Break of Day
The problem is that Nimrod peaks early and has, sadly, a bunch of filler. This succeeds where Nimrod doesn't.I kind of disagree. I love almost all of nimrod and I feel like a lot of this album is filler, a lot of piano, softer, songs. Not too many stand out besides murder city, 21st century breakdown, know your enemy, 21 Guns and horsehoes and handgrenades...Some of the songs are good if you get into them, but it feels like this album is only good if you're in the mood for it, in the mood for songs that build up. Green Day has always been my "go to" easy listening alternative rock band. I can listen to any song on dookie at any time. Not so much this. Starbug
Most people are torn. This is without a doubt their most ambitious/epic and experimental album to date. At the same time, It might be too much for some to digest. But some love it, some hate it.I think that's about right?I hate speaking for others tho.Hmm...I somewhat expected a love fest after the other night, since everybody loved those tracks so much.Generally very positive. Mixed on whether it surpassed American Idiot or not though.Eh. Who cares, right? lol I bet it stands mightily on its own we like it.Well I knew you would SERIOUSLY,I am really bummed out that not a lot of people talk or say they like RHS, is like maybe in my tup 3 favorite songs off the damn record.:/different tastes I guessI like it a lot. I also really, really, really like Before the Lobotomy.
Eldoon
This is more of an album. Like Warning and everything before it. AI was a punk rock opera. So yeah, there are big differences. I think if you listen to 21 CB on it's own without AI in mind, you'll like it better. I fear expectations might be what kills this album. It's not that it's a letdown, just some people are looking for AI Part 2, a second punk opera. This really ain't it.I totally agree...I mean, AI definitely flows as an album, but 21CB doesn't even have much of a story - it's not the "rock opera" all the magazine's keep referring to it as. I'd say it's more of a concept album, with Christian and Gloria as motifs and a bunch of recurring themes/lyrical references. It's a beast of an album, certainly. Kate Austen
Starbug - they really did pick some of the BEST trakcs on the album to air on the radio. I think that is why so many people were so happy. But I think when you take on the whole album - front to back - it's a different beast.

apocalipstick
Murder City is amazing, I can see the influence of the Oscar Grant murder/riots in the lyrics and they were able to tie it in to the story line too!
Guest Billy
i'm liking the song endings too, it's so un-Green Day. Old Classic Green Day would end a song with a strong Chord Fade out, now they're messing with feedback and switching the killswitches on the guitar to end it. i like that a lot actually. Muttweed182
I'm having a hard time deciding if they topped Warning:.IMO AI murdered Warning. This record just told AI to GTFO and just pushed him off the mountain.

Peel Slowly And See
IMO AI murdered Warning. This record just told AI to GTFO and just pushed him off the mountain.Warning: was so much more refined than American Idiot. American Idiot was just a warmup for this one. Green Day has always been my "go to" easy listening alternative rock band. I can listen to any song on dookie at any time. Not so much this.Yeah but you see - what you just described was Green Day tackling a "classic rock" genre. A lot of those Piano Ballads and stuff , are just that. And to some, they are incredible and beautiful. I can def understand why you wouldn't like them, especially when you consider past albums Green Day have put out. I personally think the slower songs are some of the better parts of the album. And some of harder songs like (Christian's Inferno and Horseshoes and Handgernades) are the duds.Warning: was so much more refined than American Idiot. American Idiot was just a warmup for this one.Wait what? AI was a much more refined album then Warning ever was. You crazy.

Who cares, right? lol I bet it stands mightily on its own It stands not mightily but as a god. It definitely has to be taken in as a whole.I totally agree...I mean, AI definitely flows as an album, but 21CB doesn't even have much of a story - it's not the "rock opera" all the magazine's keep referring to it as. It is just kind of hard to grasp because the first person perspective changes for different songs with little indication or can be applied to both characters. I like the fact that it is not linear though.
Kate Austen
And the album has officially farmed out in torrent country =)EDIT: Link removed.Thank you. I'm going to have to run a spectral check on this, to make sure it's 100% legit, and not a transcode of the stream.
Muttweed182
I really fucking like this album. After TWO listens I know all the words basically and I haven't read any lyrics. I think what I like most about this album is they are still experimenting with there new sound but it's something everyone can enjoyOld School fans = Murder City, Last Of the American Girls, The Static Age, Horseshoes & HandgrenadesAI fans = 21st CB, East Jesus Nowhere, 21 Guns, Know Your EnemyYet these and every song have something unique about them that make them noticeable. They still go to new territory and try new things. I know after a few listens that this is better. I really have my hat off to Green Day. I'm so shocked by this album that I want to fucking shake all there hands and congratulate them.
