I don't we've talked enough about Before the Lobotomy. It took me a few listens to completely understand it. But that song is amazing. Discuss.

I moved this here cause someone already closed my fuckin thread. Fuck. I just wanted to start some conversation. But there are rules Smoky, this aint Nam.

Okay kids. I have never posted here. I don't know the 411 on all the message board ettiquettte so go easy. Im not trolling, whatever the fuck that means. Im streamin the album right now though, and would love some conversation.

First off, I have been a Green Day Fan since I was 12 years old. Thats pretty much the same age everyone here, except I was 12 years old 16 years ago. I have seen them live 6 times, and have tickets to add 2 more to that total. I have a six year old daughter named Adeline who can sing all the words to several Green Day songs. I remember a friend in Grade 7 showing me Kerplunk. Coming from the grunge generation (wiki Nirvana) I grabbed on to Green Day and never let go. Obviously got Dookie, which completely changed my outlook on music. Maybe no dookie, means Billy aint a punkrocker. Who knows. Next came Insomniac. This is one of the most underrated punk albums of all time. Even was fortunate to catch them tour this album. Seeing them live with the Riverdales. A real fuckin punk show in a god damn stadium. The whole thing lasted 2 hours including set up and both shows. Fast forward past the other Green Day albums that I still cherish very much and listen to regularly. Needless to say, I am one of those Green Day fans, that was actually hardcore about them before American Idiot. Not trying to be an ass, but its somewhat satisfying to think the band I listened to in my kool-aid dyed, box bleached hair has maybe just released one the greatest rock albums of all time.

21st century breakdown is gonna be this generations version of "The Wall" by Pink Flloyd. Its a wonder. You all fuckin know this. You are, you have, or you will listen right away. This is Green Day's Opus. I saw them twice on the American Idiot tour and I cant wait to see this. This album is louder than anything theyve done. Its so full. The lyrics and story are followable and relevant. I think this is already my Favorite Album of all time. Easily. I know a guy shouldnt rush to judgement, but this album is gonna be remembered for a long, long time. Get excited kiddies. If you thought American Idiot was big, wait till this bomb drops.

Most of you people have no real understanding of how singles are chosen and what songs are likely to become singles. Generic sounding songs that only fans would be drawn to (such as American Eulogy or Murder City) will *not* be singles. I *love* both of those songs, but they just aren't what could be singles. Compare that to Restless Heart Syndrome, which I do not like all that much (it might be the 10th best song on this album to me), which has a good chance of becoming a single. Last Night on Earth, while unique for Green Day is too "boring" for radio, even if good. I've followed rock music very closely for the last 15 years and I work in intellectual property law, if you're curious where I'm getting the basis for my opinions.

The most likely songs to become singles imo are the following:

A. 21 Guns (this *will* be a single...the only question is whether they wait to unleash it as the third single after shoring up their base with another song after the weaker first single KYE or whether they release it second like Good Riddance)

B. East Jesus Nowhere (this also *will* be a single)

From here it gets iffy, but I'd say the following have the best chances, even though 4th and 5th singles aren't usually as big anyway:

C. Before the Lobotomy / Viva La Gloria (only one of these will be a single, not both, as the general idea is very similar and they will appeal to the same sorts of listeners...my thought is BtL has a better chance because it just sounds more radio friendly)

D. 21st Century Breakdown / The Static Age / Restless Heart Syndrome (The Static Age has an outside chance, but it's really more like the Stuck with Me / Church on Sunday / Scattered of the album...an awesome song, but may just fall short of the single bar because other songs have a more unique sound to pull different types of listeners in).

This album will not have more than 5 singles, as virtually no album ever does. By the time the 6th single comes out, the album has run its course and there's no need for any more.

So what's funny is that it looks like the 1 hour special DID in fact include all the singles when at the time I thought it would not.

To summarize, the following songs will be singles as outlined in the analysis above:

1. Know Your Enemy

2. 21 Guns

3. East Jesus Nowhere

4. Before the Lobotomy

5. 21st Century Breakdown / Restless Heart Syndrome (either could be picked)

it was definitely a good cry. I just became overwhelmed with the whole thing. I am glad I got it in bits and pieces I wouldnt be able to take it all in at once.
