Z J
to resume this thread pretty much green day work is underated besides the hits I agree. Not a lot of mainstream music places seem to realize just how good they are. Green Day is kind of put in the corner b/c of their genre, look, and attitude. But their lyrics and instruments are so so underrated. Hopefully they will be recognized eventually.

Hopefully they will be recognized eventually. exactly what you said about the gender, the look and the attitude. they're not considered as good as the big bands (AC/DC, Nirvana, Pink Floyd, the Beatles i can go on) and they're not considered to be part of the new gender pop right now either (hopefully). they're kinda between both. as you said they DO have the talent, but their look and gender just change the way people consider them. (because the appearence is more important than ever right now). that's why i doubt they will ever be seen as a legendary band as the names above. JesusOfChristiansSuburbia
I feel like Homecoming is really underrated and ignored. It's a pivotal song in the story of American Idiot. So much happens in it, and it's so emotional. JoS kinda loses his sense of self and gives up. Along with that, it's their longest song. That has to mean a little something. People write it off because of the album it's on, but I personally love American Idiot. You always hear about BOBD or the title song or WMUWSE, but I've never heard a single Green Day fan (In my own personal life) ever mention Homecoming. Admittedly, I've even cried once because of it...

So many people like JoS better because it introduces him, but they tend to forget about what he goes through.
Jon Herroon
Warning was their biggest flop, but I think it's really good. Definitely one of the most under rated along with shenanigans. (I consider it an album, shut up.)
SanderNMTTD
Albums:Insomniac, Nimrod and Shenanigans. Songs:Dirty Rotten Bastards, Deadbeat Holiday, Prosthetic Head, 86, Why Do You Want Him, Ha Ha Your Dead and many more!
deadair
Kerplunk! Not necessarily my favorite Green Day album (that would probably be American Idiot or Nimrod), but I think it is their most underrated. Considering the tiny shoe-string budget it was made on, it is an incredible album. The songs definitely withstand the test of time.
Tre_Archer
Most underrated song has to be Redundant, followed closely by Prosthetic Head. Both are timeless songs with timeless messages , yet I never hear anyone as really a fan of them. For me, they're both top 10 Green Day songs. Redundant's music video is very good as well. The most underrated album is probably Kerplunk, but Nimrod is a close second. Kerplunk wavers expertly between trademark Billie Joe sarcastic snarling lyrics, and sorrowful remorse. Its just great, and as a teen so easy to relate to.

Tre_Archer
I feel like I've replied to this before.... not sure. Anyway, I think most underrated album is either 1039 Smoothed out Slappy Hours OR Kerplunk. Both are early, so they have a tinny sound, but they're insanely good. Some of the songs on Kerplunk are actually fantastic, the lyrics are so meaningful and brilliantly written. So many tunes off that album, Words I might have ate, Christie Road, Who wrote Holden Caulfield, my personal favs. Most underrated song is probably Going to Pasalacqua, so fun to sing and powerful lyrics. Bit catchy as well! Other underrated songs are Misery, Poprocks and Coke, J.A.R, Walking Contradiction, Emenius Sleepus, and 16. I think Redundant is probably one of Green Day's best ever songs, but it never comes up in a discussion for top 5. Feel like its just behind Good Riddance, Basket Case, and JOS. greenalert997x
In my opinion every song that wasn't chosen to be a single could be consider underrated. 龑美優
Which album is underrated really depends on the crowd we are talking about. Any number of their albums could be underrated because certain people have preconcieved notions about them, or don't give them the proper chance or appreciate I'd think said album deserves. One could even say American Idiot is underrated if we take a look at the Dookie-only type crowd. In my opinion, Kerplunk is certainly underrated, and at times I myself underrate it. I also agree with the notion that 21ztCBD is overshadowed by the success and adoration of American idiot, so it is also arguably pretty underrated. It is such a fantastic and solid record. Miko
Easily ¡Dos!. I don't quite get it how it doesn't get enough praise (since there is only one not-so-much-liked song) when it has strong start with quiet and chill ''See You Tonight'' which goes directly to Fuck Time what other hand tells you exactly what this album is about. Then it goes full rock'n roll with Stop When The Red Lights Flash with some hangoverish songs like Lazy Bones and Wild One. Then the party starts again with Stray Heart and partying never stops with songs like Ashley, Baby Eyes and Lady Cobra. Nightlife in other hand is really experimental song and I fucking love how sexy that song can be. After that comes one last party with Wow! That's Loud and it ends with full of distortion and it's time to sing goodbye with Amy. As you can see, has this party theme going on with every song and I can say that these songs are really awesome drinking songs and this album is by far my most favorite from Green Day. It's criminally underrated in every place and I think no one can really argue with that statement. Letterbomb, Extraordinary Girls, 89/Smooth or Kerplunk aren't underrated at all and those songs/albums gets their love everywhere especially in Reddit. ¡Dos! is full of sex, swearing, guitar solos and power. And I gotta say, I fucking love it.
FallOutBoyFan470
I recently got into green day and am totally obsessed now. I haven't heard all their stuff though. A few songs that I think are underrated are Give Me Novocaine, iViva La Gloria!, and Having a Blast, but I've only heard a few albums. What do you think are some underrated songs? BilIie Joe Armstrong
If I'm to name a few that never even got released on a proper album, I'll go with Suffocate, Desensitised and On The Wagon. How did these end up as B sides?
