This has to stand up as their best work. It's such a perfect combination of a forward thinking band but with the influence of their old stuff definitely in there somewhere. Lots of songs sound like they could have come off Nimrod or Warning, but then you realise you've forgotten about the piano bit, which they wouldn't have done earlier in the career. I like how they've still got epic songs like Before The Lobotomy but it's condensed into a listenable length. Sometimes Jesus Of Suburbia could seem a bit long, but now they have their several-songs-in-one songs condensed to like 4 or 5 minutes, which is better I think because it's just more listen-able, especially for newer fans.

It's a fantastic record, Last Of The American Girls is a perfect pop song. 21 Guns and 21st Century Breakdown are classic stadium anthems. Last Night On Earth is an amazing piano ballad. Know Your Enemy and Christian's Inferno are shout out loud punk songs. This album has everything.

Lights Out should have been on the album, its one of the only punk sounding songs from the Breakdown sessions (along with KYE, 21st CB to some point, HAH ect)

But they are loosing that punk edge now. I wonder how things will play out next album...

Punk is dead...did nobody tell you this.

I mourned it many years ago!

Honestly though, it's not the sound of the music that makes it punk it's the ideas and motivation and passion behind the music. I for one still find it very punk influenced but musically it's something else. It's a natural progression, they're older and "wiser" in many respects and the music reflects that.

So in that respect, Punk isn't dead...it just sounds different!

Thats true, Im always thinking "People say this isnt punk, but this is the modern age, things have evolved and are different now..this is modern punk"

Unfortunatly, somebody could use this as a means to say Fall Out Boy are punk, and that would kill me inside.

Why the fuck is it on The Sun website?

That well known peddler of liberal, democrat-voting, left-wing punk politics?!!!

Fuck off Warner, you're milking Green Day for every penny, give them a chance to save some of their fucking dignity.

I also wondered why it was posted on there. It's depressing to think that the album's wedged in between 'LOOK TOPLESS GIRL' and 'WHY IMMIGRANTS ARE FUCKING US OVER'.

Gotta set the modd and light those incense candles right? I think you've said that you need to go to bed for like 5 posts already hahaha.

Baha, nah. I just want to have it to listen to in the car the day it's released. I've been looking forward to that.

Peacemaker and Little Girl are my favorites at the moment.

I just went put the songs on my ipod and drove around town for the full album. So happy

That's my intention, too.

Thank fucking god there are a couple of us old timers around. We aint alone.

No, you're not alone. Check out the veterans thread.

I hate NOFX.

I don't like them at all lol

This Green Day album is an album that has songs on it and I like their songs so much that this album makes me want to listen to all their songs and all their albums and songs and albums.

WTF does he say at the beginning when there is a slight whisper?!??!?!

I'm convinced he says 'Satan worshipers' or something along those lines. Plug in your headphones, or turn it up really freaking loud. You'll hear it.

In Viva La Gloria (Little Girl) I so recognized the guitar. That's what we were hearing in that first leaked video back in October.

those are my 2 favorites as well. I would actually say that Peacemaker will likely become one of my top 5 all-time fave GD songs. generally I don't make snap judgments on songs; I wait until I've listened to them for awhile, to make sure the appeal doesn't wear off. but that song is freakin brilliant. same way I felt when I first heard Misery and Minority.

overall, I'm extremely pleased with this album, probably even more so than I had hoped to be. I really wasn't sure what to expect

i'm up to 21 Guns right now .... what a fantastic album!!!

This is even better than what I expected, and I expected it to be great. I got a little emotional listening to Last Night on Earth. I honestly can't even pick a favourite - each and every one of the songs is fantastic. Truly.

I am so proud of Green Day, honestly, they just keep coming out with A+ albums. Looking back over their catalogue, there is not one bad album. Each and every GD album is a total gem and 21st Century Breakdown is up there with the others.

I can't wait to see them live!!!!

I moved this here cause someone already closed my fuckin thread. Fuck. I just wanted to start some conversation. But there are rules Smoky, this aint Nam.

Okay kids. I have never posted here. I don't know the 411 on all the message board ettiquettte so go easy. Im not trolling, whatever the fuck that means. Im streamin the album right now though, and would love some conversation.

First off, I have been a Green Day Fan since I was 12 years old. Thats pretty much the same age everyone here, except I was 12 years old 16 years ago. I have seen them live 6 times, and have tickets to add 2 more to that total. I have a six year old daughter named Adeline who can sing all the words to several Green Day songs. I remember a friend in Grade 7 showing me Kerplunk. Coming from the grunge generation (wiki Nirvana) I grabbed on to Green Day and never let go. Obviously got Dookie, which completely changed my outlook on music. Maybe no dookie, means Billy aint a punkrocker. Who knows. Next came Insomniac. This is one of the most underrated punk albums of all time. Even was fortunate to catch them tour this album. Seeing them live with the Riverdales. A real fuckin punk show in a god damn stadium. The whole thing lasted 2 hours including set up and both shows. Fast forward past the other Green Day albums that I still cherish very much and listen to regularly. Needless to say, I am one of those Green Day fans, that was actually hardcore about them before American Idiot. Not trying to be an ass, but its somewhat satisfying to think the band I listened to in my kool-aid dyed, box bleached hair has maybe just released one the greatest rock albums of all time.

21st century breakdown is gonna be this generations version of "The Wall" by Pink Flloyd. Its a wonder. You all fuckin know this. You are, you have, or you will listen right away. This is Green Day's Opus. I saw them twice on the American Idiot tour and I cant wait to see this. This album is louder than anything theyve done. Its so full. The lyrics and story are followable and relevant. I think this is already my Favorite Album of all time. Easily. I know a guy shouldnt rush to judgement, but this album is gonna be remembered for a long, long time. Get excited kiddies. If you thought American Idiot was big, wait till this bomb drops.

Slow down there, chief. Let's not get nuts.

East Jesus Nowhere is still my favorite, but there are others on that list now too. All the songs are just so fucking amazing it's impossible for me to pick just one. Or even put them in order.

Not sure if this has been updated (i went to bed) - but apparently, that FLAC on what.cd WAS indeed a legit CD rip. What was throwing people off was track 1, which was mastered like shit in the studio on purpose to give the effect of Billie singing through a radio (so when they ran the tests, it didn't look legit). After sampling all the other songs, it passes the tests.

So..there you go

Incredible Album.

Not a huge fan of LOTAM, Horseshoes and Handgrenades, Know Your Enemy or Last Night on Earth.

But feck me, the others are incredible, truely incredible songs.

East Jesus Nowhere is fast becoming my favourite Green Day song and thats saying something, !Viva La Gloria! is amazing, Peacemaker also.

As for the rest, well I can't talk about them all but I wish I could, they're all superb.
