Rob
I think it's coming to something when someone's outfit matters this much, lol. Seriously, let them wear what the hell they want to wear.I love it, I really can't wait for the whole song now. The turn it took before the cut off was interesting but having only the 'know your enemy' bit is a bit repetetive, so it's nice to know the song does take another turn.By the way, anyone else thinking that this might be clips used specially for the basketball thing, filmed on the set of the video? I can't really see these clips being in the video itself. The outfits matter a little more than nothing. The outfits from the AI era represent the AI era, the era in which a lot of hardcore fans turned their backs on the band, because they felt the band had sold out to the label. But it was an album that could stand on it's own. Same with earlier eras. What does it say about the album that they are still using the AI look? It's almost like "Hey, remember us kids? That American Idiot crew? We'reee backkk!" It just doesn't sit right with me. At least, not for now. People are starting to see them as "That American Idiot Band" instead of Green Day. justcause
So -- take those lyrics (which I think are easily on par with the best that Billie Joe has written), add Tre's furious BAM BAM BAM-BAM BAM-BAM drum rhythm, Mike's incessant, powerful, driving bass riff, and some fancy fingering from Armstrong's Stratocaster, and look what you get -- repetition that drives home a point and sends a chill up your spine. Again, and again, and again....in the powerful, egdy, and yet still eminently listenable way that we've come to expect from Green Day.Counting down the days til next Thursday when we can finally hear the whole song -- the snippets from last night's video suggest there's a few more surprises waiting for us in there.-MichaelThe lyrics are fucking awesome, and the sense of urgency pervades the whole song, or what we've heard of it so far. I think that on a personal level, it's a summoning-up of whatever it takes to get past the boundaries that hold you back - that instead of allowing the 'demons of your soul' to dominate you, there comes a point where you go 'fucking enough' and come out fighting.Great post, btw. pooldude256
Doesn't sound anything like AI to me in anyway whatsoever. LOL. If anything it reminds me more of "Too Much Too Soon".Yeah but that won't stop idiots from saying "OMG Green Day are just putting out another American Idiot because it was so successful."I'm psyched for the whole song. I'll be buying it on iTunes the day it comes out.lol...an itunes search for "Know Your Enemy" yields several dozen songs, and it looks like its the title of songs from half a dozen bands, including Rage against the machine. OH NO THEY BETTER CHANGE THE TITLE!!! [/reference to March of the Dogs, Sumi 41]ZOMG I just got the email about the Green Day widget and it says that Know Your Enemy officially releases on April 16 - my birthday!!!! FUCK YEAH!*does happy dance*Haha...that has been known for a week or so now, though. GD.com posted it, I think.
andy4
Really? You think it sounds different?I think it sounds like something off of American Idiot, I mean.. I like it nonetheless. But I don't really hear a huge difference.Granted it's only one song and who knows how the rest of the record will sound. Just to me it sounds very similar.I agree 100%. Didn't they even record in the same studio as AI? To me if this song was put on AI, I would have never known that it was coming from another album. If that makes sense? IscoredWaddlesgoals
Why does it seem to me that Green Day are beginning to crawl up their own arses?Don't tempt the cynical side of me into thinking that !I quite like that they make more effort with their styling and appearence. It looks more grown up and smarter. It's just the musicals and the way they just seem to let Warners behave like complete knobs. I know they might not have total influence, it just grates. Anyways, I'm reserving judgement until I see the full video and hear the full song. It's a bit daft to decide you love/hate something when you've not even seen or heard at least half of it. To me if this song was put on AI, I would have never known that it was coming from another album. If that makes sense? What difference does it make if they record in the same studio?? That has nothing to do with the style or sound of the songs themselves. And there are tons of Green Day songs that really could sound like they fit on different albums. They've always had their trademark style. I don't get why people have these discussions, I find it so annoying. You like it or you don't like it. It's new music regardless of whether or not it sounds "evolved" or "different". Just be excited for new material. Or don't.

I know the band (nirvana) wanted a drastically different sound, but for me that is better than making the album sound similar to the last one. Fuzz
I just finally had the chance to listen to the clip and follow the lyrics. I've been so freaking busy with GDA stuff the past 12 hours that I didn't have the chance to properly enjoy it. This clip is so fucking good. Is it repetative, the part we heard, yes. But i agree with mjfisher209 about that not being a negative quality for the song. I feel like this songs builds off Minority in such a positive way. Minority was sort of the "yeah i don't care that I'm different, fuck you" song, and this song takes it to the next level, talking about that group of people standing up and taking action for the things they want. The whole kind of insurgency activist feel is nicely portrayed in the song. It might change it's meaning when we hear the album and see where it comes from, but on it's own it's really awesome. The kind of song that just picks you up, you feel sorta like "fuck yeah! i'm pissed off and ready to change the fucking world"or maybe that's just me
