I totally agree.

what makes me so upset is this enduring talking about Billies hair or his outfit or whatever ...

they're a great band, they're awesome musicians ... who cares about those superficial stupid things like their clothes, hair color or whatever ... I just don't get it

Man it was a joke, probably because I am surprised it hasn't yet turned into one of those threads...

I am honestly surprised at how many of you don't like "Know Your Enemy". The reason why Green Day has been my favorite band for over 15 years is because every record sounds different ... you obviously know it's Green Day, but they've never done the same thing twice. I think most of you were hoping for something similar to what we already love, but Green Day songs are written from the heart and therefore you never know what the finished product will sound like.

Personally, I love it. It def. reminds me of the Nimrod/Warning and the b-sides off those records, but it's also another side of Green Day we haven't seen before. They're back!

DJ Rossstar

Not just every record, but sometimes every track on a single record - Nimrod is the best example. How can Uptight and Take Back be the same band? Awesome stuff.

I love this new music. You can hear influences and references to their past (name-checking two of the very few covers they have recorded (My Generation and Working Class Hero) in 21st CB is a great touch, Billie!) , but you get progression as well - that's what they do, that's what I love.

I loved the video too. It's rare to see them simply performing - and once those bloody basketball players are out of the way, well, the video will keep me happy until I get the chance to see them in the flesh again. Roll on that day.

Really? You think it sounds different?

I think it sounds like something off of American Idiot, I mean.. I like it nonetheless.

But I don't really hear a huge difference.

Granted it's only one song and who knows how the rest of the record will sound.

Just to me it sounds very similar.

I'm really not all that surprised --- A large portion of GDC members are generally pretty negative about their favourite band in general. It does suck, though, that people are so negative. :(

YEAH! It sucks that people have an opinion!

Doesn't sound anything like AI to me in anyway whatsoever. LOL. If anything it reminds me more of "Too Much Too Soon".

Fuck yeah, that's exactly what I meant --- Everyone should just agree with me! thumbs_up.gif

I think I've found my soulmate. <3

Honestly, why do you get upset if people talk about their looks?

They are celebrities, whether or not they are willing to embrace it. They live in the public eye so therefore their apperances will be 'evaluated' regardless of how they, or the fans, feel about it.

There's nothing wrong if some 'teenie' girl loves Billie Joe and lets everyone know. For god sakes she probably only 13. Plus, they obviously care enough about their apperances to dress nicely and do their hair and sometimesmake-up.

It baffles me to see people get upset when people notice and comment on their apperances when they quite obviously try to uphold good physical apperance when they're in the public eye.

I wanna vote for Katie removing MY QUOTE FROM HER SIG!

That will never ever happen. Sorry. :D

Fuck Warner. They deleted the YouTube video.

But I like the song. No, I love it.

Which was a B-side off of American Idiot, correct?

Yes. 'Too Much Too Soon' was an American B-Side. Doesn't sound 'too much' like it though either. Get it. 'TOO MUCH'. I'm so funny.

That's funny. 21CB leaked demo has a small part that reminds me of "Too Much Too Soon."

I won't say KYE reminds me of AI, but I have unintentionally segued from singing it into 2 AI songs (at different times :)) ... JOS and She's a Rebel - so it's not incompatible with AI. Regardless, I would be surprised if it was nothing at all like AI. I can hear these guys progressing and evolving with each album, and each album has some elements of their previous work in it.

I thought after I listened to it so many times I might start growing bored of the song.. but it just keeps getting better and better.

Ditto. I agree with a lot of the comments I've seen so far that there's more repetition in the KYE preview than we 're accustomed to hearing from the band. But when I think about it, isn't this really just an observation rather than a complaint? There have been plenty of other great songs in the past that have used repetition as a strength. The Kinks "You Really Got Me" is just one of them... think also of Bowie and Suffragette City and Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar On Me" also comes to mind. So does The Ramones "I Wanna Be Sedated". Does anyone ever get tired of listening to these? Methinks not.

Remember, one of the concepts behind 21CB is supposed to be making out with your BF/GF/SO while the city's on fire and burning to the ground around you...which in turn reflects this angst about how things are in contrast with the hope for the future that so many of us feel right now (I mean, look at me -- I'm a 41-year-old IT systems engineer with wife and an 18-month-old daughter, and I'm scared shitless about the state of the world and what it means for all of us right now!) So maybe KYE is what's supposed to fit in this gap between the real and the ideal -- and the explosive release of energy and emotion that comes from finally realizing what has to be done to close that gap. "The enemy" is keeping your mouth shut: "silence is the enemy."

So -- take those lyrics (which I think are easily on par with the best that Billie Joe has written), add Tre's furious BAM BAM BAM-BAM BAM-BAM drum rhythm, Mike's incessant, powerful, driving bass riff, and some fancy fingering from Armstrong's Stratocaster, and look what you get -- repetition that drives home a point and sends a chill up your spine. Again, and again, and again....in the powerful, egdy, and yet still eminently listenable way that we've come to expect from Green Day.

Counting down the days til next Thursday when we can finally hear the whole song -- the snippets from last night's video suggest there's a few more surprises waiting for us in there.

The more I listen to it, the more it grows on me. Now, I absolutely LOVE it. Can't wait til thursday to hear the whole thing, but it must be getting played fully on the radio before then??? *Hopes*

Micheal I think you've totally hit the nail on the head about the repetition. It really drives that strong message of the song into your head, it makes it all the more effective. I certainly cannot wait to hear the rest either!

OMG I just realized, that this is the first time since AI, a few years, that we see our guys in a music video or at least a part of it.

I'm really excited right now. :woot:

That was well written, and I agree - thanks! :) Welcome to GDC.
