J'net
No one knows anything about tickets yet. No announcements have been made at the Idiot Club or through http://americanidiotonbroadway.com/ yet.And for those who haven't been following the whole thread recently, I want to reiterate that, if any tickets are made available to the public for opening night, they will be few and hard to get. Ben Thompson (a cast member) emailed me the following note:Oh! I wanted to tell you something that may be useful info to all the "American Idiot" fans. It should be made known that opening nights are usually strictly industry audiences. Tickets to the general public do not usually go on sale for this night. That being said, I don't know if the Idiot Club may get some or not. I just don't want anybody to spend a bunch of money to get up to nyc and not be able to see the show. ScreamsInSilence815
Just another note about stage-dooring that I forgot to mention before:If you go to an evening show, you'll be more likely to meet the cast, because they obviously have to go home sometime. A lot of casts usually stay at the theatre after a matinee, especially if they have a show later that evening. Most of the time, they order food in and stay there for later. So, if you're looking forward to possibly meeting the cast, it'd be a better bet to go to an evening show. Note that I didn't say this means you'll DEFINITELY meet the cast, sometimes, it's just bad timing and no one will come out. But, as a word of advice, there's a bigger chance of meeting them after an evening show.
Sarahnade.
I don't know what I'm going to do. I live about 6 hours away, and I'll have to get someone to drive me there. I would like to go opening night, but that seems impossible, and school is going to get in the way. I might go that weekend. I want to go see the preview too, but I don't know if I'll be able to get up there for it. I just hope to see it. Money isn't an issue, it's just getting there. And since this production's gotten such rave reviews already I think it's safe to say that it won't be closing so soon after opening. You could try for a date in the summer. NotAnotherSN
I'm so glad it's opening at the St. James. Although it's a relatively small theater, it's a very special theater for me. I saw the last show of The Producers there and met Mel Brooks outside the theater (!!!). I'm hoping to go sometime in May, or early April, to see the show before they start cutting stuff from previews . As a Green Day fan and a huge musical theatre fan, this is HUGE news for me
Chelsea Hotel
Alright...depending on when Green Day's coming back around this year (IF THEY WOULD RELEASE THE DATES ALREADY) I might end up asking for the money for this as my birthday present. It's an outstanding production, and I think it'll only get better as little things are tweaked.I hope to meet you at one of the shows . sallysimpson
Hi all --I'm so excited this is coming to B'way and St. James is the perfect venue -- it's where Tommy ran for about 1 1/2 years, so it's well suited to the rock musical. It's been awhile since I've haunted that theater, but my first year I was there ALOT. There's no telling whether there will be discounted tickets until the show opens and the reviews are out. The theater is about 3 times as big as the one at Berkeley Rep -- more seats but tons more people. Based on the ticket prices Finian's Rainbow (which is at the St. James), Orchestra/Front Mezzanine seats run $122-250 (depending on the day and the location), rear mezz tickets are $75, and balcony are $50 (and the balcony is way high up). I suspect that AI tix will be comparable. When Tommy was on B'way, they would sell standing tickets for $20 -- but only if every other ticket in the house sold. For Rent, they had $20 student tickets that covered the first two rows, and people would literally get in line at 3-4 am to wait for evening tickets.I'd be really, really surprised if AI shows up on TKTS before the Tonys. Count on it being nominated, so theater junkies will be trying to see all the nominees. If it wins one of the primary Tonys (best musical, director, book, music, choreography), it may be difficult to get tix during the summer as well. I'm sure the producers are hoping the show runs at least a year, because it takes a long, long time for a show to run in the black. However, if they didn't think the show would eventually make money, they wouldn't be taking it to B'way. If you are confident that AI will run for about a year and you're looking to save $$$, I suggest buying tickets in January/February 2011. It's the slow season for theater and many houses sell significantly (25-50%) discounted tickets for weeknight performances. Hotels and airfare is also much cheaper because it's frickin' freezing. Generally, the original cast will remain with the show for the first year, so if AI runs that long, you should be able to see the original cast. You should be able to get tickets for the previews -- opening night is tough to get tickets for (not impossible, but tough). The reality of NYC is if you have the $$$, you can generally buy your way into anything.Hope this helps with your planning. NotAnotherSN
I'd be really, really surprised if AI shows up on TKTS before the Tonys.I think, as with most previews, AI will likely be on the board during previews. If you're looking for cheaper tickets, check out the TKTS booth during previews! Also, a rush or lottery will most likely be run for the show as there is an onstage band. Like Rent, they'll probably put seating where the pit would be.

Chad is Rad
Thank God the show is going broadway...I was under the impression that I would never get to see this performed, and it was a very sad thought. I know I'll find a way to get to Chicago to see this, there's no way I'm missing it.

It's not going to be in Chicago... it'll be in New York...Also, rumors are going about that more females will be added and that Tony Vincent's wife, Aspen Vincent, might be joining the cast. But I don't know how reliable those rumors are.

MassHysteria
I thought it said dates haven't been announced yet, so how do you know it isn't going to Chicago? You must be a little confused... As of right now, the American Idiot production is a non-touring show that will be shown on Broadway in NYC. There is no plan for a tour at this time. There could be in the future, we don know. So as of right now, we can say with 100% certainty that there are no plans for a Chicago show.
pasalacqua_or_bust
I'm hoping that eventually it will make it to Chicago. The director was talking about how it was so cool that it made it to Broadway, but he didn't know if it would be the permanent home, or whatever. He said he thinks the fans will tell them where it needs to be. Hopefully meaning that when it's done on Broadway, they'll take it to other cities, because I'm never going to make it to NYC. I can't wait to hear what everyone else has to say about it, though.

I hate to say it but a touring production of "American Idiot" would be a bitch to do in terms of the set. Not many theaters in the country have the height for the different levels. Also, if I remember correctly, Berkeley had to add reinforcements underneath the stage to accommodate the weight of the set. For a theater production, Broadway is pretty much the ultimate destination. You might just have to suck it up and make plans to head to New York.
