Holy... fuck.

I just got done listening to 21st Century Breakdown, without stopping. I... I can't even describe it. It was... amazing. (And... I'm not a 21stCB virgin anymore!)

Here's my review of 21st Century Breakdown:

Song Of The Century - Billie's vocals are deadly beautiful in this song. I love the radio type of static, as well. It adds a nice effect to the song.

21st Century Breakdown - I thought 21st Century Breakdown was great. I compaired the demo to this version, and I have to admit, I like the final version better. While I still preferred, 'From Mexico to the Berlin Wall' better than 'Videogames to the tower's fall', I still found it great. I love the addition of the 'I swallowed my pride and choked on my faith' part.

Know Your Enemy - This was, of course, the 1st single. And I like it. I think this would be great to sing along to at a GD concert. I know that it would pump me up for the rest of the concert.

!Viva La Gloria! (Sorry, I can't do one of those upside down exclamation points...) - The piano intro is beautiful, and with Billie's vocals, it's taken to a new level. You can really tell the emotion that Bilie pours into this album from this song, as well as others on the album. (And I'll mention those as they come along.)

Before The Lobotomy - The guitar intro is sweet. And like I mentoned on !Viva La Gloria!, you can tell the amount of emotion that Billie puts into this album. And it shows. I actually got a tiny bit teary eyed at the slow part of the song, but not like I did on other songs on this album. The quicker part is pretty cool. I love the drum playing on this song. Tre' did an awesome job on this song, as well as the rest of the album. I love the 'I'm not stoned, I'm just fucked up. I'm so high I can't stand up. I'm not cursed 'cause I've been blessed, I'm not in love 'cause I'm a mess' part.

Christians Inferno - The drumming in the beginning reminded me of Maria for some reason. And as soon as I heard Billie's vocals and Mike's bass kick in, I thought, "This sounds like this could be a track from a The Network CD." The 'woah, Christians Inferno' part is pretty nice. And Billie's laughing in this song is both slightly funny and disturbing.

Last Night On Earth - Remember how I mentioned that there were songs on this album that got me teary? Well, this was one of them. I don't even know what in the hell happened. I just started getting teary during the chorus, and before I knew it, I had tears running down my cheeks. Now, if I had someone other than family and friends that I cared about, I could understand the logic behind the tears. But, I've never in my life felt like that. And I doubt I ever will, because I'm a loner. I guess I was just destined to be alone forever. Anyways... Billie's vocals are, once again, very beautiful. And the softness of this song goes great with BJ's vocals. And the piano is stunningly pretty.

East Jesus Nowhere - Thank God (no pun intended) this song was created. It's fucking AMAZING. If this doesn't become a single, I'll be shocked. This song is amazing. The lyrics are what get me the most. They are 100% true. And once again, the drumming in this song is awesome. Total props to Tre'. And Mike's bass playing is pretty sick. I like it a LOT. This song shouts out what SO many peope think but never say. BJ's whispering in this song is really cool. It's creepy, but still awesome. The 'yeah' at the end is cool. It reminds me of how BJ stretched out 'Holiday' at the end of Holiday.

Peacemaker - The lyrics in this song go FAST. So, losing your place when you sing this song will royally fuck you over. The guitar in this song in cool. It makes me think of Mexico for some reason. 'Vendetta, sweet vendetta' is an awesome part to this song. It makes me think of Misery for some reason.

Last Of The American Girls - This song seems like it could be the sister of She's A Rebel. The bass playing in this song got my attention. Overall, this is a nice song. It has this sort of 'rebellious, mellow' vibe to it. At least, it does to me. The 'radio waves' at the end are cool. Sorry, I really don't know what they are. But I like them. xD

Murder City - This is a nice song. It's sort of ironic because it sounds sweet, when the lyrics are actually kinda dark. Not as dark as other lyrics on this album, but still dark enough. The guitar solo is really good. I love the 'We are the last call, and we're so pathetic' part.

?Viva La Gloria? (Little Girl) (Sorry, but I can't do the upside down question mark...) - This song makes me feel smug, because I know this mother fucker who lied to me, and this song makes me think of the effects for this person. And I hope this person feels the same way as these lyrics describe. Anyways, the 'You dirty lier. You're just a junkie, preaching to the chior' part is my personal favorite.

Restless Heart Syndrome - The symphony at the beginning adds an elegant touch to, in my opinion, the darkest song on this album. The lyrics are a mirror of what a lot of people struggling with drug problems probably feel. 'I think they found another cure, for broken hearts and feeling insecure. You'd be surprised what I endure. What makes you feel so self-assured?' part is a favorite lyric of mine. Not just on this song, but on this ENTIRE album. I hope this is made into a single, along with East Jesus Nowhere. This song is, overall, hauntingly beautiful. It's one that I don't think ANYONE can ever forget. The guitar is this song is awesome, and adds to the haunting feel.

