video is key to understanding it. Gonna go watch it again now with your analysis as background. Thanks for sharing! why couldnt Billie and Tre play the dancers? Put Mike in there with one of the dancers crawling all over him. I want to see another good eye-roll from him like we did at the Grammys!

Moz
meh. i thought that was bizarre, and i didn't really like it. the dancing blonde girls just made me laugh... i understand the message now from these awesome analyses, and i think it was a good idea, but Marc Webb could've done a lot better.
