But wow, I didn't realize that not everyone has the same sort of graduation. Here, all the seniors get together a few days after school's out and we all walk across the stage and get our diploma. I mean, you would still graduate even if you didn't show up...it's more of a symbolic thing.

It's not like attending graduation doesn't mean you don't get your diploma, it just means that you skip 3 hours of a boring reading of names to get something that could easily be mailed to you.

To be honest I doubt I'd even go to a graduation if I had nothing else to do that night. But that's just me, I'm not social at all.

I don't like weddings or funerals or baby showers either. I go when it's appropriate but "events", I'm never big on.

Point is, it's much better to mosh your ass off at a show of a band you love than to go to a boring graduation ceremony.

My high school graduation is coming up, and I'm sure a lot of other people on this board are graduating from either high school or college soon as well.

So today I was thinking...if Green Day ended up playing in or near your city on the same day as your Graduation, and there was no way that you could go to both of them, which would you choose?

I think I finally decided that I would see Green Day. They've been one of my biggest motivations during the last four years of my life, and I've looked forward to seeing them more than almost anything else in the world. I know that missing Graduation would be terrible, but honestly, what would you miss? I would much rather be jumping up and down screaming along with every word of Green Day's songs for two hours, then be sitting in a giant auditorium of high school students just waiting to walk across the stage and be done with it. And besides, my last name is Zoellner, so I bet everyone will be asleep by the time they call my name.

What about you guys?

graduation. Mom and Dad would kill me if i went to see GREEN DAY because they think all i do is walk around with headphones in my ears all day and they ain't no green day fans, neither!! plus you graduate once green day will be around for a long time even after i graduate (long time from now!!!).

Once again, I'm going to clarify. This is not a choice between going to a show and getting a diploma, it's a choice between going to a show or a symbolic ceremony. It's not like your schoolwork becomes meaningless, you still get the diploma.

People should do what's more fun for them, and I can't imagine graduation ever being more fun than a concert, unless you're planning some huge after party, in which case, that's a major coin flip.

i remembered something about high school finishing. i never bothered to go collect my certificates with my grades on. i'm not even sure if i have them now but meh, i can remember my grades. no one's asked for proof.

Graduation sucks, I chose to go to graduation instead of Key West for vacation. I regret it to this day, you graduate no matter what, it's just a bullshit boring ceremony filled with people you neither care about or never will see again.

I'd rather attend my graduation mass then a green day concert but if it was one of my favourite bands there is a chance I'd go to that instead.. but always they end up having to do 2 or more shows so I'd be safe.
