Which one is better? 21st Century Breakdown or American Idiot? You decide!

I'd have to say 21CB.

Just because of the whole storyline.

It's so much deeper and complicated then AI.

Even I fell in love with Green Day when I heard AI.

I appear to be the minority when I say I like American Idiot a lot more. Don't get me wrong, 21CB is an amazing record. But it feels too...layered, too glossy. I like it a lot, but I prefer stripped down Green Day sound. If American Idiot had come out after 21CB, I'd have said it was the best of both worlds: the ambition and scope of 21CB with the raw sound of Green Day's earlier albums.

21CB isn't overproduced, because I think the level of production works perfectly for the album. I just prefer the sound and songs of American Idiot.

The first thing I did after listening to 21st Century Breakdown for the first time was playing American Idiot on fullblast volume. I think that says enough.

i think this poll started shortly after 21st CB came out... so people very eager to vote 21st CB because it was new and special.. I love 21st CB but i think if this poll was made in 2 years, the results might be a lot closer than they are now...people would get used to 21st CB like we are used to AI...

its close, im not sure which i like more.. They are very different from eachother... im glad green day has made both albums!

I like AI overall don't get me wrong, but Are We the Waiting and Wake me up when september ends are amongst the worst songs Green Day has ever made. There is not a single bad song on Breakdown. I would put the album up there with Dookie and Warning as one of their best (although Insomniac and Nimrod and 1039 SOSH are all very close as well). It is like they took the general style of AI and perfected it with Breakdown.

I still have no idea. >.< I can't pick one! I mean, there's the world's best fucking songs: JOS, Homecoming, Letterbomb, St. Jimmy, WMUWSE, Holiday, Give Me Novacaine-- on AI, but then there's Peacemaker, EJN, RHS, 21 Guns, Christian's Inferno, LNOE, 21st Century Breakdown, Viva La Gloria-- on 21CB.....they both have incredible, incredible songs, and I can't choose. I could never pick a favorite Green Day album, I love them all wayyyyy too much.

ack, I don't know! AI was freaking AMAZING. I feel like it came along just in time to pull together an entire generation in protest against the BS being put forth by GWB. It woke a lot of people up, and brought a lot of people together. It was an amazing accomplishment, particularly for a band who had been known for singing about masturbation and inciting mud fights.

However, I find myself in love with a higher number of songs off of 21CB, and it's made me all Green Day obsessed focused again, like when I first heard them.

I think I need more time with this CD before I decide for sure.

Think I'm always going to love American Idiot the most. It was the album that got me into Green Day, so its always going to be special to me

And what I used to love about Green Day, was how they weren't a lovey dovey band, but then I felt 21CB was too "I love you" and "You broke my heart", which lost me a bit

I voted for 21CB..And that's because I believe that after that huge success that came with American Idiot,their new album should make the difference and make the same if not a bigger success,which is quite hard..And the guys made it.. It is,in my opinion a more complete work with strong(er) songs etc..

I can't decide because AI was the first album I heard from GD.And I've got in love with it and with band and it was an amazing feeling.So it'll always be more meaningful for me.

That's just how I describe them! I've been askedif 21CB is any good, and the only thing I said was, "It's beautiful." It just is. And AI is amazingly epic, it still is after 5 years! My friend and I were talking about Green Day, and the first thing she said was, "It's just so epically epic!" So I think you've got it right!

american idiot is way better in my opinion, i think 21st century breakdown is a pile of shit, there are some good songs on it (the itunes bonus tracks and a few songs on the actual album), but american idiot is alot better and always will be.

The funny thing about this record is that I loved it when it leaked and I still love it but some songs really pissed me off those being, Restless Heart Syndrome, American Eulogy, See The Light, and Last of The American Girls. But over time I fucking love all 4 of them. It took me a while to realize it but they were greater than I thought.

I love both records but I have to be honest and say 21st CB I've had a month to think about it and so far it's still 21st CB I'll see what I think in 6 months.

But for me, the one thing that AI will always have over 21stCB, is my emotional attachment to it.

The songs on 21stCB are just... songs.

The ones on American Idiot mean much more to me and will always hold a special place in my heart.

I voted for American Idiot. I love 21stCB, don't get me wrong. But AI holds a bigger spot in my heart for multiple reasons. For one thing, AI was the album that got me into GD. Without AI, I probably wouldn't have became a GD fan, and I probably wouldn't be the same person that I am today. And not only that, but I wouldn't have come across GDA and GDC, and I wouldn't have come across you lovely people. (Sorry, I don't mean that to come off as... PedoBear-ish... ) And not only that, but AI was the album that got me through some really rocky points in my life. Also, if it wasn't for AI, I probably wouldn't have gotten into rock/alternative/punk-ish music. I probably would have been sentenced to a life of loving whatever was on the Top 40 list. And with a list of music like the Jonas Brothers, Britney Spears, Jordan Sparks, Miley Cyrus, Lil' Wayne, Lady GaGa, Katy Perry, and Taylor Swift dominating the charts... it's a creepy thought to think about the music I would be listening to, and it's even creepier to think about missing out on another world of awesome music that I wouldn't have been introduced to if it wasn't for AI.
