I'm surprised more people don't remember what it was like when the forum split, but it stands to reason that if it was going so great, it wouldn't have been merged again. To me, both forums suffered - the Green Day one was empty most of the time, and General was just a bunch of random threads. It's the energy of community that makes this place work, imo - all of us being literally on the same page together, whether or not we disagree or have little power struggles or whatever. I think we'd be better off trying to address people's grievances about the negative reception Green Day threads sometimes get than throwing in the towel altogether.

Amen!

Because that's what people want to post.

If someone wants to really contribute to their place then I can respect their opinions. I have no respect for the people who post once every few months in request of some kind of Green Day file or news and never give shit back to us.

They were right, you are wrong. Its true. People can go where they want to. It just makes it more organized. And who are you to say many of the people that don't come around very often wouldnt start if they didnt have to tolerate the bullshit around here?

They are not celebrities and they jam the forum talking about themselves and some really boring topics. Some of them no longer even care for the band. I notice it seems to be a lot of the die hard fans who vote for a split. Their opinion should count more.

No. "die-hard fans" should not have their opinions worth more than those who haven't listened to the band in a few months.

everyone here is, or should be, on an equal level here. im not even sure how to reply to this but something sounds off with what you are saying.

We like to talk about ourselves a little. okay, i get it. doesn't everybody? it's a part of who we are being projected into a community. it becomes personal.

i dont see how that would play into the "who's a bigger fan and why" pissing contest. Each thread has something to contribute. if a person doesn't like the thread, they stay clear from it. it's pretty simple.

They were right, you are wrong.

It seems like this thread is displaying an attitude that's splitting the members up, more than the forums.

No not everyone wants to be personal here.

beth, i think that statement doesn't apply to either of us.

i was just saying that something seemed wrong with what they were saying. there aren't elite opinions with this!

you dont need to worry about that. This is a place where people are discussing their opinion, and John and mine happens to differ.

The customer, or in this case, member is always right. :D

Regular members who actually give a shit enough to contribute, how about that? Look, I'm not basing this on post count. Captain Peroxide has less than a 1000 posts last time I checked and he is one of the best contributors we've had for awhile. I'm not even basing it on time here, one8two for example, fit right in from the time he joined. So it's not about post count or how long you've been here, but there is a way to measure contribution.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with people who generally talk about Green Day and stay out of certain subforums. For example, I hardly ever go in the picture forum or the media forums. So someone who wants to be a good contributor doesn't have to partake in general chat if they don't want to, but if someone gives the effort, people here will eventually get to know and respect them if they aren't a leech.

So I have nothing against people only talking about Green Day as long as they discuss it and add intelligent thought, instead of leeching by requesting a Green Day video link once a month or asking extremely retarded questions usually pertaining to the personal lives of the band members.

I do not want to see contributions to leeches continue.

True that. This is a Green Day forum not an express your feelings forum. I'll still go on the General thread if it was split. I dont see whats so wrong about splitting them up.

I expect Beth to clash with me on certain opinions. I don't want her to say "Well John, maybe you're right on this...", what good would come out of that? This is a debate like any other. I feel I'm right and hope the people on the other side feel they're right as well.

And by the way, those who wish to read about Green Day news and not discuss anything have GDA to do so. GDA has proven to be a very good source for Green Day fans. I would assume if someone joins GDC however, they no longer just want to read but now want to talk.

If someone comes on only once a month and asks a question or asks for a link im sure people would have no problem giving them an answer. I wouldnt mind giving a not so active member some help or information.

In reading through the comments I don't understand why people say it would be really boring if there was a split. It sounds to me like they may be the kind of people who want to chatter about all different topics. If it was split they could still do this in the general section. I don't have the time to post hundreds of messages a week and this doesn't interest me. I don't know why they feel it is important for fans of the band to read about their opinions on other things or their negative opinions about the band.

What's really boring to me is wading through endless topics to try and find info about the band. I'd rather there was a section soley about the band, even if it did get quieter at times.

If someone is interested in something fairly normal, like a demo of an older song somewhere, or who was one of Green Day's old producers, that doesn't annoy me too much, though I still wish they would contribute a bit, it isn't really a problem either way. But I don't want to see "So wen Billie died his hair y did he do it it looked cooler black now he looks all weird but hes still hot", or "I herd Mike's kids go to this school is it true?"

We have a search engine in case you didn't notice.

That non-sense chat can be stopped if a mod pins a list of rules for the forum such as no OMgZz BilliE jo€ IZ s0o0o Hawt chat or whatever.

MANY want to talk about the BAND (not what restaraunt is serving breast milk this week)

The Band is what led them to GDA in the first place, which then led them to GDC.

We already have rules and people already ignore them.

If we can build some kind of anti-stupid barrier we can split the forums in whatever damn way anyone wants and I wouldn't care in the least. But I view a person who is just too stupid in the same way I view a troll.

cause having rules posted will make us follow them

but on this matter i say whatever, kind of interesting to see what will happen, and if not then hey, its the same so nothing wrong there.

It is until you develop ways to use it. I usually just change it to "search titles only" and try to use broad terms, it works almost every time.

Wasn't there a thread made for the correct use of the GDC search tool?

Anyone care to dig it up? :P

I am sure people that don't spend 20 hrs of their day on here would want to waste their time trying to figure that out. .
