JHyena86
<gasp> I love the ballad of Wilhelm Fink, and coincidentally, next week I'll be staying at the Berkeley Marina ("said that I'd meet'cha" ).Please share that one, too ... <begs> ...Oh the irony, lol. And of course I will.
Bastard of 1967
I have to be in the mood for it. It's very different. I have to be in the mood for a story to want to listen to it. In a way, Peacemaker reminds me of Misery, with the folk music aspect. Like you want to do some kind of ethnic dance or something. That's exactly what I was trying to say in my earlier post, thanks for crystallizing it.How much snow you getting where you are?So much more appropriate now.Indeed. We gotsa get you a clustered SQL server for your back-end one of these days. [Translation for everyone else: that's geek-speek for how one might keep the forum online during major maintenance or if something craps out! :geek: ]I was thinking more like "Fiddler on the Roof" ethnic dancing, but OK. Spongebob can dance to it. Ok, Ok, now I have this image of Ted Bikel kicking a piece of trash down the street, looking down with his hands in his pocket, and muttering this song to himself in that thick, old-world ethnic Jewish dialect that he pulls off so damn well. Exactly the opposite of the feeling that "Tradition" gives you, and much, much darker than "If I Was a Rich Man"!
the48maychick
For a long time this was the only song I deliberately listened too from that album, I don't know why exactly but it just had something that captured my attention.I have grown past it now and don't listen to it very often, but it is a great song to sing along to. I like that it doesn't sound like a "rock" song, I enjoy having something different pop up when I'm listening to Green Day on my iPod.

cherylr
"Misery" = digging the car out of THIS tomorrow afternoon:Yep, we're in Alexandria, Virginia, and we're getting decked by a monster Nor'easter.... already about 9" on the ground and they're saying we could have over two feet by tomorrow afternoon. It ain't powder either, it's that heavy, wet shit that gives you all sorts of fun things like backaches, hernias, heart attacks, etc. when you try to lift it.And like some folks I do too hear echoes of this song on 21st Century Breakdown, not just in Little Girl (Billie expresses a similar dark, metaphor-filled, storytelling-like lyrical style in both songs) but also in Peacemaker (the mandolin adds to both songs a comparable Greek/Gypsy feel).I think I'll sing it to myself when I'm digging out the car tomorrow. It might help!Gypsy feel, yeah.... I have over two feet of snow and it's still snowing. It's well over my dog's head. What do people in Minnesota do, just not have small dogs? It's just odd for this area to get two storms like this in one season. We had 23" just before Christmas. That one didn't get quite the hype of this one. We're calling this one "snowpocalypse". Juliette
There used to be a video on Youtube from a student group or something that chose making a video for Misery as their project, it was pretty good. If I recall it right, it was like a cartoon, but clearly handdrawn.I wouldn't know how to find it though, no idea what it was called, plus Warner have probably removed it anyway.Yeah, doesn't really add anything to the topic, but I just remembered it.Yeah I remember that video, was really good. I don't think it's on youtoob any more though cause it used to be the 1st hit if you searched for it :/ stupid warner.Of course I will I'm actually animating the Ballad of Wilhelm Fink for a class. My first step into 2D animation. Ever since reading Billie say somewhere that this song was inspired by Disney/Kids movies I've wanted to see someone make a video for this song, so I figure it might as well be me. It'll translate well I think.Ohmigosh, I'd love to see that
minorty13
This might have been one of the first songs I heard of of a Green Day album besides 21st and AI It reminded me of Peacemaker which is one of my favorites so I bought the song and later looked into the rest of the album and POOF! Here I am with every Green Day song and hopefully ever B-side ever released It's funny how quickly I got into them thanks to the obsession of my friend Amy(luckystar13)

That one didn't get quite the hype of this one. We're calling this one "snowpocalypse".Total was about 29" in Alexandria. Absolutely unbelievable...we were finally able to get out to restock the groceries earlier today, and thank GOD our power held up....we lost it for about a half-hour on Saturday afternoon before the storm ended, but many others we know fared much worse. Now they're talking about another 8-12" by Wednesday night. I've had it, I'm moving to the Bahamas!
