Which one is better? 21st Century Breakdown or American Idiot? You decide!

AI, I like all the songs on that album, I don't like all the songs on 21st Century Breakdown.

They can't be perfect but 21cb is amazing

I think American Idiot is better. The songs are more powerful, though I like 21stCB really much, because a lot of the songs start soft and then go harder. Voted for American Idiot, but I think the new Album has to grow on me.

I personally don't think you could fairly decide, having only listened to 21CB a few times, but yet having listened to AI since 2004.

I think they are equally good. While AI has a higher percentage of quality songs, 21CB has more songs hence a greater chance of failure. IMO, take Peacemaker out of the equation and 21CB is slightly better.

Breakdown is ... its too early to say a thing but im saying it again some of songs are really powerful awsomeness but most of songs are too soft but lyrics are good than AI a little bit i mean awsome

I'm really enjoying 21CB. It's so lush and dynamic. It's nice to be able to listen to an album once and fall completely head over heels like I did with American Idiot.

I appreciate American Idiot for opening doors.

But I applaud 21CB for being less kick ass and more meaningful.

For me it's 21st cbd. The only song i'm not fond of is The Static Age because it's a Church on Sunday rip off. The rest is just pure greatness, There is so much going on this time around. So much variety. Billie's voice has improved a lot and the production of the songs are just a million times better than on AI.

AI was a great album, but most of it's appeal came because of the timing it was released. It just came out at the right time. Musically 21 cbd is miles ahead of AI.

It's hard to compare tow albums but there ar some point that I think you'd better know.

First of all, AI is an album that I still listen 2 it every day. And it's an album that I love all of its songs.

But 21CB is an album that I don't like all of it's songs but 21 Guns is a song that I call it an incredible work of art. I'm not an emotional person but I must confess that after listening 2 it for the first time I was extremely amazed by the tears falling down my face. best GD song ever.

And East Jesus Nowhere is a real rebel song in my opinion and I adore it. And VIiva La Gloria is a real punk rock song that I DIE FOR IT.Totaly I must say that 21CB is an step forward for the band and It's better than AI.

this is a really hard decision, seeing that both plots are almost identical:

in american idiot, Jimmy is analyzing his world, and decides to leave it. he's livin' it up in the city, but then begins to question his existence. He turns into a tougher guy and gets tangled into drugs and violence, but then meets Whatshername and she's just like the greatest thing ever in his eyes. She grows tired of his bullshit and they break up. he continues on trying to find himself and it ends with him going back home and reflecting on the relationsip with whathername.

21stCB i'm still trying to figure out. i think it starts off with the setting of both gloria & christian looking at how the world and society is, and basically saying it sucks. they end up finding eachother and Christian confesses his love for her. She's bringing out the best in him, and he's realizing who he's been vs who he wants to be...until he finds out she's not as innocent and "glorious" as she seems to be. they both have a drug problem (restless heart syndrome) and he's actually pissed off at her and spirals into his old ways and self-destruction. they end up going on and feeling the blows of society and government, and decide to just get the fuck away from it.

it never really says if they get back together, but the odds point to yes.

i'd probably have to go with American Idiot, because i just can't relate to Gloria's character as well as i am able to with Whatshername.

i still didn't cast my vote though, just in case.

But seriously, American Idiot was the comeback album. And it really did make a huge political statement. But its not their defining album. Nor is it their best.

If anything, Nimrod was one of their defining albums, showing that they were more than just one-trick punk ponies, and the great things they are capable of if given time. Dookie/Insomniac (I'll group them together) introduced the band to the world, but it was just a first-impression. It represented their tenacity, but not the scope of their creativity.

21CB is Nimrod part 2, mainly because it too follows an 'introduction' album. Like Dookie/Insomniac, American Idiot represented their tenacity, but not the full extent of what Green Day is capable of as a band. 21CB does that job.

And that is why 21CB is the better album.

well they did allegedly "upset" their fanbase with dookie, but I think they just moved on, and went for a bigger audience

then some people were upset by AI, what can you expect, people have different tastes.

I know people who hated AI actually liked 21st breakdown, so, yes it all comes down to tastes.
