according to this article

Global crisis made Madonna, Neil Diamond, Green Day, and Metallica put their Aussie tour dates on hold.

Beside Madonna, Neil Diamond, Paul McCartney, Eagles, Green Day, and Metallica also scrapped their Aussie tour dates due to the economic crisis

I heard they had venues booked in the UK guess they had them booked in Australia as well.

Fabulous, i hope they don't cut their touring here in the states :( A friend of a friend of mine lives in Aussie, and she saw Pink live the other day. Hmm makes you wonder.

NO!! I want them to come to Australia.... this is fucked up. The world's economy is fucked up, and just when I thought it couldn't get any worse I find out that it has results in my favourite band cancelling tour dates?

I'm still hoping this is not true.

Well I read another article and it said they put it ON HOLD. so that is better news than canceling all together.

Hmm sounds like one of those articles that was written in a hurry, with a quick list of other artists stuck in there to make the point they were making about the economic crisis. I think it's most likely a mistake.

could be, but there are articles all over the net, and the last one said industry insiders said and listed those bands mentioned.

I hope they dont have to cancel anyone. :(

Yeah, I doubt they would even know Green Day had set tour dates, let alone that they'd cancelled or postponed them. We all know Green Day don't like to let their info out easily. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see.

The only source I can find at the minute is the Sydney Sunday Telegraph.

:( Me too! I'm just gonna wait and find out, I won't worry about it yet.

I'll try and adopt your attitude but it's still going to be haunting me at the back of my mind from now on. -sigh-

You don't have to worry at all they apparently have lots of gigs booked in the UK. :)

Oh really? I didn't know they'd reached that stage in the proceedings yet. That's brilliant

I would feel bad for anyone who had dates cancelled though. But still I really doubt they'd miss out Australia just to save a few quid. If I was Australian, I wouldn't worry too much.

the album is set to be released in the spring.

Spring starts in March. So they would have to have venues, tour buses, hotels, caterers and all that stuff booked by now for a world tour.

If they have a new album out, tickets will sell. If tickets sell, there will be touring. Right now Green Day doesn't have much attention in the mainstream music media.

Lol yeah you're right. You would think that would be obvious to anyone, but not to me apparantly

Aren't Green Day all like... multi-millonaires?

yes and so are Madonna, Neil Diamond, Paul McCarthney, the Eagles, Metallica etc.

If this is true its most likely a record company decision, its no ones fault the dollar has dropped by a third, but no company is gonna wanna lose money.

they could never cancel a tour somewhere all together. although it does seem kind of odd.

so it's just on hold, i guess that means at least they're considering their tour this early on.

Once again though, they put out a new album, they give it a few months for the world to observe it, and then they embark on a huge world tour. A tour is more successful when attention is on a band. And tickets are going to sell. There are enough people on this site alone who would sell one of their kidneys to go see a Green Day show.

I highly doubt this is true. I doubt there are even set dates for anything yet. The boys still in studio and no album yet pretty much should mean 'no tour yet.'

Maybe if they weren't recording still I'd think it were possible, but they aren't going to tour while they're in studio. Let alone cancel dates... or postpone or whatever.
