It's true:

'Holiday In Cambodia', recorded at TOTP but never aired. Shame, really.

Don't say that, please !! Unfortunately I'm superstitious  , so don't say that !!

And I think that Mike and Billie Hate to use a plane. No, it was an helicopter.

Don't worry, he's just being silly!

Yeah I remember hearing that at Woodstock 2 Mike and Billie were too scared to go in a helicopter because apparantly there's no scientific reason why helicopters can fly :o. In the end they had to be airlifted to safety because of the mudfight anyway so they had no choice

I desagree.

Some of the punk bands don't hate Green Day.But,on the other hand, there are bands who hate them.

And I think Green Day ARE in the punk scene.

Well,I don't think it could be true. They can't live without music(if the band isn't called Green Day is called The network band,The Foxboro Hot Tubs,The Frustrators,Pinhead gunpowder...).

But,I know, they will leave music behind one day.

Most of those 'punk' bands conform ridgidly to the 'rules' that apparantly have to apply and all sound the same. I thought punk was about a lifestyle of non conformity. Green Day came from a local punk scene and continue to support it despite the ungrateful and jealous backlash.

How the fuck can anyone criticise them for being on a major label when every one of the 'original' punk bands that they love so much was on a major? I'm glad they don't conform to a set of music rules like those boring bands and I'm sure they couldn't care less if some uncreative loser is bitter about their success!

Green Day aren't in the 'punk' scene because they're better than it.

I don't have a problem with major label bands. There are plenty that I listen to. Green Day is not punk. They came from a scene, but they left it.

I was referring to the hypocritical people who DO have a problem with it.

I think if you define punk as simple a description of music or as being part of a scene, Green Day aren't that. But if you define it as a way of life and an approach to music where you do what you want, they are more punk than any of the bands that conform and don't experiment for fear of being kicked out of the cool little scene. Have you heard the crap John Lydon has said about Green Day? What a bitter old man.

This doesn't apply to anyone on here, but they are certainly more punk than any armchair critic listening to some hardcore punk band on an ipod their parent's bought them who calls them 'sell-outs'.

Also, through Adeline records and other projects they have supported their local punk scene and community more than most.

I agree with you.

I  you!

Here's an article-

"John Lydon has hit out at Green Day calling them “plonk” and accusing them of stealing the term ‘punk’.

The former Sex Pistols front man says the US trio are a watered down version of the true punk ethos according to contactmusic.

He said: "Don't try and tell me Green Day are punk. They're not, they're plonk and they're bandwagoning on something they didn't come up with themselves. I think they are phony."

He added on the subject of the Sex Pistols battle with the establishment: "The government's against you, the police are on you. So there we are fending off all that and it pisses me off that years later a wank outfit like Green Day hop in and nick all that and attach it to themselves.”

"They didn't earn their wings to do that and if they were true punk they wouldn't look anything like they do." "

 at this- "If they were punk they wouldn't look anything like they do"

I have heard numerous other examples of him slagging them off. He has also said if they were punk they'd still be driving around in a bookmobile! This is coming from a man who lives in LA and went on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.

Sad old man much?

John Lydon is a prick. The last vestiges of his 'credibility' went with that jungle thing he did on ITV.

The Lydon stuff has been done to death in various threads.

So has everything to do with Green Day, but we still persist.

True, I guess I'm just flogging a dead horse and trying to remember the point of this thread in the first place.
