how do you know that reprise stopped that and not the band themselves?

as for the matter of the lyrics not being printed... is that not down to others rather than reprise? obscenity laws and what not.

Well that's how I read it. I don't remember where though. Why would Green Day, of all bands, censor themselves?? I think we all know them better than that. I know Mike doesn't have a big problem with it, because in Roeker's Making of American Idiot, he says that censoring something catches people's attention and makes them want to know more... but I doubt they censored themselves on 'insomniac' and 'nimrod.'

The thing about BIAB is that it was not a suppose to be a "live DVD" in the likes of AC/DC Live At Donnington. but A Concert Movie., Like lynyrd skynyrd's Free Bird, or AC/DC's Let There Be Rock.

The Differance between the 2 is simply the interviews. The interview/cutsceen parts are what make it a Concert Movie. as opposed to Live at donning ton wich was just a full concert chater and all, with any interviews as a bonus feature.

And.. because it was a "MOVIE" the accompaneing CD was actually The Sound Track. which is why it only features the songs featured in the movie.

BIAB has pissed me off lately.

they cut out Jaded, and left out alot of other really good songs. They even played some stuff from 39/smooth that day and they only kept the songs that were made into music videos so everyone who bought the movie knew the songs. I wish they had an un-edited version.

anyway, from previous points you have made, it seems unlikely that Green Day would fully sign over to Adeline records.

I know it wouldn't work for Green Day to not be on a major label, but it does seem like the label has a little too much control sometimes. Surely they wouldn't have agreed to those lame ringtones if it wasn't for Warners. When I see them doing things they clearly aren't enjoying (eg presenting video countdowns), I wonder why they don't use their considerable power to say no more often.

i agree those ringtones suck. they should be better quality and should play a little longer than just the same verses over & over. my friend made her own GD ringtones that play out the whole song...lucky...

we all should do that & share!

there's no reason for that to happen, green day is reprise records' favorite son

I didn't make the news. Doesn't anyone else remember this?? I'm not just making this up. Someone MUST recall the issue over Platypus... and as for Green Day censoring themselves on the song, why would they write it and release it in the first place if they weren't comfortable printing the lyrics?? Come on now people, think! Just because Green Day made Reprise a lot of money, doesn't mean Reprise is going to back up anything Green Day want to do.

Agreed. And wasn't it Warner/Reprise who has been delaying the Heart Like A Hand Grenade release? Bastards! :P

we should make a petition asking Sam Bayer for the entire BIAB concerts.

and btw what 39/smooth song did they play.

Can I in a year when you're legal? LOL

I assume they didn't have the rights to We Are the Champions... which is truly sad because it was the big finale with the fireworks and confetti. Not sure why Knowledge wasn't included, since they obviously got the rights to do the cover in the first place and now Warner/Reprise is the label for 1,039 SOSH... but there is NO reason to leave out Jaded... or Maria!!! And I would have loved to have seen Homecoming on there as well... UGH

they probably can't show knowledge cause the kids (or parents) didn't allow it.

I was wondering why you would have written that. We should all go to Norway and kick that dude's ass. Have you tried editing your post? Tho, if you do.... my horribly dirty comment I made afterwards will no longer make sense. LOL

I reckon Green Day could do it, after all Motley Crue did it they split from Elektra Records and onto their own Label Motley Records.. which is a sub division of 10th Street Entertainment which also supports bands such as Buckcherry, Papa Roach, Trapt, Meatloaf and so on..

Well, NOFX moved from Epitaph to Fat Wreck; but I suppose Epitaph is really just a larger indie label. But they're doing fine on Fat. But because NOFX have had the whole 'punk' thing going on for ages, they can do no wrong in the eyes of most punk fans. If Green Day left Reprise then I don't think they could make it work simply because of all the shit they've had in the past about selling out.

social distortion? that band that made story of my life and has dissappeared from the world since the 90's?

adeline is a great label, but it would never be able to bring the records to the masses.

plus music videos, wallpapers, ringtones etc, reprise takes care of all that. bj wouldnt have the time

I think it'd be interesting if they left for Adeline. But then you know people would just be accusing Billie Joe of trying to make even more money by using his own label.

And i'm not sure if Adeline would be able to handle the amount of stuff Warner does (as far as promotions) for Green Day. It's like they're already using the infrastructure enabled by a major label.

Andres nails it.

Keep GD in Warner, promote more indie bands in Adeline.

Fat Wreck was started by Fat Mike of NOFX

Tim Armstrong got the same accusitions when he started up Hellcat Records. When in actuality, Hellcat is a vanity label and he doesn't make any money off of it. His income is all from Rancid, Operation Ivy, etc.

Therefor, I think Billie Joe and Green Day could pull that off.
