chickin'pickin'
am i the only person on this forum who actually likes the idea of a powerpop gd album?it'll be interesting, you have to admit.No. Powerpop blows.Let's hope Billie is conforming to that old 'chestnut' of 'messing' with us. The excuse for all lame actions of Green Day.
piratepalmer
Yeah, I understand the "bitch gotta eat" mentality. Music is their job, and they need it to support themselves. The bigger audience, the more money they earn. But why must creativity/talent/honesty and 'more money' be mutually exclusive concepts?I really wouldn't have thought they give a flying fuck about the money - and what type of music "earns" them more. The record company might but I think Billie and the boys are well past caring what they think - or having to care!
NoVaCaInE!
I think this idea of putting its sound under a genre is not my cup of tea, id rather just listen to the songs and see if i like them, regardless of what genre you could class it under And i must admit ... when i downloaded the sample clip i thought i had accidently downloaded something else, its not what i was expecting at all I really wouldn't have thought they give a flying fuck about the money - and what type of music "earns" them more. The record company might but I think Billie and the boys are well past caring what they think - or having to care!*is in total agreement with that statement* I mean sure, anyone would appreciate the extra few quid, but it wasnt ever about the money for Green Day and i dont think it will be. Same goes for the sound of the album, i dont think they give a shit whether it might get them more money they just want to do it because they WANT to

marie1986
i bet the band is kind of anxious about what we'll think of it and if the new album will go past expectations of being better than AI. i want a 9 minute punk opera again!!
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love
I'm sorry. "It'll be nice or better anyway"? How is power pop "nice or better anyway"? Is Nickelback "nice or better"? Is New U2 "nice or better"? Is mother fucking Hoobastank "nice or better"?Right, I didn't think so. (*snap*).Yes, I can imagine Green Day making power pop into something nice.and, I don't have a straight dislike of power pop, it's not my favorite, but no hatred.[/late]
Fuzz
I've made this point a couple times already. First off the "power pop" bit is nothing new, and secondly I really wouldn't attribute much to it. This was from a single line from the AP article where Billie Joe mentioned it. The author of the AP article, who actually heard the songs, said the music was great, building off of the American Idiot sound. Here's the quote i put on GDA when someone else mentioned this"Don't worry about the "power pop". That's just one line that lots of media places started quoting. Green Day is not putting out a Killers album. I have no doubt that the music will be 100% Green Day, building off American Idiot's sound. Some people will like that, some people won't. But it's way too early for people to judge material we haven't even heard yet."

The bigger audience, the more money they earn. But why must creativity/talent/honesty and 'more money' be mutually exclusive concepts?Hello? Green Day is one good example that these are not exclusive concepts. They grew a larger fan-base with AI, because it was a fucking awesome masterpiece, that went just straight into the hearts of millions of people, because it is just so damned passionate and true and amazing. And If you read all the interviews they gave and all the stuff they said about that record, you can clearly see, that they were not aiming for a larger fanbase, but that they were really proud of what they have achieved with it as musicians. I doubt, there was any thought of making millions of dollars out of it while they recorded it. Does anyone remember the time, in which that record came out? A punk-rock-opera? It was a pretty bold move, I would say and I am so glad, they made it. am i the only person on this forum who actually likes the idea of a powerpop gd album?it'll be interesting, you have to admit.Idk, powerpop means Broadway Calls for me and I fucking love them. JellyCollin
i agree. but some of their newer music did have the catchyness of pop, and i think they have experimented with it enough to have it down. they are smart guys; i think the album will be good. The thing I like about Green Day is that they kinda change their music style every time they make a new album. And that is so cool, because it not the same damn melody they play every time, they actually make somthing new and different.am i the only person on this forum who actually likes the idea of a powerpop gd album?it'll be interesting, you have to admit. No, you're deffinitly not the only one. I like the idea, but I just have the opinion that you can't "lock" music into a genre. Music is music, some songs are deffinitly for example pop or metal... But I can't judge an album before I've heard it.I really wouldn't have thought they give a flying fuck about the money - and what type of music "earns" them more. The record company might but I think Billie and the boys are well past caring what they think - or having to care!I think they already got so famous that they have the damn money they need xD and now they're just making music for two reasons:1) They would deffinitly not disapoint their beloved fans <32) (and the most important reason) they love doing it! They love to create new music and they love to play it! <3I think this idea of putting its sound under a genre is not my cup of tea, id rather just listen to the songs and see if i like them, regardless of what genre you could class it under *totally agreement*!!! exactly like I wrote above :]I mean sure, anyone would appreciate the extra few quid, but it wasnt ever about the money for Green Day and i dont think it will be. Same goes for the sound of the album, i dont think they give a shit whether it might get them more money they just want to do it because they WANT to ^ like I wrote above xDi bet the band is kind of anxious about what we'll think of it and if the new album will go past expectations of being better than AI. i want a 9 minute punk opera again!!yup yup, words of wisdom

**nobodylikesyou**
if this turns out anything like U2 powerpop i'll cry blood. But you gotta give it to them.. they're simply looking to expand their fanbase I guess and they've done it with every single record. If that's a good thing? lets leave that unsaid. But we can't really judge them before the record comes out. But i'm in serious doubt now. the word "powerpop" is scary shitI dont think Green Day is looking to expand their fanbase. Do you seriously think that is the approach they took in writing this new album?I think Billie Joe has been very clear that they are pushing themselves as musicians.
