I get that all the time.

I used to be friends with this guy, Eric, until he found out I liked Green Day. He stopped talking to me after that.

The next time someone names those two songs, I'm going to say this, "Ok. What about At The Library? Paper Lanterns? 2000 Lightyears Away? Christie Road? Welcome To Paradise. Fuck Off and Die... No, I'm not naming the song... I'm telling you, fuck off and die!"

LMFAO

Guess what? Not everyone in the world has heard every Green Day song! :o Have you known ALL of those songs you mentioned your whole life? No.

How would you like it if someone thought you were an idiot just because you weren't familiar with the entire back catalogue of their favourite band? Maybe if you recommended them some songs instead of insulting them they might end up liking Green Day and getting into them. Maybe they wouldn't. Who cares?

yea remember, we all started out like that. wether it was an American Idiot song or a Dookie song or any of the others. We got into green day knowing only a few and then expanded.

People assume I have a crap music taste. I give them a brief version of The Clash's history, and then they are reformed in their beliefs.

I used to have assumptions made about me all the time.

"I liked Green Day before American Idiot... you probably didn't." which I found funny because though it wasn't as early as some fans, it was still Warning... which doesn't matter anyway. Besides, so many people claim to have been fans since Dookie, and they were like 4 at the time Dookie came out, and it's like "Yeah, okay. If you say so."

"BOBD is your favorite song, isn't it?"

"You probably won't like them once the hype from AI fades away."

Etc...

Now people just accept the fact that I'm a Green Day fan and don't make silly assumptions.

^ hey i grew up with green day.

my parents have videos of me headbanging to brain stew as a little kid.

i think i can reserve the right to say i was a gd fan when i was little.

i knew most of their songs by age 7.

Never said everyone who claims it is making it up. But honestly, how many of the people that actually say it and were little kids when the shit came out are actually telling the truth?

I was like 6 when Dookie came out. My father had the album. I don't remember it, I don't remember getting into them as a child, and just because I heard it as a kid doesn't mean I claim I've been a fan since then, because I haven't been.

I think alot of the people who say that have been in similar situations. Their parents or whatever listened to it, they heard it too, and claim to have been fans since then even though they didn't get into them until later on.

haha. That's really cool!

And no, I've never been judged for liking Green Day. Actually, most people don't know I like the kind of music I do. But this one time, I was wearing a GD shirt, and this kid walks by me and goes "GREEN DAY SUCKS!" and I just kept walking. He's quite the 'tard.

that actually stopped me from wearing my 2 green day shirts for about a full year. i wore it out for the first time in a while last week.

im not as afraid of what people think of them anymore. ever since i found this place i feel like it's okay to be a green day fan again.

When I used to wear any of the American Idiot shirts in 2005 or so, I used to get alot of the "They're sell-outs, they suck now" shit, but I never stopped wearing them. I mean, why does it matter what they think anyway? You like what you like, and their opinion can't change that.

It's good that you feel better about wearing them now though. They shouldn't be able to get to you like that. :)

I wouldn't even tell anyone I like them

What's wrong with people only knowing a few songs from a band?

i think its annoying cause if someone says they are fans of a band and they have only herd a few song i dont think they are true fans.

Oh God. Define 'true fan'

You can be a fan of a band and not know every little thing there is about them, or even all their songs.

It's perfectly possible for someone to like a few songs of the bands and be a fan. You don't have to know or like every single thing a band does.

so what if they aren't true fans? how does that affect your life?

yes...

Well, it is.

The guy who only likes a few songs by band X has caused whatshisface up there to proclaim that 'the guy' is not a true fan. That caused you to post "how has him not being a true fan affected your life", which took you time and brain power. The guy who only likes a few songs by band X has, in effect, caused you to lose a few valuable seconds from your limited time on this planet.

So it has affected you.

:)

Haha. I'm a smartarse.

^ i am glad to have you back in power

:)

Brown-noser.

Power is only a concept.

haha. well we could argue about if that fits the definition of affected, but i'll go with it.
