Most modern music sucks, so the award shows do too. The very few good modern bands/artists that get recognized are the reason we have to sit through hours of mind-numbing bullshit a couple days out of the year. I wish modern music was good so I would have more of a variety of things to listen to, and so it wouldn't be like pulling teeth just to watch one little award show.

^ Award shows never have anything to do with quality. More than anything it's a freaking popularity contest, it's ridiculous.

Haha, pulling teeth. :D

I get what you mean, though. A lot of modern/mainstream music does suck.

^ Twilight really killed my Paramore liking. I used to like them a lot, and now they just kind of annoy me. IDK what it is about it that bothers me so much, but whatever.

 Yep, I'm the same way! And I'm worried that because the group has a new album coming out later in the month, MTV will give them the award just to help promote that album.

But then I keep telling myself "oh but it would be such a waste to have a band perform and not win anything they're nominated for", so I don't know!

MCR performed at the 2005 awards and they didn't win the award they were nominated for.

Don't ask me how I remember that. :ninja:

If Green Day isn't actually at an award show, it doesn't bother me as much when they don't win. But when they're there, sitting in the audience... it kills me to see them lose. I'm just like . They ALWAYS deserve an award in my book!

Seeing this tomorrow. I really can't wait to see them on TV again.

But I don't know, every time I see Green Day live, I become sad and start wanting to see them in person again, haha.

Yeah, but if all modern bands were good, the idea of what made something popular would change. And then the modern definition of popularity would change. Because nowadays, most bands that are considered popular suck, imo. And Green Day and other bands that are actually good don't get recognized nearly as much as they deserve.

I just think that award shows are the biggest representation of how terrible modern music has become. They are handing awards to bands and artists that don't write their own music, can hardly sing, etc. It makes you misunderstand the concept of what being an artist means.

I'm tired so I don't know if I'm making sense.

I'm posting this here just cause I don't know where else to put it. But watch the first 20ish seconds of this video

Cool . :) But that video just pissed me off because it reminded me... yet again... that the Touch doesn't get a video camera, but the fucking Nano does.

Anyways, back on topic. The discussion of Paramore is interesting. I don't mind them, but I'll be pissed if they win just because the *sparkle*Twilight*sparkle* fans voted for them.

Sarahnade - I agree with you completely. I can't stand to listen to most stuff that's considered to be "popular music" right now. A lot of it is awful and so overhyped.

I especially agree with "And Green Day and other bands that are actually good don't get recognized nearly as much as they deserve." You're absolutely right, they don't. Most of the bands I like are sorely overlooked.

To be honest, it wouldn't surprise me if Paramore won. Most MTV worshippers don't look beyond the channel or the current fad to find good music, and like everyone else is saying, it's really a popularity contest, not a music talent contest. It's just sad that Green Day influenced a good lot of these bands, and they're not even getting the recognition they deserve for it.

But, then again, at this point, Green Day are Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame-bound, so really a stupid little moonman won't matter. :)

That's the kind of thing that reminds me why I love Green Day so much.

That article for some reason made me tear up (just a little bit). They're such cool guys, they're just so... not like everyone else. As the article said, rehearsals are usually consider more of a chore than anything, so the fact that they played to lighten the mood of the crew was so sweet.

I agree. This is MTV. We're not talking about voters with a sense of music. After all, look at the categories and who're being nominated. Lady Gaga and Beyonce?

It'd be almost more of an insult for them to win a moonman than to not.

hahaha that little video on there. "That's the way I like it! Woo! It's a Green Day show now"

That video was great! It sounded like they bleeped something outta there, lol. "It's a *bleep*ing Green Day show now!"

I still hold out hope that the VMAs are rigged and MTV loves them enough to give them the award. Unless they love Paramore more. :/
