Robin105
This what I think. I think Warner doesn't want to release this right now with the new album, tour, and everything else that will be going on the next few months. What I think they will do is once the album is out, once everyone has had a chance to hear it, they've played a few shows, then it will come out on DVD. I'm guessing 2010 or 2011. That's the only thing I could think of to be why Warner doesn't want to release it. I hope I'm right.

justcause
Great review - from everything I've read about this movie, it's clear that it's a real labor of love. Something that bugged me about BIAB was that Bayer seemed to think it was necessary to pull out every trick in the book to showcase how epic Green Day is - I felt like all it needed was to let the camera roll and the band just do what they do. Still, despite the criticisms I have for BIAB, it has a lot of memorable moments - the hot summer day, the sheer scale of the show, the whole range of energy and intensity and emotion right from the riveting first salvo of American Idiot thru to the poignancy of Good Riddance. All the tricksy stuff, I found irritating, but that was based on repeat viewing - first time I saw it, it was just ravishing - and it captured a moment in time, a high of the AI era. So, I'm thinking these movies are two different animals - the one is performance, the other creation. BIAB is big and showy, and it seems like HLAHG is intimate and pretty wonderful. I'd love to see it.
Jaymee!!
Reading the bit about Mike bringing in the key chain fron Estelle was just too adorable for words.Great review, you two
Tripe
Nice, J'net! It was brilliant of you guys to go back and make notes on everything right afterward. My mind was so full of...well, everything after it ended.....I did not remember as much as I would have liked. I liked the unpolished aspect of this movie. Much less "produced" than BIAB. And far more intimate.
*withoutadoubt*
Great review J'net and Andres! The details are incredible, and it was so well written!! Reading that makes me want to see it again - I forgot so many little things already that I would love to remember. Thanks for writing out all of this - it was a pleasure to read! I have to agree about the fan thing, too. Green Day really do have the best fans!
J'net
So, I'm thinking these movies are two different animals - the one is performance, the other creation. BIAB is big and showy, and it seems like HLAHG is intimate and pretty wonderful. I'd love to see it.Thanks, Angeline! You are so right about the two different movies, and I would have loved to have more words to describe how different they are, but Andres can be a TYRANT when it comes to word count . To me, what makes BIAB wonderful is the event itself - not the way it was filmed and edited - it was the energy that everyone felt in that place and on that day. And I do love watching BIAB, and I suppose it would have been possible for someone to film it without capturing as much of that incredible feeling - but the movies are two different feelings entirely. John was enjoying what he was doing and has a love for the band that shows in every shot. It's a beautiful thing to see, even if it was done on a very small budget..Nice, J'net! It was brilliant of you guys to go back and make notes on everything right afterward. My mind was so full of...well, everything after it ended.....I did not remember as much as I would have liked. I liked the unpolished aspect of this movie. Much less "produced" than BIAB. And far more intimate. Thanks, Dorie . I have had the experience before of forgetting too much of something important to me. When we went back to the hotel, we didn't even know yet that there were no plans to release the film, so it's really a great thing that we did sit down and make notes. And - I haven't finished transcribing half of mine yet. This week has been incredible with so much Green Day related work (not that I'm complaining ). I hope to work on my recap a little every day and have it finished by the end of this week.Great review J'net and Andres! The details are incredible, and it was so well written!! Reading that makes me want to see it again - I forgot so many little things already that I would love to remember. Thanks for writing out all of this - it was a pleasure to read! I have to agree about the fan thing, too. Green Day really do have the best fans! And thanks, Cheryl! I have MORE details, believe it or not that I will be trotting out this week. And some of them are some of the great moments in the film (for me anyway - I notice they lose a lot in the telling).

Boston
It sounds like the movie was a real work of art. Hopefully it gets released soon - maybe even before the new album is released. I want to wind down the AI era just that way and feel refreshed and excited for the 21st Century Breakdown to begin.

jnine13
Yeah, but they've authorized a theatrical production of AI that debuts in September. That just doesn't make sense if they are trying not to take attention away from the new album.Warner's doesn't have to give permission for the play because it is a live performance, only the copyright owners of AI have to give permission and the owners are the band. Warner's can't stop it from happening. Warner's has to give permission for the movie because it is a recording of the music and they do own the rights to the recordings.Great review! I'm delighted you cleared up my Warner's ignorance. I didn't realize there was a difference. So now it doesn't seem quite as incomprehensible that one is happening and the other isn't.And thanks to you (and everyone else) who has made positive comments about the review. I could have written 80 more pages about the content of the movie. As you know, it's so full of wonderful details. I've probably said it a million times by now, so one more shouldn't hurt - I really want everyone to be able to see this movie!
