Okay I've been listening to 21CB all week and it's grown on me, it is brilliant and better than AI... musically.

AI still has sentimental value to me that 21CB can't replace.

I think people prefer 21st CB because now it's innovation, the new of green day, yeah for me too

At the moment 21st Century Breakdown, but that could change after a while, when it's become more one of Green Day's albums then yay a new album I love it :woot:.

The way I look at it now, I prefer 21st Century Breakdown

I loved American Idiot, don't get me wrong, but...I think that 21st Century Breakdown is, hands down, better than American Idiot.

At the moment it's 21st Bentury Breakdown.

I think I even can't say why. It just has more " :woot: " moments as AI right now.

American Idiot. Definitely. No offense, but you can't beat American Idiot.

21CB is still new to me even though it's amazing in every way. But AI has some sort of sentimental meaning to me and it was the era I got into Green Day so I'm going to choose AI.

Me, too. I dont know which I prefer, but I cant remember myself before AI. O_O It's deffo something sentimental to me, looking back on my middle school/pre-teen days.

At first, I wanted to continue to say American Idiot, but now... after listening to 21st Century Breakdown so much, I've got to go with that. American Idiot is definitely not far behind it, but... I really love all the variety in the new album, and the progression the guys have made.

21st Century Breakdown amazed me, and at the same time scared the living piss out of me because it really shows what they are capable of. Every album is different: Compare Kerplunk! to American Idiot, and it doesn't sound the same at all. Hell, you can even compare American Idiot to 21st Century Breakdown, and you'll still sense a difference between the two concept albums.

American Idiot is a noteworthy album, but to me it just seems like 21st Century Breakdown is like this: Nirvana had Nevermind, The Beatles had Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and now Green Day has their magnum opus: 21st Century Breakdown.

In AI, most of the songs were only ok (pretty good, but nothing too special), but songs like JoS, Homecoming, Letterbomb, WMUWSE, and Whatsername made the album great as a whole. The ok songs were outweighed by those songs.

Every song in 21CB more than just "ok", but no song standed out too much (East Jesus Nowhere comes close though) because 90% of the songs were similar in quality (which isn't really a bad thing). So for some reason, that didn't make as big an impression on me than AI did.

I think for me, AI seems more like IS spoken from a personal viewpoint while CB21 seems more like it is a story told by someone else.

That's not really true, but it feels like it for some reason.

I have a feeling that in a month or something, my views are prob gonna change. I just haven't had the time to throughly listen to the album as a whole without skipping the songs around. So I dunno.

21st Century Breakdown's more consistent, but the standouts on AI are better than the standouts on 21CB. In conclusion, I don't know.

I'm not a huge fan of American Idiot, however, I prefer it over 21stCB because I love JoS/St.Jimmy character and how he developed throughout the cd/story. The songs that made me like that album was JoS, St.Jimmy, Letterbomb and Homecoming. If it weren't for those songs, I would have gladly chosen 21stCB hands down. Although, 21CB does have fantastic songs, I'm still building my intimacy relationship with them first. :P

But ultimately, it's such a difficult decision. It's hard to compare their albums.

American Idiot. I don't think any album will ever surpass it for me.

Even if there was something new that was "technically" better, American Idiot just holds so many memories and emotions...it was the soundtrack of my highschool years.

I'm surprised that almost twice as many people are voting for 21st Century Breakdown than American Idiot though.

UGH this is so hard.... It really is. I'm not gonna say 21st CB annihilated AI but I do think he kicked it off the mountain. They are each are amazing albums and defiantly might be the bands creative high. They each have classics on them. Each have wonderful stories and great lyrics and compositions. But 21st CB seems to take that AI idea and throw it up to the next level. They really accomplish a lot of things on this record and they also do that for AI.

The best experience I've had is listening to them both from AI to 21st CB. They blend together really well. Not in a American Idiot part 2 kind of way but a kick ass sequel to a kick ass movie kind of way.

So basically AI holds a special place in my heart but 21st CB is better.

21CB is as good if not better than American Idiot.

But AI wins because it had so much levity behind it with making the band relevant again, huge rock saving success, and it being a complete surprise to me.

I know this album will make some people feel the same way I did AI, so it might win for them, dunno. Still a wicked record.

American Idiot because it's just the album of my youth. And 21stCB doesn't contain a legendary song like JoS in my opinion. That doesn't mean 21stCB isn't a really great album, because it is.

Singles?

Know Your Enemy

21 Guns

East Jesus Nowhere

Before the Lobotomy

They'll probably throw in Restless Heart Syndrome too. And/Or American Eulogy.

Pretty much the songs they let some radios preview.

I didn't vote and I won't.

American Idiot is the album I listened to when I started to think about what's going on around me, about society, politics, people etc. and when I kinda found out who I am. So it had a huge influence on me back then and it was and still is an important part of my life. It helped me through hard times and it introduced me to Green Day who are still my favorite band and who changed my taste in music.

The day 21st Century Breakdown was released, I was so happy since I waited for about 5 years for it to come. It's a great album with great songs, but I didn't expect something else.

Well, I'm 18 now, so the time I was in when AI was released is over. Nevertheless, two days after the release date, my whole life was turned upside-down and I was confronted with huge personal problems. I know, it's just an album and I shouldn't expect too much, but I'm glad that I have it and it may help me to get through the hard times now.

I can't really say which one I prefer... not yet. They both have awesome songs, so that's not the criterion my decision will be finally based on, for me it will be the emotional connection to the album.
