plaid ducky
If it can beat out FELA! for Best Musical at the Tonys, it certainly will run for a good amount of time. A Best Musical win doesn't necessarily mean a long run. Look at "Spring Awakening." They won in June 07 but closed January 09. However, they did have an almost 2 year run with their national tour (it'll have a non-equity tour later this year) and it does have some international productions, which differ how close they are to the original production or not. Speaking of awards, the Drama League Awards nominations are being announced on Tuesday at 11 AM. Gallagher was already named an honorary co-chair so we'll see if AI gets any love. MassHysteria
I think that plaid ducky wrote that Fela got disqualified from Best Musical because of a clerical error. Let me double check on this. No, they're disqualified from Best Original Score, not Best Musical

Sorry for the double post. Fela isn't eligible for Bes Original Score because they didn't send in their petition in time. AI hasn't yet either but they have 2 weeks after opening to do so. Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love
Those special edition programs; could someone please scan one of them, if they can? I'd like to see how they look (actually, the normal program too, but I'm guessing they're the same as the special ones, minus a couple things?) HoneyDo666
FELA! has a shot, but has nowhere near the momentum of AI. Billy Elliot won last year, and it was good, but not amazing. A lot of it is about hype. AI is very hyped, but I'm sure it's great and I'm really looking forward to seeing it!

MassHysteria
There is an article about the show in the front of the Life section of today's USA TODAY. I'm so thankful that my school gives out free copies. Also an interview in the NYT tomorrow. Tony Award nominees will be announced on May 4th at the NYC Public Library for the Performing Arts by Glee's Lea Michelle and Broadway star Jeff Daniels at 8:30 AM! Seeing as I'm in town, I will DEFINITELY be there! Any other NYC peeps want to join me? Edited April 19, 2010 by MassHysteria

Boston
I saw the show on Saturday (my 18th birthday). From the minute I woke up that morning, I was bursting with anticipation for the show that I was about to see. Green Day has been my favorite band since I was 13, and it felt as if I was about to witness the ultimate culmination of so many years spent loving American Idiot. Minutes felt like hours as 2:00 approached, and I was sitting on the edge of my seat, boring everyone around me with my constant jabber about my love for Green Day. Finally, a mesh of noise filled the theater, and as the curtain rose, I was brought back to the turmoil of America cerca 2004. The opening number kicked off an entire show of radiant energy that filled the entire theater and eventually brought me to tears. The scoring was impeccable, the choreography intense, and the acting phenomenal. I was literally blown away from the opening chords of American Idiot to the ending notes of Whatsername. I honestly could not have asked for a better birthday.
