MassHysteria
Anybody know how long it took for American Idiot to sell gold?American Idiot was given the Gold Certification on 11/10/2004Just as an FYI, RIAA certifications breakdown into four groups, all of which Green Day has achived:500,000 units: Gold album.1,000,000 units: Platinum album.2,000,000 or more units: Multi-Platinum album.10,000,000 units: Diamond album. The albums 1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours, Kerplunk!, Dookie, Insomniac, Nimrod, International Super Hits, International Supervideos, Warning, American Idiot, and 21st Century Breakdown all have Gold Certifications (so the only ones not to make it were Shenanigans and Bullet In A Bible).Green Day also has five singles that reached Gold, Good Riddance, American Idiot, Holiday, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, and Wake Me Up When September Ends. The only Green Day album to ever make it to Diamond was Dookie. Here's a list of the current status of each album:1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours: Gold as of 06/28/1995Kerplunk!: Platinum as of 08/08/2003Dookie: 10x Multi platinum as of 02/08/1999Insomniac: 2x Multi Platinum as of 02/27/1996Nimrod: 2x Multi Platinum as of 03/16/2000Warning: Gold as of 12/01/2000International Super Hits: Platinum as of 09/08/2005International Supervideos: Platinum as of 12/12/2008American Idiot: 5x Multi Platinum as of 07/17/200621st Century Breakdown: GoldAnd here is a list of the current single standings:Good Riddance: Gold as of 03/14/2005American Idiot: Gold as of 02/21/2005Holiday: Platinum as of 08/18/2008Boulevard of Broken Dreams: Gold as of 02/21/2005 (they actually have this listed as having two separate gold certifications)Wake Me Up When September Ends: Platinum as of 08/18/2008You can take a look at all of this data HERE. MassHysteria
because of the fact that most people download now, that is a massive achievement. so proud of them Indeed, though the number does include sales on iTunes and Amazon. But yeah in the days of Limewire and BitTorrents, it is an accomplishment to sell those through any medium. It makes me think that getting a Diamond certification would be almost impossible though. Nzap
heh, in Finland this album went gold in the first 10 hours, though it only had to sell 10000 copies to get there (we only have 5.3 million people living here) and it sold 13500 in the first 10 hours.Nice of them to get to gold, in the time of warez or whatever it is, anyways illegal downloading, being very high.Does anyone know if this is only for solid albums, or is it also the digital ones?Nice Job!! Manufacturer's dollar volume at least $1 million based on 33 1/3% of sugg. list price.* May combine sale of all configurations.* Enhanced CDs must contain at least 75% of audio content of regular CD.Despite what I said earlier, there seems to be a separate certification for digital download sales. So this could be a Gold for either Digital Sales, or for "Standard" (which is CDs, Vinyls, or Cassettes).
