Mechanical Man
I threw up U-G.com today to find on their front page an article on Green Day's new album. Billie says they're taking their sound to a 'power-pop' direction. What are your thoughts because I am kind of fucking pissed. Power-pop has now damn attitude to it at all. Green Day has completely lost a lot of respect because this is telling me they're gonna fucking sound like Metro Station, Panic at the Disco, Fall out Boy, I mean what the fuck? What happened, Green Day? I know you can't sing about being young anymore but you can at least sing about politics/being old in a punk rock fashion. Jesus. I also am highly doubting that Billie is creating "three-chord mayhem", they haven't done that since 'Insomniac', and just a smidge on 'AI'. Whatever, I hope that this album doesn't fail, because I'm an underground guy, hates the mainstream, but I've always stuck with Green Day and power-pop, should not be them.Read the article
Joey
It's just a retelling of the AltPress interview. Hardly anything new.

Ally
isn't fall out boy and panic at the disco classed as emo not powere pop? or are the same? hmmm, i don't mind what it sounds like
Jewels!
Why would it matter whether it was mainstream? You know Green Day has been mainstream for nearly their whole career, right? So what if they change their sound again? At least it'll be interesting.Billie probably has a completely different take on power pop than you do, and I can guarantee you they won't sound like Metro Station. Saint of Saints
the only good power pop songs to my mind are weezer's buddy holly and ok go's here it goes again. But you know how fucked up people could be, it might not be power pop at all
JunkiexHeart
Powerpop's pretty good really. It's a genre I'd probably link GD to, aswell.
Fuzz
I had closed a thread similiar to this made earlier. This is nothing new, just a singular part of the AP interview that some places decided to pick up and make a bigger deal than it actually is. I don't think Billie was signaling that they were becoming the Killers just yet.I'll keep this thread around since people seem to wanna make threads about it. Hermione
This misleading rehashing of existing articles that different magazines do is pathetic. NME is the worst offender, they've decided to say this week that Green Day haven't released the names of any new songs. Total stupidity

greenbear
The NME and others are just picking random words and phrases out of the AP online interview (they haven't seen the AP mag yet) without understanding what's actually being said. They put their own interpretation on words like "power-pop" and try to make a headline out of it.Don't worry about it. Read Billie's own words in AP and you'll get the full picture. Blu
Metro Station and Panic at the Disco cannot be related to Green Day, even if Green Day decides to do something more "power-pop." Those bands don't have anything close to a sound GD would ever even want to use. I don't care what the press says the album will sound like. Genres are stupid, most of the time. I'll like the album no matter what they do.
madie
Isn't power-pop stuff like Metro Station, Powerspace, The Maine, Forever The Sickest Kids Hellooodbye etc. Stuff with synth and squeaky vocals, not more punkystuff like FOB

billie-joe-geek72
Whatever they do it'll be good.I'm not too worried about what it will sound like, i'm too excited over the fact they're coming out with a new album! Besides, it's Green Day, it's going to have at least something good about it no matter what. hah.

ifmemoryserves
Fall Out Boy is not Power Pop, at least not what I consider Power Pop. I've always thought out Power Pop as kind of like.... Metro Station I guess.Likes stuff with synthesizers and techno influences. But anyways, Green Day being Power Pop would be strange, but I'm not sure I would hate it.I guess I would like them to stick to their roots though. Vanessa
Power pop is kind of dance pop/rock. Metro Station, Forever The Sickest Kids, some The Maine songs...Fall Out Boy is pop/rock or new generation pop-punk. Panic At The Disco is just a rip off of classic rock generally now. (Theses are all just my opinions, of course).I think what Billie means by power-pop would be more pop-punk or pop-rock. Not like FTSK style, I'm sure.Oh and from being super into all this poppy rock music, I've concluded that power pop generally also includes synth. Green Day won't use that I can almost guarantee you. Blu
I saw The Maine and Metro Station live at the same show. I wouldn't put them in the same category. Metro Station is techno and The Maine isn't. At least that's how it was when I saw them a few months ago.Power-pop almost makes me think of Avril Lavigne. I like Avril, so I don't mind that idea, but I'm sure others of you wouldn't like it.
