Know Your Enemy Lyrics

The lyrics seem to have double meanings, again. Billie Joe tends to do that a lot.

Love 'em, they're great.

I brought out the vocals in the song and it sounds like "gotta know the enemy". But take a listen for yourself and decide

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=O464O2AG

I'm still hearing, "Well GOD I know the enemy."

BTW- It is way cool how you brought out the vocals like that, I am in awe of your talent and everyone's talent who can manipulate the files...I can't even burn a CD- so thanks everyone!

well gotta know the enemy, rally!

This makes the most sense...but then again, I hear "Well GOD I know the enemy" Rally!

BTW- We ALL crack me up how we are trying to decipher the song! LOL- I love you all for this common bond of having nothing more important in our lives to do than geek out over Green Day.

I doubt it's frontman. I think I'm hearing fountain. He likes to use imagery and symbolism, which is why I think fountain makes sense for him here.

Yeah, I agree that he likes to use imagery and symbolism in his lyrics, but I still don't hear an "F" there.

....My ears are hurting from listening to it so many times...xD

I still think it's "Bargain of control" and I think that "Burning down the bargain of control" also has symbolism because you can't actually physically burn down the bargain of control, because "bargaining" is something that people do to exchange things at some sort of price. But in the song, it's like they don't want that control at any price whatsoever, so they want to burn it down metaphorically speaking.

Definately think it's god too.

And geeking out over green day is obviously one of the most important things in life.

I still think it's just oh-hey :)

I don't know how people are hearing an "F" in there cause i'm not hearing it at all.....

Does anyone have or know of a program that can slow down songs or bring out the vocals more in the song?

Here's what I think it is:

Do you know the enemy?

Do you know your enemy?

Well, gotta know the enemy. (Oh, eh.)

Violence is an energy,

Against the enemy,

Well, violence is an enemy (At all???)

Silence is the enemy,

Against the urgency to rally out the demons of your soul. (Eh, oh, eh, say!)

Well, violence is an energy. (Oh, eh, oh, eh)

Well, silence is the enemy, so give me, give me revolution!

Do you know the enemy?

Do you know your enemy?

Well, gotta know the enemy. (Oh, eh)

x2

Silence is an enemy,

Against your urgency to rally out the demons of your soul. (Oh, eh, oh, eh...(

- - - -

Hope this is right, and I hope it helps. After listening/watching the video for about an hour, I think that this is right, but I'm not fully sure.

i think Billie Joe is saying for all not at all but i am sure and i think he is just saying right not right here i dont know i only been listening to it for 3 hours now lol

I was thinking actually that the chorus sounded more like:

Do you know the enemy?

Do you know your enemy?

Well gotta know the enemy well, hey!

Instead of "right here". I mean, it works but it doesn't quite seem right to me.

Infantry - soldiers who are primarily trained for the role of fighting on foot.

Effigy - a crude representation of someone disliked, used for purposes of ridicule.

Insurgency - a rebellion against a constituted authority.

thanks a lot for that

That could be, actually.

He might not be pronouncing the end of "Well" or the "H" in "Hey" so it sounds more like a "Ell, ey!" even though it's intended to be a "Well, hey" lol

I know it's something like that, but definately not a "Right here"

Yeah, I registered just so I could post this :)

This is just my personal thought to how the chorus finishes for the MySpace preview.

_____B__________F#

The insurgency will rise

________B_____________F#

When the bloods been sacrificed

_______B___________G#___________F#______E

We'll be blinded by the sun that's in our eyes

Like I said, that's how I'd like it to go

^yeah, that's pretty much how I imagined the chord progression to go as well xD

I don't know if I imagined the lyrics to go like that however, considering Billie likes to use metaphors and symbolism in his lyrics, I don't think it'll be quite as literal as that, but I agree with your chords, although the last chord could go up, but most likely, the way the last line is going so far, it'll go down

I've been listening to this non-stop and I don't even really care what the lyrics are. But it's funny to watch people try and decipher them. :D

The lyrics are great! Although I don't like how it says, "gotta know the enemy right here." Right here? Doesn't sound that great to me... how about; "gotta know the enemy right now?" IDK, *shrugs*, just a silly opinion.

Instead of 'Well gotta know the enemy right here'

Is it not, 'We gotta know the enemy round here' ?

Just a thought(:

I'm beginning to wonder about the "effigy" part.

As it sounds quite similar to f-a-g pronounced one letter a time.

As "overthrow the f-a-g" instead of "overthrow the effigy".

Quite a long shot, but I think there's a possibility.

And BTW, I think it sounds more like "fountain" than "bargain". There is IMO an F-letter in the beginning of the word.

Hmm I don't think it's "Gotta know the enemy, right here"

I think it's just noise rather than words, haha, something like "wa-hey" or "well hey". Just like the "o-hey-o-hey" background part later in the song, it sounds more like just a general rally-cry type of sound.

Thanks for working out the lyrics, singing along to this is very enjoyable :D

mehh...I clearly hear "Effigy"

And to me Effigy makes more sense than "F-a-g" and you clearly hear a "gy" sound at the end. And idk if Billie would use that term "fag" in that sort of context at all. I think the only reason why Billie used the term "fag" in the song Holiday with the line "Kill all the fags that don't agree" was because it was supposed to be in the point of view of George Bush, or if it wasn't in Bush's point of view, it was just sarcasm directed towards Bush.

And I still don't hear an "F" for "fountain" i'm still hearing a "Bar" sound. And idk...I think "Bargain" makes more sense than "fountain"

I agree.

I think it is more of a sound like "Wa-hey" or what Kasmiria suggested, more of a "Well, hey" It's something like that. I definately don't here a "Right here" anywhere.
