GDM
What kind of car is it? I've wondered... Don't know. Kinda reminds me of an Impala. Can't really tell from the ground, and I didn't have a zoom lens on me. Though of course, the pics are so bad that even if I did, it probably wouldn't have come out, lol. NGL, I heard a little audio of Etheridge's "St. Jimmy." I blame the shaky opening on nerves and a little of the audience clapping along. At times, it sounded like they were speeding up the beat. Yes, that's messed John up a couple of times, too, but I think she couldn't hear herself or the beat after she came on. Plus, it really is fast and there's a lot of words that have to come out in that short period of time between St. Jimmy entering the stage and the end of the 1st verse. plaid ducky
Speaking of Stark: Anyone know, or want to venture a guess, as to why he doesn't get a guitar solo in the encore like the other 2 main leads (John and Michael)? Just curious. In Berkeley, there wasn't a guitar solo. At the beginning of Broadway, the guitar solo was Joshua Henry and Michael. When Joshua left (sniffles), John took over the solo because Wallace can't play the guitar like Josh did. Why they gave Michael the original solo, I'm not sure. Don't know. Kinda reminds me of an Impala. Can't really tell from the ground, and I didn't have a zoom lens on me. GDM
Melissa Etheridge's website linked my review of her performance. They will probably (I assume) take it down as more professional reviews come in, and I'm still in shock, but that was very nice of them, particularly since I wasn't 100% positive about it. I would really love to see the show again on Sunday to see how the week fares with her...

sundaymorning6am
One of my friends is guessing that Melissa is going to take over after BJA leaves. No offense to Ms. Etheridge, who is giving it her all, but I hope not... And yeah, I think the clapping messes them up a lot before St. Jimmy. Primarily it messes up the musicians, which is never a good thing when you have to sing along with them

luvgirlcl
Someone took a partial audio of Etheridge singing "Death of St. Jimmy" I hate to sound like a downer, but the tone change and the folk-ish thing they did there (like someone else mentioned), kind of took away the punch that I've always loved about this part of Homecoming. I understand the higher tone, but what they did with the guitars and instrumentalization (sp?) rubs me the bad way . And the way she sings it, sounds very 'typicall broadway', it lacks edge and more energy I guess...maybe it was first night jitters and hopefully she'll get better at it. Freezing Melons
saw Theo's last show. It was my first broadway experience, and I loved it. Billie was amazing, the whole show was mind blowing. it was great, would love to see it again and again. i thought i was going to cry when it started ahah. Tripe
OK, I totally did NOT love that audio from Homecoming with Melissa. Hopefully, it will get better. Those are some big shoes to fill. (Although, not literally, since I think BJA has teensy feet and I would guess Tony's aren't too huge either, haha) Tanya, congrats on your blog getting some exposure! John Gallagher's tweet = fucking hilarious.

GDLoT
VIDEO of Melissa Etheridge as St. Jimmy! ~This youtube user has 4 video clips~ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvs2A8M2pKs AND Melissa's vlog ~a thank you for her American Idiot debut: During Sunday night's "Whatsername," Gerard was tearing up/crying from the moment is started. And when the ensemble moves to look at Whatsername in the window, Miguel grab ahold of Gerard’s hand, reassuringly, not letting go until they had to move again. Very fitting considering they both step in their departing friend’s shoes. Something that I love about this cast is how much of a family they are. How they take care of each other. How they enjoy each other’s company. It’s smaller than most musical companies and many have been with the show and each other since 2008. Heart these Idiots. that made me tear up a bit. and again I want to thank everyone who gave recaps, etc about this amazing show. I really enjoy reading each of them.
Bastard of 1967
VIDEO of Melissa Etheridge as St. Jimmy! Thanks for posting the link -- I have to say (and hate to say) that she's "OK" in the role but she's not hitting it out of the park. Her interpretation (slower, more folk-rock) doesn't carry the same level of bad-ass or in-your-face energy that Billie's does (or even Tony's). Then again, I don't think you can find anyone who puts the kind of energy into a stage performance that Billie is capable of.
