FilmAdaptation
For the record, I think in-car breathalyzers to get the car started is a great idea, as long as they don't make them obtrusive.
netty
The thing about taking up drunk driving as a protest is SO OBVIOUSLY a joke.I don't think it matters how serious his offence was. He's been arrested and punished according to the law already. Once that has happened to someone they should be free to go on with their lives. The media shouldn't be allowed to choose to punish someone futher in this disproportionate way.I dont care if it was a joke or not! if it was... sorry but its bloody pathetic! as I said before... Billie is being used because he has a huge fan base. its a way of getting the message through. if he hadnt been convicted for this, hadn`t admitted it then yeah... I`d be pissed off about this. but the guy did it. yes, he paid the price... but if it gets the message through to some idiot of a fan that driving while drunk is bloody stupid then so be it! sorry but what would you prefer? you want to see the actual results of drink driving splashed all over your tv screen? sorry but drink driving is something that too many people say "oh yeah,... its nasty. only idiots do that." then go and get into their car and wioe out a complete family because they couldnt be arsed walking home from the pub! Hermione
I think if Billie Joe or anyone else wants to put out an anti drink driving message, great, but it should be up to them. Unless they've been sentenced to do it as part of their punishment (which does happen), they shouldn't be obligated. I don't think people who commit crimes should be humiliated or have their offence exaggerated, especially if it's done by the media long after the offence has already been dealt with. What right do they have to decide to punish him further? They are not the courts.

924Nimrod
Jeez, you think they could have found someone other than a guy with one DUI 5 years ago? Mel Gibson, anybody?Haha. Tell me about it
netty
Mel has a lot of fans,. but maybe Billie has more fans who are of the age who might do this just to be "punk/hard core/stupid. its the target audience. never mind the person they are using..... look at the most active members on the forums. there are huge numbers of older fans who dont take any notice of forums... or on line news... but for those who do... I think they hit the target. the result might not be what they wanted.... but they certainly scored a hit with you guys.
Trotsky
^ But it was a one time thing. Although it was bad, and he was way over the limit, it only happened once, and he's kept a clean slate ever since with the law. They make him out to be an alcoholic mess who drives drunk all the time, and that just isn't the case.Though neither is very good at all, someone driving with a .08 3 different occassions is not as dangerous as someone with a .18 driving once. You understand what .18 is? It's blurred vision, not being able to walk a few feet without tripping. And you don't know if he's driven drunk again, he's just only been caught once. For the record, I think in-car breathalyzers to get the car started is a great idea, as long as they don't make them obtrusive. It's a fucking retarded idea. It's costly, it's a major infringement, and you could always have a friend start it for you.

It's costly, it's a major infringement, and you could always have a friend start it for you.I'm pretty sure it could get subsidized somehow, so I doubt it would be too costly. I said as long as it isn't obtrusive, and if you do have a friend there that can start it for you, why not have them drive you? Either way, it would cut down the number of drunk drivers by a lot which would increase the number of lives not lost, and I'm sure that is better than any small economic expense occurred. Trotsky
If you had a cop randomly pulling you over to check you for DUI every day you'd call it an infringement on your rights, so why is it okay if done by an automatic machine?
Joey
If you had a cop randomly pulling you over to check you for DUI every day you'd call it an infringement on your rights, so why is it okay if done by an automatic machine?Bollocks. It'd be an infringement of my right to life if some cunt had too much booze and decided they were safe enough to drive a car, end up crashing and kill me. Drink driving is something that should be punishable by more than just a fine as it is willingly committed, putting every other person's (pedestrian or driver) life at risk. Hermione
It shouldn't be up to the media or us to hand him another sentence if they think he deserves it. He was dealt with under the law of the land. If he got off light in some random person's opinion, tough! Why don't we get a mob together and go and lynch him?

farley drexel hatcher
As far as I know Billie got community service and I assume a driving ban, which in my opnion is getting off lightly considering that he was way over the limit and could have easily killed someone or himself. But my argument is against using 'celebrities' in those ads at all; I don't think it's fair or needed and I would say the same no matter who was featured.
