Splitting Green Day and General chat

I used to be sort of for something like this, but after thinking about it for a while, it would probably kill this place. We've usually got a good flow of threads with the combination of the two.

well yeah, cause they haven't done anything lately. by nature of the forum its self, topics that are worth talking about stay on the first or second page while things that have been beaten to death slowly die, as they should. when there's something worth talking about, it'll be front page. honestly, what else is there to say in the FHT thread other than "omg. the rev is so hot." and "i hated them i want more green day!" ?

and the forum looks wierd when nothing is pinned.

I think they should be split. Like a lot of people here said, not everyone here wants to talk about Green Day, and those who do will have to dig through threads about bears mulling boaters, breast milk in Swedish food, and tattoos to get to what they want. So why not have a section soley for Green Day-related stuff? It could also help out a lot when all the temporary Green Day fanatics come when the new album comes out. They'll have a place to go and talk about how "hawt" BJ is instead of clogging up the biggest subsection of the site. It won't split up big fans and not-so-big fans because not everyone comes here to only talk about one thing. That's the nice thing about this site: it's diverse, so anyone can find things to talk about no matter how big of a fan they are.

Even though I wasn't here when it was split before, I can totally imagine it would makes things boring.

I never have any problem finding Green Day threads as it is, and I never did when there was more news (with the Foxboro stuff) either. If there's news, there's news. If there isn't, there isn't - splitting the forums won't change that.

I think it would be a shame to split them because it would also split up a lot of people on here. I like people who are big fans and people who aren't, I prefer them mixed.

I do think people should be made to feel more free to discuss Green Day though. This is a Green Day forum, and some of us are still very passionate about the band and enjoy talking about them. Surely everyone can respect that somehow without being so drastic as to do a split?

I agree with everything she just wrote lol I don't think the whole thing should be split, either, I don't see why people can choose not to go into the GD threads, or to go into them. Why do they have to be in a completely different section? it's a Green Day forum... Also, i think we should be more free to discuss GD, too. I've noticed there are WAY WAY WAY more threads not pertaining to GD than there are that do. Not that GD is the center of the universe, and I enjoy all the threads, but more GD would be nice... but I don't think the whole place should be split, that's too much.

It didn't go so well last time.

Though, as you said, when Green Day started popping up in the news again, it's gonna be an explosion. So, I say do it now while it's easy, deal with the slowness for the next couple months or so, and it'll pay off when they come back.

the cons outweigh the pros- or maybe i'm not partial to change.

leaving green day and general chat as one forum seems fine to me, we get a good mixture of green day threads and regular ones.

if the issue of green day fans wanting a place for themselves to chat arises, well, isn't this what gdc is in the first place? we dont need an elite forum just for green day. that's how it is on GDF, and that forum gets visits by at most, 6 people a day. im not joking. and both general and green day forums are dead.

i understand from reading the green day grapevine thread that there have been some controversy on the subject, but we have all gotten on well with eachother up to this point.

as for the rush of new fans, they will adapt to how things work around here, just as we all have, and those who dont will leave for be forced to leave.

people who are for the split make very good points, but for the moment i still stick to my side of the vote.

whatever will be best for gdc, i will support the decision.

It's not as dying as other sites have died off. It's still very strong maybe not when there was Green Day news but its not dead.

Exactly what I think, if there was more Green Day news then the section would already be booming as it is. It would be good to wait till there is more news and that section may be busy.

Although I don't think they should ever be split at all, I agree they definitely shouldn't be split yet. Yeah, it's quite likely that we'll hear Green Day news soon, but for all we know they could decide to go on hiatus for a year, and then where would we be with a split forum? The Green Day section would just completely die in that situation.

but i dont think that we have gotten to that point. things could be going much worse and to pull the trigger prematurely may make things worse.

if you want the analogy (as terrible as it will be), it's like having a chance of disease, pulling the trigger, death not working, and then you lie there with a painful wound in your skull and the lurking threat of a disease.