Horseshoes and Handgrenades - I really like this song. This is another song that would (and will) fire me up at a Green Day concert. (July 22nd, baby!) The lyrics are impressive, and really fun to sing along to. It has an obvious 'Fuck you, I'm doing what I want, and I don't give a shit what you think' feel to it. And Billie's screaming in this song? Fucking. EPIC.

The Static Age - I like the chorus in this song most. It's awesome.

21 Guns - A lot of people have said that this song made them teary eyed. This didn't really do that to me, to be honest. Maybe it will in the future. But nonetheless, it's still an awesome song.

American Eulogy - Wow. This once left me... speechless. It was really good. Lyrically, this song is a genius.

See The Light - This song closes out 21st Century Breakdown. It has a touch of hope in it. The message is true, and scary, as well. I mean, everybody's future does rely on fate, and that's a hell of a scary thought. But there's nothing we can do about it. All we can do is brace ourselves for the future and... hope for the best.

Overall? This album exceeded my expectations by a long shot. This is an amazing album that everybody can relate to in at least one way. Whether it's being sick and tired of the bullshit lies and deception of religion, going through hell with drug problems, or just wanting to make it out of this post-Bush era with something - anything - left to their name, this album can simply 'click' with everybody.

I was going to buy mine today

I had 20 bucks extra from my paycheck that I didnt have to put towards rent

I went to work

I come home, I see my boyfriend smoking

I say, "hey there, how did you get those cigarettes?

He says

"guess what? I found $20, oh and I got some soda"

I am still debating what to do with his body

I got the deluxe edition from Amazon, and I ordered it with Prime so it came this morning! :D

However, the new postman was a little late and I think I nearly gave him a heart attack when I opened the door and virtually screamed in his face.

I don't think he likes me.

I've basically been listening to it on repeat for twelve hours, and Peacemaker is now the most played song on my iTunes... yeah. ;D

I'll post a review tomorrow when I'm not half asleep (but fighting to listen to it one last time). :P

I went to Target this morning and could not find it, although there was this huge sign for it. I asked the girl if they had it and she looked but couldn't find it. She said hang on and went to the back, then she came out with the two cd version. I was so happy they had it and it was on sale for $12 instead of $16.

Loving this album front to back.

The artwork in the Best Buy version is amazing.

Is it the same than the artwork in the special edition that is released worldwide?

Even though I had previously downloaded it, I still went out and bought the CD today from FYE. (:

I'm a little disappointed that they didn't have the Special Edition, though. Meh. I'll find it somewhere else.

just had my first listen. I only bought the regular CD because the special edition was a fucking rip-off.

Anyways.

I don't know what everyone doesn't like about Peacemaker, because I find it brilliant. It's hilarious. Very Warning era. I like the little spanish ending there.

Horseshoes & handgrenades has a piece that sounds very "twist & shout." It has the exact same melody. Kind of strange...

I adore last night on earth. It's so...not Green Day.

Restless heart syndrome makes me think of Novocaine & Christian's Inferno makes me think of St.Jimmy. Lyrically, not musically.

I FREAKING LOVE the piano intro to Viva La Gloria. I can't explain how much I enjoy the addition of piano to this album.

I also love how there's way more guitar solo on this one.

Some ideas & riffs are way too familiar (to american idiot ones) but overall a great album!

Okay, I'll probably come back, but those are my initial reactions.

I adore it too . I know what you mean but it's funny you say that, because this song really makes me think of early Green Day. Even though the sound is different it has those straight-up romantic lyrics just like back in the 39/Smooth times, I love the simplicity in both.

And the line "I walked for miles til I found you" makes me think of 2000 Light Years Away. I think it's pretty cool he'd be writing that same sentiment about the same person after all this time, such a sweet song.

yeah I was totally thinking of Kerplunk! when I listened to it. But, musically, it's so different.

Also, this Best Buy special edition is only $17? It was $30 at HMV, so I bought the regular one for $15.

FRICK I WANT SPECIAL EDITION. but I am poor.

I just listened to 21th Century Breakdown for the first time. I pre-ordered it off of itunes two weeks ago. The album was f***ing awesome and my favorite songs were "Last Night On Earth" and "Peacemaker". It was great to hear them cover one of my favorite non-Green Day songs "A Quick One While He's Away".

How long is the Target Special Edition available to buy? I want to know because I might buy it for that live bonus disc, even though I have the album (21cb) from itunes. Is it at Target stores or just on the internet? I have a Target gift card so it would be nice if it was at the store.

The limited edition is ONLY sold at Best Buy in the US. No other stores carry it. That is, if you mean the 52 Pg Book edition.

The 6 live songs are from American Idiot. Nothing special, like I hoped it would be.
