W Axl Rose
This guy is getting brutalized for trying to start a rational discussion, wow! Is it because he's a Guns 'n' Roses fan? Granted dude, you're not doing yourself any favors in the way you presenting your counterarguments, but I agree with you to an extent. Just...I mean, I've been a Green Day fan for a long fucking time. Maybe not as long as you, but does that really matter? The people here all have one very important thing in common with each other: they love this band. It is no one's fault if they are not old enough to have been at some of the shows you went to in your high school days. Some of them may have been introduced to music in general by American Idiot, and now they're branching out from that. If it bothers you that there are Green Day fans who are 15 or 16 now, just wait until this new album blows up all over the TV and radio. Remember, we were 15 and 16 once; maybe we were hated by the older fans back then, too.I've only been going to Green Day shows since 1997, but in the later years they seem to have developed a formula (excepting Pop Disaster) for their live show; they will open with a handful of the brand new songs, then you'll hear some of the old favorites like Longview and Hitchin' a Ride. The third quarter of the set almost always looks like Knowledge > Basket Case > She, then the last few songs and the encore. On the AI tours, we saw BoBD, September, Good Riddance, etc., and every so often they would mix it up with some Lookout!-era stuff. That's always my favorite part of the show, but yeah it does become a little predictable the way they do it.Am I going to stop attending Green Day shows? Absolutely the fuck not. They're still my one favorite band and I'll be at as many shows as I can afford. To answer the OP's question: Yes, they are going to have to drop some of the older material in order to make room in the set list for 21CB material, otherwise, they'll be playing for 2 1/2 hours every night! As to which songs will go, who knows? For the arena tours, they dropped a LOT of Warning songs (they don't even play Waiting anymore ), and Welcome to Paradise and When I Come Around have disappeared recently. If I had to guess -- and I'm only guessing here -- some of the AI stuff will go the way of the buffalo. Not all of it, but maybe some of the less-popular songs like Are We the Waiting for example. We'll just have to wait for June/July to know for sure, huh?Well thought out post. I think they don't like my Axl avatar I remember being 15 at my first GD show and I think it is cool that almost 15 years later ,people who are that age now are getting to see them for the first time. I think over the last few tours GD have been lazy with the set list. As someone else mentioned in this thread, multiple shows are pretty much not necessary since you know what the set is gonna be. I wish GD would mix it up a lil. For themselves and the fans. I think a good breakdown would be 7-New album4-AI-Since it is their biggest since Dookie2-Warning-Pretty much only the die hards have this3-Nimrod-bust out Haushinka!3-Insomniac3-Dookie, I guess they will never drop Basket Case but play something besides Longview,She, WICA,etc.2-Kerplunk2-1039And throw in something like JAR,or Do Da DA every so often. That would cover all fans, new and the old school ones. That is 30 songs which given the length of most GD songs and their age is easily doable. A band like Pearl jam for example who are older than GD play 3 hour shows every night and never the same set twice. While GD will probably never do that, mixing it up a bit would be nice. It isn't as though any of their songs shouldn't be able to be called out on a moments notice. I am sure someone will say again that lighting and pyro cues prevent this and that is just sad. AI is my 2nd fav album behind Kerplunk and it was too big of a hit to drop completely. I say they do at least 4 songs from it next tour.

Walking Contradiction would be a wonderful surprise to see live.
