Last of the American Girls music video

To be honest, there's more Beej in the videos now than in the American Idiot era videos, or am I talking bs right now?

Hmm, I think you're right, but there's a couple things you have to take into account. Like, that the videos for Holiday and BOBD are a different kind of video than the one's they've done for this era (for a big part it's (AI era) not actual performing the song - while this era in all videos they've been performing in all the videos), so then (in case of AI era) you get less of the put the lead singer in there a lot-thing. And the WMUWSE video (the Green Day parts, then, obviously) did have a lot of Billie too, definitely not less than this era. And I think that with the 21stCB video, it's kind of different, because yes, Billie is in there a lot, but it's not very obvious or striking because of all the other things happening and all. Billie is really a lot in the LOTAG video, yeah, and quite a lot in 21 Guns too. Know Your Enemy is spread quite even, I think.

And on the Billie being too much in the video; I guess that's bound to happen. He's the lead singer, and in a video it sort of makes more sense to have the singer in the picture a lot, because they sing the song and all. Not saying I wouldn't like to see the rest of the band in it more, but well, yeah.

Exactly, Billie's the singer. The camera is on him more because his lips are mouthing the words of the song . Although all the bandmember's faces are expressing emotion, seeing someone actually sing the words conveys so much more about the song and gets so much more emotion across.

It's nothing personal, it's just simply better viewing to see the song being sung.

Well the ending is a little cheesy I must say. *Mike and Tre slide in and then slide out* The only bad part of that video

Tbh I'd rather them just not show them then have them awkwardly slide in and then "oh just kidding bye!"

But I absolutely LOVE the video now! It's being played on MTV like 6 times a day and I can't get enough, and I actually don't have a problem with Gloria or the girls like I thought I was gonna :)

okay, and i gonna disagree with you too :P

myself, i dont mind how posy they were in 21 Guns, because i was a kind of idealised situation and they were also kind of... idealised  i still dont get what they were doing in 21CBD...

and yes, well, it is billie's song... when i first watched the video i loooved it, but that part made me flinch :pinch:

It's true that it was idealized and all, but as far as character development goes, or really emotions, they kind of lacked it. Lisa Stelley did a pretty good job with the screaming and all, but other then that, I didn't get that whole Christian and Gloria connection, for lack of a better explanation. There really was no chemistry, which you'd think would be very important considering the fact that the two characters are also ideas that are supposed to go hand in hand.

21st Century Breakdown is definitely the best of this bunch, and honestly, I think it's way up there in the amazing Green Day videos over all of these years. That one pays a lot more attention to the music and lyrics over the other videos without making it too ridiculous. Whatever little flaws there were didn't bother me much at all, if at all, and I fucking LOVE the ending of that video. Were you referring to Christian and Gloria? I think in that, they were just giving you a brief explanation of their "place" in the overall scheme of things. I think the video kind of helps summarize the entire theme and message of the album, which can help for those confused on the fact that there is no actual end, and that the album is more like commentary on what is going on in the present (or past...yeah).

This was already explained, thankfully, but Gloria singing along just showed that she listens to music and she likes, you know, to sing along. Don't you? I do. I suck at singing, but still.

I just thought it was cool how she moved her head and all, as minor of a moment that is.

My thought exactly, the singer holds the communication in a band, the message of the song gets through him, so I wouldn't complain about that :)

Anyway I got the chance to see the video twice this morning and I wouldn't say that Billie Joe has an exaggerated amount of close ups compared with Mike and Tre, maybe Tre is kind of left aside but Mike has a fair amount of shots.

I agree with you on all of that.

That was indeed a lacking of the 21 Guns video. There's no chemistry, there aren't really any emotions in there (despite Gloria getting mad, if I recall it right (haha, I really should watch the videos more ), there still weren't any strong emotions). It just doesn't do the song justice.

And on the singing along thing, I like that too, it's not like she's singing the song instead of Billie (like Whatsername does in the disaster that is the Whatsername video), it's just singing along because she's listening to nice music.

I like the video, liked it straight away. As far as some complaints I've read both pre-and post release, I will say this, I can sort of understand fans not digging the girls (including Gloria). While it doesn't bother me, the main issue I have with that is that it takes away from the band, I mean, Gloria is in no way more entertaining than just watching Green Day do what they do best, and the actress always looks bland and nonplussed--I can't imagine that being intentional for the character. But no biggie, the video works well enough for the song. And I am shocked and awed at "too much Billie"---how is that possible? I know, I know, Green Day will always be the ultimat threesome :eyebrow: , but Billie is such an electrifying frontman, I can't look away. The more the better! Less everyone else, more Green Day is always a good rule of thumb!
