American Idiot Musical (Theatrical Production)

very outrageous and creative indeed.

No kidding! I bet more than half the entries are like this! Reminds me of one of the Idiot Club contests back when 21st CB had just come out, taking photos of fandom. I think the winner had painted their car? That's outrageous. This, not so much. The fact that it requires a video entry means better odds for everyone though... and it being on YouTube, you can SEE the competition (never a bad thing).

Hello! I’ve done it. I’ve created a blog. I can’t imagine I’ll be frequenting this site that often and when I do I’ll always link the posts on my twitter page but feel free to check back in from time to time for updates. And now a word regarding the stage door at the St. James Theater…

If you have ever come to see a play I’ve been in or attended one of my concerts before then you may have some sense of how vital it is to me that I get a chance to meet the people who have taken an interest in my work or any project that I’m lucky enough to be a part of. If you came to see American Idiot on Broadway this past week then you might have noticed that I’m not really holding up my end of the bargain this time around. I just wanted to take this opportunity to formally apologize for that and explain myself. Quite frankly American Idiot is the most challenging thing I’ve attempted as a performer to date and as much as I want to make sure I sign every playbill at the stage door it is far more important to me that I make sure I am giving the best and most reinforced performance I possibly can each show from the curtain’s rise to the curtain’s fall. Sadly, that often means going straight home after evening performances and staying in the theater to rest after matinees. This all said, whenever I have the energy and the opportunity to come out and meet all of you wonderful people, you can count on me to do so. It is my sincerest hope that everyone who has offered me their support and helped make it that much sweeter to do what I do will also offer me their understanding in this matter and know that my appreciation is forever.

With unyielding gratitude

John

Apparently last night, Johnny's mic went out during BoBD and he was given a handheld to finish the song. He couldn't play the guitar, howevern but luckily it was towards the end so the band just played.

Anyone here that saw it last night?

i was there! i felt horrible. as soon as it went out you could tell but he still sang it like it was working & then they handed him a handheld.

I'm sorry I keep posting today, but about the question of what to wear to the show, it seems they've addressed that on the official site FAQ:

"What should I wear to the show?

When you attend American Idiot at the St. James Theater, we want you to come as you are, whether that is a punk rocker or theatre aficionado, teenager or baby boomer."

I like this really. Being a theater guy, I DO usually dress nice to see a show, but for American Idiot, a show that to me says "Fuck the norm", dressing up seems out of place. Now I feel less guilt about not dressing up.

My last news update for the night, I swear (until I break it), a great interview with Stark Sands about joining the American Idiot team (and yes, the author is a bit stupid and uses both "Billie Joe" & "Billy Jo" in the same article  )

OMG at that YouTube video. And that's all I have to say. :sherlock:

Oh yeah - and that it is quite nice of John Gallagher to apologize in advance for being absent from the stage door in the interest of keeping himself well-rested. I imagine this show takes a crapload of energy out of him and all of them in every way.

Speaking of the contest, if there's anyone on here who has seen the show ON BROADWAY but is NOT competing, can you pm me, I have some detailed questions I'd loved answered.

Sorry, double post, stupid iPhone

I have a ticket for opening night! It's balcony, but it's opening night! I wasn't able to get 2 tickets, but I'm going to try for more individual ones and see what happens!

Mine are crossed for you, too, Justin - even though I'm entering the contest, too. Maybe you could take me as your guest if you win - then I won't have to be conflicted about wishing you luck (and I already have my plane ticket, so you could take someone else for the trip to New York. HOWEVER, my son is also entering, and if I win, he's going to be my guest ... it's a done deal.

I'm just saying, Justin, if I'm wishing you luck ... that's a powerful thing!

Sooooooo ... are you going opening night?

Despite the fact that I was just saying that I was going to be more financially responsible... Yes! I am! :)
