Um, dunno, it's a girl in a dress yeah. In a castle, and stuff with a prince or something, at the end running in a field with grass or something, and then meeting in a school...that one. (it's everything I remember from the clip)

Ok, super late, but here's my opinion.

I definitely liked that basketball mix way better. As someone said at the beginning of this thread, very anti-climactic, even with the fire. I thought there were very awkward shots in there that didn't seem to flow very well, I though.

One the thing that really bugs me is the "gimme gimme revolution" part. The angled upward shot from the basketball vid was much better, in my opinion...

Not my favorite, but not my least favorite...

Right i've watched it 6 times and i think im now ready to give my comments and opinions on the video .

Firstly , yes I was over the moon excited that GD is BACK! Yes the first time watching it was awesome ... just because its green day!

But after watching it a few more times, that novelty has worn off, and i see the video for what it is.. which is nothing more that the run of the mill "performance video" with lackluster filming and basically nothing to capture the audience with,except for the haphazardly thrown in fire.

you know what , actually the song was kick ass, it was a fistful of energy, it was anger and angst and being sick of your enemy, it was violent, it was gritty. Its about striking back, bringing down the foreman. Its about rebelling, breaking out!

But did the video bring forth these images .. NO! it did not , instead it HID behind the song. wtaching the video, did it make you want to start a revolution ? absolutely NOT, and IMO that means it fails

Let me refer to this quote:

Ok , there is alot to be said about simple and powerful , but this video was neither. I was expecting something mind-blowing , hard hitting and sadly this didnt reach my expectations at all. Just because a video has green day in it, does not automatically make the video awesome.

I didnt really drill the message of "do you know your enemy in" , yes despite the repetitive lyrics, the video did nothing to add to the song, in fact this video could have been the music video for any number of songs.

Plus it was far from "simple" , the complicated angle switching bothered me, If they wanted to go for the performance video route , they should have kept it centered on THE PERFORMANCE . The angles distracted and IMO did not enhance the song. Yes they cut to surveillance footage, and government conspiracies ... BIG DEAL. The video didnt do anything but show the obvious... but i guess the song is kinda that way too

IMO a good music video should ENHANCE the song, it should COMPLIMENT IT, it should give the band a chance to go all out . For example AI did just that, it drove the message of AI home, it was in essence AI the song translated in to a video. KYE video fall flat on that. Yet AI was not overly complicated that it took away from the song, it showcased it.

KYE is a boring video. And the fire at the end was kind of a joke the way it was filmed. This video could /should have been so simple that it blew our minds.

I didnt feel the energy of the song in the video.

But i guess in a way the song was somewhat like the video, both were repetitive , and somewhat boring .( actually the song isnt boring at all)

I watched the american idiot video right after, and after seeing it for the 100th time , i STILL love that one.

Anyways, I love Samuel Bayer, BRING THE GUY BACK! He had vision, he was genius.

Finally i've seen the video. Im to lazy to go back and read what the general feeling towards it, but my initial opinion is that the video is perfect for the song. The song is simple, the video is simple and it really works well i think.

As a long time fan, I must say this was a huge let down. Even the most simplistic video of them playing in their bathroom (Longview) offered something atheistically appealing while cutting to a minor story arc. "Know your Enemy" was convoluted and didn’t really provide any interest visually. I understand the whole allegory to the novel 1984 and how Big Brother is watching you, but really, it’s nothing spectacular. The fact it was filmed in the dark using an array of pointless cuts felt like a film student with ADD was putting this together. Its easily forgettable cause theres no real focus on anything besides a bunch of cameras watching the band. As for the song itself? While the melody is catchy, the lyrics are pedestrian. It’s probably the most amateur song the band has ever written cause no creativity is employed here. It’s a repetitious chant with hardly any verses. If this is supposed to be another punk opera, shouldn’t the videos maintain that theatrical structure? Bayer's videos offered more to the imagination and created that operatic feel. The symbolism in "Know your Enemy" is spoon-fed which I find insulting for a band that wanted their fans to think. The only saving grace was the anti-climatic burst of flames. I'm really concerned that this is going to air world wide tonight cause alot of people are going to be disappointed if they’re familiar with Green Day's track record.

If there were actors in it, people would complain. There are so many bitchers and moaners out there, they are never gonna please everybody. but they pleased me, and that's what counts lol

The best part was when Jack was first introduced to Roses' family. Poor Jack, and I mean literally poor (lol), was introduced to Roses' family and had to act like he came from a rich family. I can't believe they both couldn't fit on that floating device at the end. It's like, 'move over Rose, it's damn freezing in here'. Rose was the enemy.

Well I really liked Holiday and BOBD and even American Idiot. Didn't like JOS or WMUWSE at all.

There are things I do like about this one, and people, the cameras are so jerky because they're mimicking security cameras, there are cameras planted everywhere. That's what that is, that's already been said, but I figured it bore repeating lol I like the bit w/ the shadows dancing behind them, and I love the flames. I can't wait to watch this tonight on my big tv! It's gonna be waaaay better than on this computer screen.
