My sister and I always thought he'd just decided to invent a mental random word and say it for no reason, it always made us laugh when we heard/sang it. Now we know.Made me chuckle!!! So this morning, I was eating breakfast in a hotel in Philadelphia, and there was a woman behind me talking on her cell phone in French. She talked quite a while (side note: I was gratified by how much I understood). Then she said very clearly, "Salud." After that, she stopped talking for a long time, and then I heard her phone ring and she said "Allo?" So, I realized that she used Salud when finishing her call (it does mean "health" though or "to your health." That's why it's used when people sneeze or make toasts or whatever...).The French also say "A votre sante" or "Sante" to mean "to your health" or just "health" so I'm thinking Salud is probably a Spanish word that they adopted first for toasting and it's now become common usage. All beautiful languages!I love the way Billie uses Salud in such a subtle way in All the Time. Except for the phrases "Here's to me" and "Down the hatch" there are no real references to drinking except this one at the end of each verse.
