The topic was brought up in the mod forum, and I'll say it here - I completely disapprove of an appearance thread, or the idea of a general GD chat thread.

I've never been a fan of those discussions, whether your a new fan thats mature or a 12 year old teenie. I think it makes our community look bad because I'd prefer that this remain a group of people devoted to their music. I realize it's just fun, and you're all serious fans of their work, but I feel like it undermines our value as a community when we have a gaggle of people who constantly feel the need to talk about how much they love Billie Joe's hair and all the naughty things they wanna do with him.

I know I'm being kind of a hardass about this, and I apologize if I sound rude. It's not that I feel it's taboo, i feel that those types of discussions are what the other sites do. GSB was filled with people in love with their looks and it makes them look like a group of people who follow around britney spears because she's hot (arguably). It seems to belittle our community into fandom of the wrong things. Sure it's just one part, but it's one part that I'd rather not have here because I don't think it adds any value to our community.

Green Day has never been a band that I admire because they are good looking guys. So the thought of promoting that type of discussion here is pretty far fetched for me.

I understand your feelings on the matter. In all fairness you are right most of it is all just joking around, of course we are huge fans of the band. I personally think you should reconsider splitting this forum into general and green day again when something starts happening. I know so may people that are huge fans of the band that would come here if it was split. They don't now because of all these meaningless threads that are here in general. I think they make the forum look uhm way more immature than discussing the guys in the band.

Sometimes even simply describing the facts of something Green Day themselves have done feels like it's taboo because it's too "rude". Well Green Day are a bit rude sometimes

It's your forum so you get your way and I respect that. But what pisses me off is the bunch of grouches that like to "get creeped out" at some of the things said on here - frankly it's laughable, especially with the point that Beth makes:

This forum is different things to different people; personally it's my "down time" and is a bit of fun - along with being a great source of information and way to share my passion of the band. You can tailor it any way you want - but if you value diversity you will encourage some members to engage with their sense of humour. Pervy, or otherwise.

i way prefer coming on here and seeing loads of stuff about green day and music than random irrelevant crap. i always figure threads like those should go into the off topic thread.

also, when someone starts a thread like "in verse 2 of track 8 on this album, can anyone else hear that guitar slide, is that on purpose, do you know if it was recorded in the same session..?", i LOVE stuff like that, if i didn't i wouldn'tve got an account on a gren day fansite. but everyone always seems to reply things like "who cares? loser." i mean come on people, we're all members on this site, we have no right to cast judgement on the completely and utterly obsessed (ahem..). surely it's better to have stuff like that than nothing on green day at all?

Meaningless threads in general are just about the only thing to pass the time here while Green Day stays quiet, I don't see how thats immature compared to a dozen or so people filling threads with crap about Billie Joe.

Don't take that the wrong way. All of you are an important part of this forum, but I know that this stuff will just get out hand later on when the band is in the news again. At that point we'll have a bunch of 14 and 15 year olds, i don't wanna have to reverse on a decision and instead I'll just spare me the "but they did it" comments then.

Still not sure about splitting forums. I know every other forum in the world splits their forums, but this has worked for us for nearly 4 years. I'll keep it in mind and continue to look for alternatives.

But the bigger point is not that I'm creeped out by it, it's just something I'd prefer stayed to a minimum here. It's not because I'm a prude, it's because I feel it cheapens the image of the band when they're talked about as some sort of glorified sex gods. They're not a boy band, and i feel it really lowers the bar of conversation.

We have the occasional thread about the way they look when they come out of their hiding and we get a new photo, we have 300-400 posts about the way they look, and whatever, not a big deal. But i'd rather we not open it up to a permanent perving thread.

Yes, it annoys me that when we do get a new picture or whatever, there are some people who post up 'Who cares?' and things like that. Some people need to remember, even if they no longer like Green Day, that this is a Green Day forum and being able to discuss members of the band is considerably more relevant than discussing what keeps you awake during the night. There are still a lot of big fans here who get excited at the mere mention of the guys, and some members should really respect that.

anything I see in this forum is all about everything but Green Day. thats what i call a great "fanism". many of Green Day fans ,pay attention to this word, were present at FHT shows, while they just preferred kissing Billie and touching him instead of asking the band

why u didnt get a response to our Q&A??.

i didn't say it was bad. i said it had more important things on my mind, like the fact that i was sorta in awe of being right in front of them.

i think GreenDay matters are more important than FHT's. u can understand that we know of FHT because of GreenDay.

maybe its only me but i still believe it was sort of respection to us if they reply to that.

and Andres, u were a representative of GDC members there,so u shouldnt only think of ur own favourites u should think of our's too which was the Q&A delay.
