well I haven't heard 21CB yet so I can't decide yet

but isn't it likely that most people are gonna answer 21CB now because they're way obsessed and excited with all of this right now so they'll play 21CB all the time and when they look in retrospective in a few months they might think differently?

I like 21st Century Breakdown better. But maybe that's just because I'm over American Idiot by now.

I could never say which GD album is the best and which is the worst.

So I really don't know. But, American Idiot was the greatest thing in 2004, and 21CB is probably the same this year.

As of right now, I'd say I prefer American Idiot, but I haven't learned all the lyrics to 21st Century Breakdown yet, and I've also only heard the full thing twice. It could very easily change. I LOVE AI, and from what I've heard of 21st CB, I could grow to love it just as much, if not more... but at the moment, I'd still say AI.

At this point I say Breakdown is the better album but I think people are psychologically inclined to enjoy new things.

Too early to call for me, because I may be more inclined to say 21st Century Breakdown because it is new material and its been years since the last Green Day album. But when I first heard it I loved it entirely and I thought it was better. But for me it is more closely a tie, each spectacular. But Breakdown may be a bit more because it's so new and a bit ambitous.

So I say Breakdown.

Breakdown is way better than AI. I love it and can't stop listening to 21cb, 21 Guns, East Jesus Nowhere Last Night On Earth, both Viva La Glorias, Murder City, and Last of The American Girls. Best tracks and all single worthy.

But I don't think it will outsell AI. Breakdown is really, really lyrically deep, and a lot of people might not understand what Armstrong is trying to say, and may be threatened by its complicated nature. AI was less lyrically complex and was easier to relate to. And the band being gone for 5 years doesn't help either. We'll see...I'll gladly eat those words.

In the long run, I'm probably going to say 21 Century Breakdown. Having heard some of American Idiot and all of 21CB live, the latter is far better.

American Idiot was mildly preachy. And while Jesus of Suburbia is a great song, the album as a whole will forever be characterized by eyeliner and screaming teenage girls with studded belts.

21CB is afar more intricate, afar more enthralling, and a far deeper album. And will likely stand the test of time better than American Idiot.

21st Century Breakdown is a maturation of American Idiot and a continuation of Warning:.

Billie wanted to be the Minority nine years ago. Thank fucking God we aren't anymore.

Oh, I know.

But seriously, American Idiot was the comeback album. And it really did make a huge political statement. But its not their defining album. Nor is it their best.

If anything, Nimrod was one of their defining albums, showing that they were more than just one-trick punk ponies, and the great things they are capable of if given time. Dookie/Insomniac (I'll group them together) introduced the band to the world, but it was just a first-impression. It represented their tenacity, but not the scope of their creativity.

21CB is Nimrod part 2, mainly because it too follows an 'introduction' album. Like Dookie/Insomniac, American Idiot represented their tenacity, but not the full extent of what Green Day is capable of as a band. 21CB does that job.

And that is why 21CB is the better album.

21st Century Breakdown is better.

I've got it and American Idiot on shuffle. They really compliment each other.

I love both albums but I think 21CB is better...don't get me wrong, I think both are great!

I love every song on both albums...I hope 21 Guns is a single because it's so beautiful and I love Billie's falsetto

21st century breakdown. it's little bit less pop then AI and it got more power and meaning. but i agree with a opinion that it's not gonna be such succesfull as ai was.

21st Century Breakdown definitely! More songs and different sounds... I think it will be more popular than AI. Even though AI got me into Green Day

While I love American Idiot and it defined my whole mid-teenage years, what I've heard of 21st Century Breakdown blows all of that out of the water. AI was just a baby step, this is a giant leap. It's so experimental (for Green Day) and every song break the traditional "Green Day" structure... it's just amazing. I've been waiting for the day Green Day put out an album like this, unlike some people I actually encourage the bands I like to grow and to change.
